Is changing the colors of our powers technically impossible?

Always wondered why changing the color scheme of our powers isn't a thing, we can do. Is it due to technical restraints?

I doubt you'd be allowed to have yellow rage powers or orange willpower/fear constructs.

Technically it should be super easy.

I'd guess DC is to blame for why we can't, but it could just be that Daybreak don't trust us! :p

Actually, it would be cool for Ice power. Can you imagine ice powers as red? (or worse, yellow :p )

If there's gonna be issues with the Lantern powers, then we can keep them as is. Will there be issues with changing Ice/Fire/Mental/Nature/Gadgets/Sorcery/Celestial/Quantum colors? Most of these powers are generic enough

Well, the other powers imply a color scheme. You want red ice?

Hell yeah! Black, red, yellow, purple, green. It'll be great

    I dream of the day...
    For all my healers...

It'd just hit me that if we get water powers I COULD make the water yellow. Immature I know, but I don't care!

Or red and start blood bending the blood of my enemies, and ****.

I'd love to change the colors of my powers. The possibilities! >_<

The only real reason I can come up with is, the visuals team want you to see the powers as they designed them. Progamatically.. as easy as you changing your text color in the forum.

I think it was mentioned about the differentiating between powersets. It could also do to the lack of memory to add that kind of customization.

In the end, I want green fire. I don't mind having a permanent color for light characters, let me change colors of powers! LOL

But that would bring about complaints (some of them legitimate) about unequal treatment among the powers in that regard. Limiting the options of one power set, even if it's just in terms of appearance, when all the other power sets get full options is something that's never gone over well in my MMO experiences.
  12. BumblingB I got better.

The thing is the lore they put for the Light powersets is vastly different from all the exobyte infused ones. One is an external ring that causes you to gain a power, the other is a copied power that is infused into you.

Take fire for instance, there is quite a few fire characters from DC Lore that all utilize different colored flames. Especially the one I bet it came from, Fire, who has a green colored flame. (Originally, her name was Green Flame when she was with the Global Guardians. Also Green Fury.)

Would I want a White Lantern? Sure, but I would prefer the actual powerset. Do I want to change a fear lantern into an avarice one? No, the constructs are fundamentally different. So the difference between the Light powers is to set in, to allow the change.

If they renamed Light to Will/Fear and introduced an all Light power w/o the ring, I would be all over it in a heart beat.

See, my experiences in SWG are my basis for comparison, and if you take one power set/profession and give it limitations that others don't have, there will be non-stop complaints about it, regardless of lore and especially if the power/profession happens to be a popular one. It happened all the time with Jedi in that game (armor use, even in the appearance tab, was a huge point of contention), and limiting Lantern-based powers (which enjoy a similar level of popularity) would most likely have the same effect.

Even cosmetic options should be "all or nothing" in my opinion, if for no other reason than to prevent a lot of unnecessary and avoidable drama, especially when dealing with a player base that has shown a tendency to get their noses bent out of shape for little to no reason. :D

Fire burns with different colors depending by the combustible used. The same goes for any kind of explosion (fireworks mastered this principle).
Ice color is regarding the material that gets frozen. (yellow ice? eeeeeeew!)
Earth is minerals and minerals come in a great variety of colors.
Nature has many colors beyond green.
Other powersets have no identifiable color (quantum, mental, celestial...). The current ones are just chosen from archetypes.
Only lanterns are strictly related to the color of their rings.

I would love blue fire and black quantum effects.

See, that is why we can't have nice things. It's easier to just say no one gets it. lol

Personally, it pains me to think that eventhough, as you say, the lantern lore is so popular, that they would want to break lore to make a non spectrum based colored lantern. Razzmatazz lantern anyone? lol

I think the Fire power-set should be the only one to be able to change colors...and maybe hard-light.

Yellow ice? Pfft. I want yellow water :D

But really, I would love to see the different colors that could be applied to Mental, Fire, Quantum, Electricity, and Ice.
  19. Ghaladh Dedicated Player

You don't know anything about lanterns, I take it :-D. The colors of their construct is strictly related to the emotional spectrum. To a specific emotion is assigned a specific color. Those can't change because it's the unique source of their powers that defines the color itself. If you draw from Willpower (which is not an emotion, though :p), your constructs will be green, yellow is for Fear, red is for Rage, violet is for Love, orange is for Greed, blue is for Hope, indigo is for Compassion, black is for Death and white is for Life. That's all you got and can't change.

I recall the one time a Dev responded to this idea. They mentioned that people would get confused in PvP. Something about knowing what powers/moves the opponent is using.

So yeah, again, lets appease the 20% or less of the population

I can't tell you how much of a difference it would make, for me, to be able to colorize my powers! And, I agree Lanterns should remain the colors they are. I guarantee there would be far more people complaining AGAINST being able to change those colors.

This would be such an amazing addition to customization. Almost like adding a whole bunch of new powers :D
