That's usually what an upgrade is, like between the PSOne and PS2

Don't hold your breath. The updates that will come won't be as amazing as most people think.

The PS2 (and PS3) can natively run PSOne games. First generation PS3s could also run PS2 games natively.

The post is directed ONLY toward PS3 players. Not at PC or Xbox One users.
    • The sentence "While there is still time to continue exploring DCUO on the PS3 ..." is directed ONLY toward PS3 users.
    • The sentence "All of your player information ... transfer to the Playstation 4 when you log in with the same PSN account" indicates that the message is directed ONLY toward PSN accounts.
    • The sentence "If you have not yet upgraded to the Playstation 4 ..." also indicates that it is ONLY directed toward PS3 users.
It provides the reason for dropping PS3 support within the context of Sony consoles.
It also lists how to maintain the SAME player and game information for PS3 users (by using the SAME account on a PS4).

There is NOTHING in the post that indicates that optimizations will not happen on other platforms.

Note that recently the XBox One version was optimized to allow the game to run at 60 FPS. Just like the PS4 version. The Xbox One version was previously locked at 30 FPS. So improvements for other platforms are being rolled out.

Optimizations and changes will impact all platforms. This is a message specifically for PS3/PSN players.

And not all upgrades allow for reverse gaming (or whatever the correct term is), you just try and play a game originally released with the Win95 and see how 'well' it plays (without tweaking the systems)

Allow, or not worth the money? Pretty sure it's been a trend for awhile now of porting old games over to console. Sure things will need to be tweeked, but if there s a market someone will do it.

Haven't check up in years, but there was that time when Sony wouldn't allow PS2 games to work on the PS3, unless you paid extra (or something)

No, it was only the first batch of PS3 consoles had the right chip to allow PS2 games to be played. The chip was removed in later models in order to bring the cost down because the PS3 had a monstrous price when it first came out. However, Black Prime OG is talking about porting games from an older console onto a new one, not allowing backwards compatibility. Two different things.

So, fairly much what said, just for different reasons (and was sure there was a hu-fuffle prior to PS3's release, or shortly after, where backwards compatibility was not possible, can vaguely remember the complaints about that, but didn't pay too much attention)

'Porting' a game from one system to another is basically making an old game compatible with a new(er), sometimes completely different, system (like taking an old 80's arcade game and being able to play it on a PS3), which is totally not the same thing as taking a PSOne disc and inserting it into a PS2 and playing it directly off the disc
