@youranonnews tweeted earlier that they dumped a massive list of passwords/credit card numbers from various subscrition based companies like psn,xbl amazon, brazzers and walmart among others. the ddos attack did allow hackers to infiltrate our accounts once again.

“There’s plenty of people saying we’re not hackers and DDoS isn’t hacking. For attacks of this scale, you can’t really do them without either having access to insane amounts of funding or being able to gain access to the computers via hacking,” Cleary said. “You can’t just do DDoS attacks from your home computer. It doesn’t work.”

What made Lizard Squad so successful? Without specifying how exactly, Cleary claimed that the group has direct access to the infrastructure of these networks, putting little between the hacks and their targets. “We’ve just got a bunch of people with really particular skill sets, and we’ve been working to get access to some of the core routing equipment of the Internet,” Cleary explained, excitement in his voice. “We’ve got some devices that are connected to the undersea cables that facilitate the Internet connects between the United States and Europe. We have access to some of the devices that are in the middle of the ocean that have something like 100-gigabit-per-second Internet connections. Not even the Russian government is doing attacks our size—they were only managing 100 gigabits per second against some Estonian websites.”

Not even a bot net of computers is capable of this kind of attack. It's not done like that most of the time anymore.

Not buying any of it. It smells way too much of attention seekers.

Absolutely in the sense that I only believe about 1% of anything Lizard Squad says firsthand. It's conventional wisdom to assume they're not as powerful as they want you to believe they are. You're getting caught up in the drama of the unfolding news because it's exciting. Just wait.

Lizard Squad has been spinning up a lot of virtual machines inside of places like Amazon's EC2 service to start the traffic amplification. They've cut down on the step of having to create a large zombie army first.

I most certainly believe that. I also imagine it's a decent number of people each independently contributing their portion to the attack with their own resources with membership running from botnet script-kiddies to some well-funded individuals with real infrastructure. I imagine the attack was coordinated and scheduled at a certain time for a certain duration and that there were variations on when each got their part running. I assume there's no real "off switch" for the whole thing. An unscheduled cessation would likely require as much coordination as the initial attack.
