I am happy you are making peace with running as a DPS for now. Keyword for now You gotta take the positives away from the negatives! Even though your playing DPS for this one alert, I know you have zero issues finding a spot for raids More so look it at this way you're an established battle healer now and when the raids come out (possibly) you could be an established Sorcery Player. There is always room for improvement in both of your roles!! The coolest question I constantly hear is, "Flight, do you wanna Tank or DPS?" Best of luck!
Man, the forums as we know it can seem like a very negative non-resourceful place at times. Figured we can keep the peace and figure this all out as a group You're very welcome!
Actually, you couldn't. I don't force people to play how I want. I have a great league on both the hero and villain side and we run the content how we please. If every single role was required for alerts, the 1-1-1-1 you do realize people would be doing less and less alerts as they wouldn't be able to find the right roles? Or, they'd q as their designated role and just switch to dps? No one should be forced to play a role they don't want to. Which is what I've been saying all along. In all my posts I've said there is no right way to run the alerts. You decide how you want to run it. So no, that last line wouldn't work on me. I don't mind how anyone runs the alert. The end goal is to get gear. If you're doing that, why does it matter how you got there? Now that the trend is people aren't running with healers, everything about the way alerts are run should change? No thank you. If that's the case and the devs face to these threads I will be making my exit. The devs had plenty of people stating the alert could be run with out certain roles. They knew that you could skip adds. They pushed this to the live servers knowing that. Bottom line, you nor anyone else will tell me how to play this game. I play for fun, and I play how I want. You do the same. If it's running the "normal" set ups so be it. But don't sit here and try to force that upon people that don't want to play that way.
I never look to run as dps, it's just an option if I can't do it any other way. In league runs it's a non issue, everyone knows if I dps I'll do less damage than a proto-repair bot. On my villain I pug everything, so it's more of an issue there.
Thing is every MMO is about DPS. You stack as much as you can of that and have just as much as you need of the other elements. It's how to do things the fastest. Healing, only so much damage will be done, so only so much healing can be done, it's a finite amount, the way to encourage 2 healers is to spread the damage so that group heals have to be used, and consistent/unavoidable damage so that the healer(s) has to heal often using more power and encouraging it being spread between 2 instead of one guy draining is bar constantly. Tanking, the bosses only hit so hard, if you can live, and you can keep agro while doing so... there's no need to split up the work. To encourage 2 tanks they need to have it so trying to tank 2 at a time gets you killed, or ruins something about the raid (think shield guardians, or some other mechanic like that). Controllers, healing debuff is really the only thing ever making a huge impact as far as debuffs go, and one troller can do that. Other than that it's just power concerns, which is highly dependant on your group but you only have to handle whatever your power usage is, not quite as static of a number but it'll either need 1,2 or 3 trollers depending, and you'll know that when you're forming the group. To encourage 2 trollers, the easiest way is to keep power usage somewhat high so that we want 2 so they can easily cover it but 1 would be stressed to do so. DPS, your constraint is only how much HP the boss has. But, it's not as if you're knocking them out in one hit. So the concern is more damage over the time it takes, more damage means less time till that HP runs out. So stacking DPS has no limit until you're one shotting things... which just isn't going to happen to any raid boss in the game. This is why just natureally with the entire design of every MMO DPS will always be sought after and pushing in wherever you can fit it. I think people need to get over this aversion to DPS. It's not going away. When things are easy enough people will prefer to do them quicker rather than easier. It's just what I've always seen over the last 16 years. There's a limit, I don't always wnat things hard on myself, sometimes taking easier is good, but everyone's level will be different. That's why every tier in the raids we see the top leagues going to the more DPS heavy stuff sooner because we'll have mastered the content sooner, as in general the top leagues are only top because we play too much . As more people become proficient in the content more people adopt the DPS thing. And each time we see lots of groups try to start before they're ready and fail miserably. Those groups should stick with the more stable, more defensive options.
It really just boils down to this: Join a league. Or something similar. FInd a group of people that like to play the same way that you do, that find your playstyle valuable to the type of experience they are trying to create, and vice versa. I've come to realize that the DCUO community is more or less a social experiment, a decent sample size of people from all different walks of life, who have a wealth of experiences that differ from each other in every conceivable way, and as a result, no two people in this game will ever think exactly alike. Oh, and all of these people are, for the most part, complete strangers. It'll never be exactly what you want it to be, because you are merely one of a great, vast many people. Because of this, all you or I could ever hope to do is carve out our own little slice with a few other people's help. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS IS NOT OUR GAME. We simply participate in it, and by some great social miracle, there is one thing that every single one of us have in common, that we find some aspect(s) of this game enjoyable. Hang on to that. Cherish it, love it, enjoy it. Just don't expect the world outside your computer screen to do the same.
