But what I'm trying to say is he DID have a good reason to leave. He wanted to. That right there is a good reason. I know we won't agree with this and I do apoligize for my implication in my previous post. But, to me, if someone doesn't want to run with the group that's good enough for me. Bid him a fond farewell and get someone else.

Couldn't they just making if you are in a group then you can't be pull into someone else instance. And if you are in an instance then you can't join another group. I don't really see the case were you would want either to happen.

I am also of the opinion if someone wants to leave for any reason I will vote yes to let them leave. If you don't want to be here fine I don't want you here. If you got to go for a good reason that's cool real life comes first.

I think that 's the point of the excuse option, because then you leave it completely up to the group whether or not you get to leave.

It adds an interesting social dynamic I think. Either you have someone like yourself, who would let most people go regardless of reason and move on with their life, or someone like Mag, who would need a decent enough reason to subject the group to hunting down another person to fill an empty spot, and potentially cause delays.

It is an option that emphasizes and embraces individual personalities.

Speaking for myself, it really is situational at best, depending on things like my impression of the person, the progress of the raid or alert, and above all else, whether I want to admit it or not, whatever mood I happen to be in at the time.

Then dissagreeing is what we will have to do.

Even if obviously you are wrong. ;) ;)

Sadly sometimes... getting someone else will take a lot longer then the 10 min deserter penalty.

So there are times when the offender will not wait as long as the rest of the group.

Heck there are a few times when as we reopened the instance and were looking for someone else... the same guy who left the instance will pop back in 10 minutes later.... only to leave once more. ;)

Once it did that multiple times.

It did make us laugh that one time..... even if we ended up waiting quite a bit until we were able to invite someone in. ;) ;)

The first thing I do when someone asks to be excused is I ask why. I'm pretty easy to get around. Half way through the alert and your league needs you for a raid? No problem. But the thing is most reasons to leave do come up part way through the content. They don't come up when you just spawned at the start.

I don't vote yes on people that won't communicate and people who want to leave for stupid reasons. Especially villain side USPC (but all over at times) it can sometimes take a while for a queue to pop. If I already had to wait an hour to get into the instance and you want to leave because - for example - you won't run without a specific role but didn't bother to switch to only grouping into balanced groups in your settings then I'd rather muster on with three of us while you sit there and afk. Chances are when the queues are that slow we'd wait more time than your deserter's for the next person to pop in anyway and if you have a burning desire to waste my time I reserve the right to waste yours.

Equally if I queue into an instance that refuses to even *try* because I'm not the role they were hoping to have randomly queue in, then I will happily sit on my **** and wait until they kick me rather than excuse myself. We try, we fail and they feel that I'm just not going to make enough of a difference then that's one thing, but if you're not even willing to try to run with the people you have then you should either be using pre-formed groups or toggle that nice little balanced groups option on.

At the end of the day, the deserter's penalty is intended to discourage people from running out on their groups for no good reason. The vote to excuse is because we all know that sometimes you have (what some people at least will consider to be) a legitimate reason to go and if they say yes, then that's great. If they don't then take the hit - if you queue up, be prepared to run the content with whatever group you get. If you''re not prepared to run with them then that's fine also, but there is supposed to be a consequence to that decision.

Incidentally, since this started with ninja inviting, I don't support that and I wish the invite system wasn't something that randomly took over your whole screen until you hit the right key. There has to be a better way to deal with invites and instances popping and all the rest of that than that awful popup, that way you could deal with it with less of a knee jerk response and take three seconds to see what that particular request actually was before you selected and accepted it without that meaning that you just got crushed by the mobs around you or flew into a tree...

I think Mister Majesty said it best just above. We have a different perspective of group dynamics. This doesn't make me wrong in this situation. Nor does it make you wrong. And at that note I wish you a good day. I actually learned something new today. That's always a good thing. :)

    ???

There already are option if you do not want to get ninja invited and pulled into random groups or instances.

few things worse in game than getting ninja invited into an instance while you're in another group. worse even if the group who ninja invited you is holding you hostage or thinks its funny that you have to leave and eat deserter status forcing the group you want to be in to have to wait.

we really should just have the option to excuse ourselves without having to waste any time at all. i left an anb group this morning. just got my allowance. going to reset a few times and spend the rest on feats for my baby alts. everything was going smooth as silk until we got to the last room and an argument broke out between the healer and a dps over of all things synthetic mods. the level of nasty to which the dps sank, the language, the snickering from his two or three friends over his comments...just made me not want to stay in the group to finish it. during the arguing and back and forth he made a comment over how he doesn't care what anyone says to him in the game all we are are voices over the screen to him. i agreed and said "now you're not" and left. won't help out players like that, won't waste my time. i can throw a stick out of my apartment window and hit a group that needs a troll. i shouldn't have to have a wait time penalty for leaving things like that.

That is not quite what I am talking about. I don't mind group invites or instance invite. I don't like getting pull into one while already in one. Because the game will think you are in two groups and cause issues.

    No way.

Someone has to be wrong. It has to be. ;)

If it's not me... it has to be you. ;)

Or we could agree that Majestic is wrong?? That would work for me. ;) ;)

    But seriously...
Majestic did a good job being the voice of wisdom.

If I que up for an alert or raid and someone wants to leave I vote no, because they shouldn't of que'd in the first place.

If someone gets invited to a group that already started and need to fill spots and want to leave I let them go because they probably got ninja'd by some dbag. I am still flabbergasted at the fact that this game allows for people to be invited into an instance when they are currently in a group. EVEN more idiotic is that you can be invited to an instance WHILE you are que'd with your current group.

It's quite possibly the dumbest thing in this game outside of the mic issues IMO.

But you DO have the option to ignore group invite AND instance invite.

Those options are already IN the game.

So why is it even an issue??

I have no problem with being wrong. That would put me in the minority in most cases. :p

Because I don't want to turn it on and off everyday when the league wants to invite me into groups or instances. Which happens everyday. It's a stupid option and shouldn't be allowed. It should say already in group when trying to invite to an instance like it does when you invite someone into group and they are already in a group. It''s just common sense that this option is just plain stupid.

The deserter penalty is there for a reason. Yeah, it sucks if you DC, but you know people would abuse the logout if they didn't get a penalty.

If you want to screw over another group because you got a better invite, don't call THEM petty.
If you got a ninja invite, /IGNORE that person, and he'll never invite you again.
If my League invites me to an instance while I'm in another, it bounces the invitation.
If a forming Raid invites me during an instance, they can see by my fluctuating green and blue bars that I'm in the middle of something and need time to finish or cooldown from deserter (if we don't walk-in), and they're often willing to wait since the group isn't full yet.
There's plenty to do while waiting: farming Marks in Gotham Wastelands (including walk-in Duos) or fighting the Iconic in Emotional Metropolis.

You have to wait for someone to join. You have to wait for someone to relog. You have to wait for someone to respec. How much different is it to wait for someone to finish or cooldown?
If you're random queueing solo, do your solo stuff while waiting on a deserter cooldown. You can run Challenges on cooldown. You can run My Three Sons on cooldown.

Like I said before in reply to another post, All these posts here are purely based off of your own personal opinions.

It's the whole reason the OPTION to excuse exists in the first place.

You will never see two different people respond exactly the same to a "So-and-So started a vote to be excused."

THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG DECISION HERE.

It is purely a way for you , the player, to exercise your own personal beliefs in whatever way you deem fit.

Freedom of choice, ladies and gentlemen. Different strokes for different folks. :)

People CAN leave when they want. Take your timeout and leave.

If you DON'T want to deal with unbalanced groups, [no ob] names, or failed groups, DON"T PuG! Run with your league or put your own group together. Don't fill up the PuG queue with you idiosyncrasies, try to bail at the beginning, and waste people's time. You should give the group the benefit of the doubt at least until the first wipe. If you're really that put out by the group configuration, 10 minutes (or whatever it is now) is not that big a deal.
