No, no, and no. Turn off the chats you don't want to see. Most of the behavior your talking about only exists in say or shout. Turn both channels off and it's a different world.
Heh for most leftist anything you say is racism even if you talking about facts stil racism so no thx but anyway most active players in this game on chat are gold digers .
Well, every time I log in, I see the "TEEN" logo, indicating to me that this is a general Teen and older game. Unfortunatly, when I read some of the chat is ****, or hate. Its not up to me do block the *********, its up to DCUO to keep its "TEEN" rating.
The game is rated "Teen", and that same screen you're talking about even states the online interactions are not rated. DCUO have very limited control over what people post in chat, or say over the voice channels. So, YES, it is up to you to use the tools that DCUO provided to limit the chat you don't want to see or hear.
What i do is create a chat tab that doesnt have shout chat in it. The vast majority of vulgarity happens is shout chat. Problem solved
Don't forget the Trade channel... That was so bad I changed setting so I didn't see anything typed there years ago.. MAYBE it has changed but I got tired of the constant name calling and running arguments filling my chat window while I was on raids and alert where i might need to see some thing in group chat that would prepare me for what was coming up ahead. Hopefully that has changed but I have no desire to switch it back on to find out. Seriously there is less insulting and bad mouthing etc in the "Versus" chat and that one is designed to allow heroes and villains set up PvP battles. LOL
Not the answer you're looking for, but I just people on /ignore when I see posts I consider intended just to troll.
A lot of you are of the opinion that individually ignoring, turning off chat, creating custom tabs is the way to go. (And that’s you’re very entitled opinions) I’m just looking opinions. I think what I’m trying to get at is - if there was in-game moderation, most of the prolonged stuff would stop before it even got started. i.e - two ppl start, fair enough! Goes on for a bit - others join in to help a friend or league mate etc. 3 hours later - it’s still banging on. But with in-game moderation, once it got out of hand (it was seen to be getting there) a quick word with the folks to stop is all that’s needed. Or a message to let ppl know that the convo is being monitored. Btw - I never mentioned about giving the players banning powers. Suspension powers for persistent offenders maybe. But having to show just cause as to why they did. And giving the player (like on here) the option to appeal. Also - someone mentioned manpower to do this (fair point) but we know there are ppl who play this from morning to shutdown. Finding a few ppl to monitor areas would not be hard. It would clean up the mouthing, the racism, homophobia, general insults as someone stated, for simply asking a genuine question. Players shouldn’t have to goto all the effort of creating tabs, ignoring half the server (they do that with bots) or turning chat off. Game or not, we have rules within society that don’t give us the freedom to spew out hatered and homophobia. Half the stuff said in chat on this game would land the ppl saying it in court. Most of you agree it needs moderating I think. But want to see DBG do it. They don’t have the resources or willingness to. If they won’t... why shouldn’t the people playing?
Even without the toxic nonsense in chat, I’d still have tabs for specific purposes, like group and league chat just so I don’t miss anything relevant to what I’m currently doing
I agree in game moderation is desperately needed, but I don't know about player mods. I mentioned the problem with the game's toxicity levels in a recent thread of my own: https://forums.daybreakgames.com/dc...ropriateness-on-consoles.294269/#post-4088618 It beggars belief that a professional MMO game developer is allowing toxicity in their game and seemingly doing nothing about it. Not a single dev post regarding the toxicity problem or what they're doing to combat it. It's a disgusting state of affairs. The devs should never have allowed the inmates to run the asylum like this.
I do not know the rules by heart but, I do know what blacklisting is lol - Short version : Blacklisting, in the context of these forums, is specifically naming people as having done something wrong, proof or no proof - that is what is not allowed on the forums. Stating an opinion that you want Moderators in chat is not blacklisting - but, as an extreme example, if you were to show people saying racist things in chat as a screenshot, to support your post, with their names out for all to see, then that is considered blacklisting.
I think it does.. in fact the new thing they added a couple of years back has worked imo - where a person you put on ignore will never be in an instance with you (I think except PVP where they can be on opposing team) If a person is toxic they get put on ignore - if enough put them on ignore then they have a smaller pool of people to queue up with. This affects their game Having fellow players deciding punishments is going to create more issues than solve.. e.g. favouritism or bias, attitudes/opinions of people will change based on personal values (e.g. i may be wildly offended by a phrase or word, while others will not care and will ignore guidelines)
Why not just ignore these players and report them if they really tickles your bones? Ignoring them is the easy part but reporting them helps solve the bigger picture.
I've skimmed through this and agree with almost everything. Not opposed to in game player moderators, turning off chat features and ignoring it because, well, it's the internet....which leads me to... Ladies and gentlemen, mankind has reached a new social.media epidemic of irrational proportion. It will NOT change. The psychology behind it is so vast, so complicated, so profound, that the largest companies in the world are monetizing it as we speak. A gaming example? OVERWATCH They have automated all of their moderation to a point that players provide proof on a daily basis that they are not violating the TOS and getting banned, even top 500 players. Moral of the story? They cannot fix toxicity, so developers are capitalizing on it. Can't blame them really. The onslaught is too much. In order to eradicate it, you risk expending resources to the point of bankruptcy. It's OUR fault, and by that, I don't mean you or I per say, but gamers. It's gamers who cannot find value outside of entitlements that have bred this behavior. It's here to stay people, and only WE can change it.
It should be daybreak employed moderators. Moderators are really needed in dcuo. Anyone who has been in the WT or reads Trade chat would understand. Everything can not be all on mepps for he is online 1 man lol. The community needs DB moderators ASAP LOL. I want to see this game become great again, and the community is just one of the things to improve on when it comes to the scammers, hackers, and cyberbullying. Other things it needs, well that's for another thread lol.
Mepps should try logging sometimes, there are usually unsavory remarks directed his way when he does. It would be so easy for him to see.
I'm okay with in-game helpers/support. What I don't need is big-brother monitoring every chat channel in order to drop the mute or ban-hammer down. People can be d-bags in chat & technically not violate the TOS. You may not like what they have to say, and it may be toxic, but it's not a violation. As mentioned by myself and others, there are in-game tools to help manage one's exposure to unwanted speech. Use them. Toxic people aren't a problem if they have no audience. (D-bags can't bother anyone if we all put then on ignore & go enjoy the game)
