Just how "free to play" is DCUO?

i might try the WoW thingee. Didn't find Final Fantasy to my liking and Neverwinter blows.

you can attach the word "free" to anything and you're guaranteed extra turnout. this is particularly effective in venues where you want to fill out a crowd so if you ever find yourself trying to promote your band or your book or your party just put "free refreshments" somewhere on your flyer!

Ohh I know. It's kind of why I am not a fan of Free;) games. When DCUO first went Free to Play is when I started playing. The majority of the game was free then...... not so much now. I subbed because I was tired of paying for everything ( being nickel & dimed ) on the other FREE;) games I was playing. The big difference is in those game I did not have to pay if I did not want to. I could do everything free but it took forever. I had many friends that were free status on those games too. Some were free because they could not afford it some were free because they were cheap. Me personally, I paid in those games because I did not have 24/7 to do everything to keep up with the Jones that had been there for years. After dropping thousands I said screw this and found DCUO. :)

That is one thing I will never do again. The free to play route sucks for me but others like it and I don't have issues with them if they do.
My biggest issue with DCUO's so called free model is that it starts of as a lie and continues from there unless you just sub up.

DCUO would bring in more players advertising as a free game if they would just be honest with it's potential customers.

“Sorry, you’ve reached the players lounge. Let me transfer you to marketing...”

    **hangs up phone**

For both of the games...the important stuff and details is behind those links that 99% of people IGNORE. You know, like everything else in modern society. Sorry, gotta go hula-hoop 50 times...turned out that was in the ToS for my cellphone...smh :p :)

If anyone’s played WoW, how much gameplay time is level 20?

Well, it's good the company has a financial expert who knows exactly how to explain away everything that doesn't fit their little agenda, lol.

'Players aren't there because it's boring...but they will miraculously come if it's free...except it's already free...but they don't want to be in that part because it's boring...but they can play event content for free...but they're not there either because it's boring...and they don't like to be lied to...because I can read the minds of all...and during open episodes they weren't there either because...well, the latest episode wasn't included...but now it is...but they're not there anymore because they're protesting...and one day, I promise, they will pay for something and make this game great again!'

LOL, IKR... it's the small things like this than can make a huge difference.

How does it start off as a lie? Because it doesn't fit your personal definition (which the majority of f2p MMO's don't)? Because players are provided the entire base game for free? Because they have more than enough space and items to experience the game in all its glory until tier 4?

Oh, wait. You mean that paying players shouldn't receieve any perks because then its unfair and a lie?

    Lol.

Also, if you love the other models so extraordinarily much, then why are you not there, totally immersed in those games 24/7?

I highly doubt anyone expects the entire game to be completely free when they install it. And if they do, then they're deluding themselves, lol. There's a little thing called the internet where you can find the answer to all of these questions immediately.

F2p is always a tradeoff. Pure microtransactions quickly delve into p2w where players who spend money can instantly be far more powerful with real gear and exclusive stat bonuses. That's not a game I would ever want to be part of (and is directly the reason I quit both Skyforge and Aion, both of which had all content unlocked for all players). Money should not equal stats, ever.

Dude, you kill me....... because sometimes you couldn't put 2+2 together of you tried. Then other days you're all there.

I get it. You're in troll mode.

Thanks for blindly arguing just to argue.

The good thing is your ability to make up facts out of thin air is consistent day after day.

Progeekzy, to me after leveling a few toons and of course playing on my main for years I feel like its Free To Play up to level 30 (of leveling your toon) at that point you, or any player, needs to decide if they are going to pay the $15 per month / $30 per three months / $55 per 6 months. You already experienced one half of the worse case scenario. The other half would be running into the CR ceiling. You can get up to T3 (~70 CR) or T4 (~84 CR) but that would be it. And you wouldn't have access to the good base lairs either.

I don't make up facts. I speak from experience. One day when you get all growed up you might understand.

Referencing the feelings of all people who play, or don't play, and their motives, as well as using statistics like "95% percent of the game's players," without any financial data or evidence, is making up facts. It's called yellow journalism. It's another thing to say, "I think that this is what's happening..." or "my opinion of this is..."

So, yes, you do make up facts. And then, the funny thing is you use them as the basis for outrageous accusations against the devs or "expert" advice as to how they should run their game, lol.

Actually, players can now use the event content gear to continue leveling all the way to endgame. If they then decide to purchase the latest episode or sub, they can also run the enhanced end game versions with additional mechanics and higher loot drops. In the meantime, they get base items and style items (including style unlocking if they want to spend a little cash on replay badges) that everyone else gets. In other words, they don't have to spend a cent until they get to endgame. And that's only if they actually care about playing endgame episodes competetively. Otherwise they can keep running event content indefinitely.

I bought the PS3 Arkham Asylum game, and got around 2 weeks of play out of that (I'm not a completist, so post-main-game I got as many trophies as I could be bothered to).

I got DCUO for free, and got 6 month's *immensely more enjoyable* play out of it.

    You do the maths.

DCUO is free to play for all the core game. You don't get all the powers, you don't get all the content, but you get more than you paid for.

If you stop considering the F2P version as an open-ended game, but something to beat - to get to the end of... then it suddenly all makes sense.

Here's the thing (again)... the game is free to play. Take a look at the original story line - save the earth, defeat Brainiac - that can be done without spending a cent. All of the things that cost money were extras, outside of that story line, that were added later. Including convenience items, like extra inventory slots

Sure, Legendary members have access to much of that cool stuff. Because they paid for it. Premiums too, to whatever extent they want to get it. THEY PAID FOR IT. If you can't (or won't) pay, then you still play the game... just without the extras.

Haven't seen a comparable MMO where you could play DLCs for free, though. As it stands: Non-DLC(Episode) content is free.

Sorry your late to the game. From September 2016 thru the following spring, the entire game was free. As my son found out. Unless you plan on going to end game with the big boys, it kills your experience. Sure he got a lot of good gear and raised his CR. The downside, after all the freebies were removed. He could only run lower tier content. He was so much higher, so it became boring. Even the free preview hurts you.

Look at this game like this. Are you here to play dress up and role play? Stay FTP.

Are you here to be competitive and want to play at end game. Buy a sub.

You can choose to buy DLCs only, but as you've found out. Bank and inventory space is limited.

If free to play is only supposed to be a glorified trial version of the game then they need to advertise that. Otherwise its false advertising.
