Thats not entirely true. The last name reclaim rules were you can get a name if they hadnt logged in for 2 years. So if that person with a name you like happened to log in a year before, he would keep his name.

Now if they return with Name Reclaim with same 2 year rule, then you can have that name because it will have been 2 years since he last logged in.
Actually i cant confirm they logged in specifically for that since they also went legendary. I just believe it is the reason because of the timing.

Either way i dont see anything unfair about it since theyve played the game for years and spent alotta money on it. People deserve a break or two.

Well if someone else has the name I would say it belongs to them. If they have had the name for the last 2 years, survived the last name reclaim, then chance are it is an alt or a mule and another name reclaim won't help. I don't see the harm in doing one though. If someone has quit the names should be purged and made available to new and existing players. Should be made into an annual thing sort of like spring cleaning.

How do you know that a level 8 character is an alt of someones who is legendary, and who has given money to the game? The answer is you dont.

Having another name reclaim would clearly change reality if this guy isnt an alt, which i most likely think it isnt. I added the name to my friends list after last name reclaim and have never seen the name log in not even once. NOT EVEN ONCE in the last year.

Yes, but effectively what you're wanting is a constant name reclaim 'ad infinitum', why? Because you didn't get the one you wanted because that person was more recently active?

It hasn't even been that long since the last reclaim. We don't need to start doing a "purge event" in what is intended to be a long running MMO.

I appreciate your viewpoint, I just don't agree with it ;)

That actually doesn't mean anything. I'm legendary and I have character names reserved on toons that I've "never logged in to" or if I do it's very rarely to get anniversary items and so forth.

It is quite possible for them to log in when you're not in game, you do sleep right?

Names don't automatically become available after they haven't logged on with them in the allotted time given by the name reclaim update? Hmmm I thought they would have made this automatic and ongoing. They should. Seems like the coding would be relatively easy.

Its been exactly a year since last name reclaim. With a server merge theres more names available now from players who havent played in 2 years, so yes i disagree.
  9. Pr0tojay Committed Player

Ok, but the point is you logged into those names a few times, most likely more than what youre making it out to be. My playing time is sporadic, no certain schedule but i do play often, mostly when surival mode is out. I would have seen him log in at least once over the last year, no question about it.

the name reclaim was done across all servers and then the name databases were actually merged with single databases for EU and US.

The merge has nothing to do with the relevance of whether we take names of people again.

Are you saying that during the first name reclaim a PS player couldve taken a PC player's name?
  12. Nightcrawler Legionnaire

Yes. Anyone on either platform, depending on region, could have claimed a name since last year - even before we went to Crossplay.
  13. Proxystar #Perception

Prior to the name reclaim a player could make a name on any server independently of the others.

So you could have "Pr0tojay" on 4 different servers, potentially all different people.

When the name reclaim happened, people retained the names they already had, but the database merged, so if there was say only 1 "Pr0tojay" on US PS, someone on US PC would no longer have been able to make the name "Pr0tojay".

If there were 2 people with "Pr0tojay", one on US PC and one on US PS with the merge, one would have kept the name and the other would have lost it.

Oh no trust me i'm not lying. I have characters that I use solely for retaining names that I log in to once a year if lucky, I certainly do not log on to them unless I'm using them as a "bank mule" but I still want the names to use in the future.

If dc was a offline game they wouldn't have this problem.

They could have let us have 4 toon,
    2 hero 2 villains 2 male 2 females 1 for each side.

    Use the armory as alt's

half the time DC is an offline game.

What scenario sounds more likely in this case...
A guy who has logged into an alt only 1 or 2 times in last year just to babysit a name (a name that hardly anyone would care for) like you OR
A guy who stopped playing the game over a year ago?

With the population going down over last couple years its highly likely its the second scenario. The guy doesnt even respond to a message i sent him. I even added that name a month before the name reclaim went active to see if he were to sign online in case he wanted to keep his name. Still never saw him online lol.

Even besides that, the DC population has dropped steadily over last couple years, which means there more names available out there from people who no longer play. I dont see the harm in putting out another name reclaim. IF you sign on, you can keep your name. How will it effect you? smh i dont get the complaints

That promotes confusion, I once encountered some with similar name to mine (signature) except he had a capital i instead of lowercase l. Was not fun I can guarantee you that.
  18. Proxystar #Perception

Because some of those people that lost their names have already come back wondering. neither of your scenario is any more or less likely.

Both are potentially just as likely.

Those people got the names first, you have to be very careful when you go about just "changing things" without someones knowledge.

One name reclaim was reasonable, adding more just because people didn't get the name, because its more active than they realised is not a reason.

You have zero knowledge of how active or inactive that player is. And to chuck another hypothetical out there, what if he's seriously ill and taking a break, something like cancer, and then comes back 2 years later to find his name gone.

I know that's extreme but I say to show the level of uncertainty in your assumption making.

No one really wins in any scenario. I'm in favor of favoring current accounts over dormant. If that includes players who have secured a name first intending for later use then so be it. First come, first served in that case.

I'm in the same spot. A name I would like to use has been taken and the toon using it has been inactive for some time. Doesn't bother me so much as if i were to suddenly gain use of the name it would also be for a way down on the list backburner alt. I could understand someone losing the name out for their main to someones backburner alt.

Cases like that i would suggest just rolling up your sleeves and coming up with a good original name for you to use.
  20. Rockhound665 Steadfast Player

I only had an issue with one name on PC and that was my villain Raging N00b. That's because on PS I have a her named Raging N00b so I'm conflicting with myself.
