How to know if I already have weapon style when choosing from loot crate?

When having defeated a boss, the game gives loot for armor and weapons. With armor usually you can easily see if you have the style already since it's not inside a "box". However, in the case of the crates where you get to choose for your two different roles, you don't see the style indicator (have it yet or not) in a similar way.

This lead to me sometimes picking a weapon that I already had the style for.

Does this mean the only way to avoid this is that I have to manually go check from my style list if I have it while the timer is ticking, to make sure I don't pick the one with a style I already have?

I hope I explained this clearly enough... :)

There's no style preview/info with unopened gear sadly.

It's been a constant pet peeve of mine for as long as I can remember

Basically you answered your own question; yes, you do have to look in your style tab fast enough to see if you have that gear style or not. Annoying to be sure.

I think those content gear boxes do not "generate" the gear piece(s) until after you open them, not before.

I wish when you open weapon loot boxes it would be the same as opening the mission reward boxes you get when you are doing the campaign missions. The mission boxes show you the weapon styles for each weapon you have skill points in, whereas the regular weapon boxes don't. It is like opening a time capsule, you are hoping you get a style you don't have already.

I know some people might not have the extra sp, but I just spec one point into every weapon to collect all the styles lol

I leave 1 loose point in case I run into an 'open' weapon style box and I don't have it, besides, even if you have every weapon tree with 1 point, you won't know the style or if you have it till you pick the weapon item from the weapons box....then open it later. You still wouldn't know if you have the shield but not the 2 handed, or have the 2 handed but not the pistols.

Now....if you stack up 8 or 9 weapon boxes for the current ep, then pick one of each to make sure....I suppose that works.

We are exploring ways to improve this on the tech side. I say exploring, as in, determining how much work would be needed before committing one way or the other. It bothers all of us quite a bit.

If it gets done, it being the tech that tells us if we have the style or not already from the boxes, that’s a major qol change right there that we’d all appreciate.

Keep in mind, the solution for this on the armor gear side was to have every piece open automatically, so instead of being able to always use the piece that dropped you had a chance of getting gear for a role you weren't planning on playing. I've noticed quite often on my alts that I'll get higher pieces of support gear I don't need (these alts generally only do open world/event content).

So if you see someone blasting into endgame with mixed gear, that would likely be why.

100% agree. As the 320 gear drops fast and furious running event and EEG, I hardly pass up on an off role piece (on farmers) if it's +3 or more higher than what I'm wearing. It will likely be replaced in a few runs, days at worst, and I'll save the 320 daily grant pieces for when that toon is topping out anyway, so I can choose the right role to cap the leveling gear off, if I'm missing a piece or 2. About the only exception is, since they are un-opened, weapons. I won't generally open a leveling weapon till it's either A) the piece I need or B) I have 2 unopened ones on hand.

It would be cool if they figure out how to show the style of unopened boxes, we could go back to the leveling drops being unopened. It was much simpler to get the unopened box and then open it as needed to the right role. The only reason to have them dropped open was to show the style, which wouldn't be needed if they get it figured out.

indeed a major part of the game is skill points and not knowing what styles are dropping until you piece or google it online is pretty brutal.

I hope this fix would extend to all boxes-that-only-come-with-different-names-than-the-actual-style-contained.

Having to stop to frantically google for a key to which-box-name-means-which-style-name list in the 120 seconds available before you simply get the top box has always been extremely annoying, especially because it's practically impossible when the drop is in the middle of a raid/alert.

I don't know what y'all were thinking back in The Dawn Of Time when that design idea was invented.

But it's never too late to fix the mistake. Thanks heartily if this actually winds up addressed!

We can hope, I never did understand that at all.
