Because whatever it hits, it destroys. I'm not exaggerating either. And the range is outstanding. I'm shooting at a Razor and not only does it kill him it kills the Razor and Soldier behind him. I would have expected the shotgun to be a little more powerful than it is but this gun makes up for that in spades.
Munitions. Railgun is on the 2nd tier of the Guts tree. So far it's the most powerful of the tree(non-SC).
Don't think i've seen anything in this game tear through razors, wags, and lantern hordes like some of the items in this set.
I like to open fire at long range with 50cal as it is technically a sniper rifle, then rush them while spraying the area with chaingun and minigun. MOAR DAKKA. ^^
After playing around with the majority in the guts tree and now finally going into glory to try some powers, railgun seems a bit excessive in damage. It tears through things like butter. For a lower tier power, it hits pretty darn hard. Something that the highest tier powers seem to lack, which brings me to... 50 cal could also use some boosting in damage. By the time my 50 cal hits a mob for 500 damage, my rail gun could of hit it two or three times for 400 each hit. Before I got railgun though, I was still out damaging everyone in any alert I went into and slaughtering everything so fast in solo quests that I would just run and shoot without stopping or worrying about my health from beginning to end. In fact, I would tag as many mobs in the vicinity that I could to try and make it interesting. (it didn't, I still killed them with ease just like Rambo) So, the damage as a whole seems pretty strong for this powerset, outside a couple of it's powers.
I thought this might have been a bit of an exaggeration but after trying it myself I gotta agree. I've never had such an easy time plowing through early content. The damage is fantastic, the AoE is generous, and it doesn't even seem to cost a prohibitive amount of power. Plus I love the sound effects. Pew pew pew pew!
But it's a super charge and you can only use it twice as railguns you can use over and over as it's cooldown is quick.
