So, I think in order to fully analyze and assess the situation that would occur in said zombie outbreak, there needs to be some items identified. 1) what kind of zombie are we going with here? Is it the old school zombies like in the original Night of the Living Dead movies where there are slow and mindless, just kind of shuffling along? Is it more the Zombies from some of the current Dawn of the Dead movies where they are like decaying ninjas darting around and pulling off Batman level acrobatics? Or is it more Walking Dead style were they are trotting long and gain speed and focus over time as they chase you??

    2) What kind of New York? Populated? Un-populated? Are we alone? In a group? Did we wake up somewhere and the outbreak has occurred? Did we get notice from the Government or CDC???

It depends on the type of Zombie, fully functioning swarming 28 days later /WWZ type infected "zombies" could be a disaster for first responders like the police, fire departments and hospitals. And just like the Walking Deads shows us weekly, people especially panicked people, will be a problem as well.

In WWZ the main character Gerry Lane observes the infection taking hold in aprox. 12 secs.

More like walking dead Zombies and lets say New York city today. fully populated and outbreaks happens tomorrow.

Either quarantine or shoot on sight. The military is far too powerful to be taken down by mindless ******* things. The whole ******* premise is absurd; if it was a continental infection then it would be bad.

It would be a blood bath the fools would be on Twitter typing #PRAYNYC as the zombies eat their faces off.

    LMAO......I could see that happening.

If we're looking at Walking Dead then probably very dangerous, more because it is slow acting at showing up, in which case the infection will have spread across the world through air travel which may not be such a problem in smaller cities. On the plus side though, a Walking Dead-esque zombie horde will die out incredibly fast. Real world science would eliminate artistic license and they'd all be dead in a couple of months.

TLDR: Big city screwed, smaller towns will be safe, good luck rebuilding society. I already have my evil dictatorship plans laid out. *evil laugh*

Walking Dead zombies would be contained within a day or two, the numbers of people directly infected through bites would be kept low because people can easily avoid it. A virus transmitted through biting/scratching just isn't a very effective way to pass en mass, a few lucky head shots stops it. Even going by the TWD and assuming we are all already infected, the number of people simply dying from other reasons and coming back wouldn't be enough to overwhelm the living. The only thing I can think of is if a deadly disease or some other cataclysmic event happens at the same time.

The only reason Walking Dead happens in the comics and tv show is because of the one conceit the creator used, that Zombies and it's lore did not exist previously in that world.

Come to think of it, wasn't there a report that the military actually has a contingency plan for a Zombie outbreak. Well if the outbreak will occur, going to have start taking kendo classes because my husband has a collection of Japanese kitana swords he bought in Japan and it's best to be prepared

Katana, not kitana. ;) But anyway, if a zombie outbreak happened, and we're talking "infection by bite" (not an airborn virus), and if we're talking the slow, braindead zombies, I can see a few things happening:

    1. People want to rush their loved ones to the hospital as soon as they see something wrong. The outbreak just might stop right there. Sidenote: What annoys me the most about zombie-stories is they focus far too much on the monsters, and rarely ever acknowledge that these are actual people, and often your loved ones. Killing a zombie is one thing, but killing your husband in cold blood? That's a different matter entirely. Sure he's a zombie, but he's still your husband. How far would you go to find a cure? Wouldn't killing him be the last option possible?

    2. If the outbreak is allowed to continue, the city block will be shut down. Outbreak already stopped.

    3. If it's too late for even that, people will defend their homes with everything they got, and most likely win.

    4. In the absolute worst case scenario, the strong would survive and the weak die. Then the world would go on like nothing happened in a couple of months tops. Probably sooner.

    1. That's a theme frequently explored in the Walking Dead most notably first with Morgan, then later with the Governor, and even recently with Carl, Enid, Spencer, & Deanna. But the consensus of the show seems to be that killing the walkers is an act of mercy, because if that person was living they probably wouldn't want to be the cause of more death. It also became the theme in the remake of Night of the Living Dead directed by Tom Savini.

The whole movie is worth a watch but here's the ending scenes:

    Freaking Parkour Zombies... No.

Not only do you have to contend with simply running zombies, but Parkour Zombies as well? Nice nightmare scenario though (have had a few of those actually, not sure if any were zombies though, but definitely more than a few where, no matter where or how you run, you never can get away {although, have found that simply stopping and hiding works surprisingly well, maybe those zombies are a rhino breed: very poor eyesight and sense of smell and hearing, but can detect movement})
