There are already threads about your question. Also your question is specifically about PSN. Yes they are currently having issues. Go on their Twitter or their PSN website to keep yourself updated on what's going on.
They are a victim of a denial of service attack. That's different than being infiltrated as in having someone breach into their network and steal information. Saying it was hacked would be a misleading statement. It's okay to say, but it's worth knowing the difference.
I did some reading on it and a successful DDoS attack isn't as easy as just some joe blow downloading a program on their computer. You have to have a direct connection to their servers, which are secure for an actual DDoS attack to be successful at any rate. Hacking is involved to gain a direct connection between the user and the servers.
It's more likely a DNS Amplification Attack that is being launched from a botnet. The hacker themselves control an army of compromised computers from people clicking links in email spam, visiting malicious websites, and installing fake video game crackers. The botnet army then sends requests to DNS servers for a large amount of information. The request packets have their IPs spoofed pretending to be PSN servers. The DNS servers send their large responses to the PSN servers because that's who they think requested them. This huge flood of traffic overloads the PSN networking appliances. In no part of this attack does the hacker's computer or his botnet actually directly connect to PSN servers. The computers in the botnet were hacked. The DNS servers were exploited and duped. The PSN servers were just overloaded...not hacked.
Not today. Lizard Squad said they will never hack XBL or PSN again. They got what they wanted from a 3rd party. Greedy Lizard Squad hackers...What they should have gotten is jail time, interupting commerce, like they have, is a federal offense and they should be taken care of through the legal system. Not someone giving them what they want for free. I mean come one, they break the law they get someting, if I did it I know I would be behind bars. What happened here is annoying not only because of lost gaming time, but also because the group responsible get off free and get something for nothing....This is wrong...
Never believe a word Lizard Squad says. It's all for dramatic posturing. I assume the attack is still commencing but PSN is starting to get some traffic filtration in place in segments and that's not pervasive. Lizard Squad did this because they find it funny. They will do it again if they can because they'll not stop finding it funny. They're trolls. They enjoy getting people's hopes up. They most likely didn't get any money and are just acting like they did. That way, once the attack has been fully filtered, they can just claim that they shut it off themselves. They know companies like Microsoft and Sony won't release details about the event. So, Lizard Squad just says whatever makes them look the most in control.
Mega[KimDoTCom] had to grant them premium accounts to his website. The attack supposedly slowed down after that.
Oh Sore you made two mistakes demonstrating technical competence and common sense. You were so good until then.
I hope that he setups tracking on them to their homes and provides it to law enforcement.....You know, justice.
Would be hilarious knowing Kim's track record. Some guy already released all their personal information, from addresses to relatives to even passwords.
I was just told via a mod that they can not confirm or deny if they've been hacked or if information was stolen. Not sure why someone would say that if was only a DDoS attack! You'd think they would know by now one way or the other! I WILL NOT RELEASE THE MODS NAME, SO DON'T BOTHER, IA ARMY
Imagine what oen could do for 4 days if he or she had email address to these invididuals. I hope these individuals are not looking for a transexual gender partner or enjoy crazy erotic fantasies that most would vomit over if the acts were performed on them...That is how I would deliver justice if I behaved in juvinille manner like the lizard squard, but I don't. I will let the legal system take care of them.
I know 2 of my friends lost $25 over the XBox network this week. They got giftcards and lost the funds within minutes, not sure if the hacker actually took it or if it was lost due to all the server issues, either way, bad move adding funds when the servers are behaving all crazy...I usually wait until the new year before I go ahead and add funds...
