But it's fun seeing how many excuses she can come up with to always get around the logic.

My apologies for not making it clear about white or black I said that they would be the coolest powers and it was quite some time ago that the devs talked about not having blue lanterns. I cannot recall how long ago it was that posted it but it was quite some time ago possibly soon after rages being released

White and Black lanterns are no-no. They are too OP to be in this game.

I believe that the best idea is to have "deputized" blue and star sapphire rings. I've red somewhere that the rings that go to the players are deputized rings with preloaded constructs, which means that they are - probably - inferior rings. That could justify 'similar' fighting styles and non-GL dependant blue rings.

I write scripts for comic books. One thing I have learned, there is nothing you can't do with just a little imagination. People give reasons why this can't be and that can't be; with just a little bit of imagination, anything can be. Your comment shows this spot on.

That's because I write scripts for movies. I can explain anything in game. See? We have something in common.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Sapphire_(comics)

First appearance of Carol Ferris as Star Sapphire was in 1962. First time a male wore a Star Sapphire ring was 2011 during the War of the Green Lanterns storyline. So while you are right that men have been Star Sapphires, that wasn't the case for 49 years. Male Star Sapphires have only been around for 5 years at best. They are a recent development, not nearly to the point of it being considered institutional.

There's also the point that while the game is based on the comics universe, it isn't THE comics universe. The game's universe essentially became a multiverse version the instant exobytes were introduced. So the devs aren't necessarily obligated to follow every story and major event word-for-word, panel-for-panel. That includes not touching on stories like War of the Green Lanterns, which paved the way for those male Star Sapphires that you do like to bring up. The devs, if they so desired and got the approval of DC, could simply say that in our little part of the multiverse, men can't be Star Sapphires and that the rings of that particular corps only choose women.

As much as it can frustrate me to repeat myself, DC's never really had a problem with how the devs have handled the Star Sapphires in the game. They haven't tried to make a federal case out of it or gotten their noses bent out of shape over it, and they are the ones who could stand to lose something or suffer in a tangible way over mishandling of the IP considering the DC universe is their livelihood. With that being the case, the repeated claims of "they violated lore so they need to change it" become pretty weak if the people actually in charge of the lore DON'T seem to have a problem with how it was handled.

Can't do it. I'm a stubborn little son of a gun myself. :D

Actually Geoff Johns statement does not go against my belief it only serves to show that Male Star Sapphires can be a part of the Corps.
  9. MariaTenebre Committed Player

During the first appearance of Carol Ferris as a Star Sapphire she was the only Star Sapphire and the Star Sapphires were not a Corps yet. Later on they were made into a Corps. It is true that the majority of Star Sapphires have been female. Just like by extension that the majority of Red Lanterns originally were pretty villainous even though they admit both heroes and villains however due to the introduction of heroic members of the Corps the Corps has a pretty strong heroic population. All though for instance in game the Corps is mostly villainous and there is literally only one heroic Red Lantern Guy Gardner in a sea of villains. However just because the fact that Red Lanterns are mostly villainous does not change the fact that heroes can join. By extension just because of the fact that most Star Sapphires are females does not change the fact that the Corps was never barred to men. Geoff Johns stated as much.

Also the devs are obligated or atleast should keep to the comic lore. It violates lore to say that the Star Sapphires are female only not to mention is very sexist as men can love just as well as women. It is about as ridiculous as when they made Amazon and Wonder Woman armor for men when there has never been a male Amazon or a Wonder Man.

As I have stated before DC has been mostly lenient with the devs violating lore on certain things and they shouldn't. The devs should make an attempt to keep to the comic lore otherwise it undermines the literary integrity and ties to the comics. The devs say that they are supposed to keep to the lore as well as they should but they violate it. Which is why to keep to the literary integrity of the comics they should keep to the lore. I am aware that the lore frequently changes but men have never been barred from being Star Sapphires and I blame the devs decision to make the armor female only due to heterosexist and sexist reasons. The devs should not be able to violate the lore the way that they do as the good point of this game supposedly was that they were supposed to keep to the lore of the comics something they have failed to do. Which is why the devs should correct the lore violations they have done especially the sexist and heterosexist decision of making the Star Sapphires female only.

I think regardless of the chosen color, a healer lantern is really needed!

I just found a brief withone one of my alt in wich superman say that the exobyte gave us their power but not their weakness
So the blue ring could work without a green one

The Lantern powers have nothing to do with Exobytes. Green, Yellow and Red ringbearers in the game all wear special rings that were given by their respective corps to aid in the fight against Brainiac.

    1. Then complain to DC. Berating the devs for a "mistake" made by DC is pretty much pointless. Aim your complaints at the right people and you might see some results.

    2. They have, and DC has most likely been right there making sure that they haven't violated lore. With the amount of control exhibited by DC to this point, it's foolish to think otherwise.

    3. You're right, it HAS to be those reasons. It couldn't be them keeping to lore that, for the better part of fifty years, only depicted a Star Sapphire as female.

    4. And yet DC allowed it. Guess they didn't have a problem with what the devs were doing.

    5. So even though they have bigger fish to fry when it comes to the game AND they've already gotten DC's approval over how they used the lore, they should change things.

    * You might want to be careful using those phrases and terms. It'd be very easy for someone to look at the repeated use of those terms and dismiss the entirety of your argument, saying to themselves, "Hmmm, well someone seems to have an agenda."

Actually I did write a letter complaining to DC about it so I indeed have done just that. However DC has depicted males wielding Star Sapphire powers so they are doing the right thing. The devs are not.

Actually in the lore it was never stated that the Star Sapphires are female only. Quite the contrary Geoff Johns stated that men could join just that most were not worthy although most people in general are not worthy to be a part of the Lantern Corps anyway as they only take exceptional people. The fact that males have wielded Violet Light like for instance Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, Superman Prime and John Stewart shows that the power is open to men. I always suspected that the devs made it female only because the Star Sapphire outfit is depicted as Violet and skimpy and they thought they did not want to alienate the people they consider to be the key demographic which is again heterosexist and sexist reasons. It is especially foolish as many people would indeed like to make male Star Sapphires including many male players.

DC allowed it but in some ways they basically give the devs free reign to do things even if it violates lore which they shouldn't be able to do.

I would say that this is up there with their bigger fish. They completely violated lore by making the Star Sapphire gear female only which not to mention is sexist. It is also equally puzzling since they made the Amazon and Wonder Woman gear for both genders even though there has never been a male Amazon or a Wonder Man. There have been more male Star Sapphires then there have been male Amazons and Wonder Men. It is imperative for canon integrity that they change this plus it only alienates people who wish to make Star Sapphire males.

Also the only agenda I have is for the devs to correct their lore violations and give us male Star Sapphire gear among some other things they need to correct like Cheetah being American etc. Besides it is sexist to make the Star Sapphire gear female only.

Please stop using the word "heterosexist" because you clearly don't even know what the word means.

    1. Except DC allowed the devs to make Star Sapphires female-only in this game. Had it been that important an issue to them, I'm sure we'd have seen male Star Sapphires among the converts in the content.

    2. Did a little snipping there because we know all that already. As for the rest? That's a bold amount of conclusion jumping to make, especially without anything to back up those assertions.

    3. I'd congratulate you on acknowledging that DC allowed it, but you just had to throw the "but" in there. You cannot and really should not place the blame all on the devs. They are not alone when it comes to decisions made regarding the game, and DC seems to have final say on things.

    4. When compared to things like prepping for a new console launch, balancing out power sets, delivering new content and adding new features, it's not up there with the bigger fish. While I can understand that you feel it's important, it's something that would address only a small part of the player base, and outside of your regular comments on it there hasn't really been a huge outcry for such a change to be made. You are free to keep trying if you so desire, but it's very easy to see it as someone trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

    5. Your concern over lore violations might have been a bit more believable if you hadn't tacked on the "sexist" comment at the end. Just saying. ;)
  17. MariaTenebre Committed Player

I am aware that DC allowed the devs to do this but they shouldn't have and they shouldn't be so lenient on them violating lore.

Again I say these assertions because the devs reasons for making the gear female only do not hold up and they haven't been creating that many skimpy or even more feminine outfits for men where as women get masculine clothes like suits etc.

I personally feel that lore violations are a big deal and yes there has been some outcry there have been many people on here besides myself stating that they are upset with the Star Sapphire gear being made female only and have voiced their concerns about it. I also will continue my crusade for this as I have longed to have a Star Sapphire Male character. I have 3 characters already all female and another female character coming when Water comes out and I have always had a desire to make a Star Sapphire male character. However I would also like a Blue Lantern character as well and I have made points on how to make this possible.

I do think it is rather sexist because males can be Star Sapphires as well as the fact that men can love as well as women.

I knew you would push back on that, so I will respond to you on this.

Yes Geoff Johns did say men can be members of the Star Sapphires but there is the one little part you always ignore. His exact words are "anyone can join, but most men are NOT WORTHY".

The DC Universe is made up of billions upon billions of planets with sentient beings on them, each planet most likely have many billions of these beings on them. Lets go even on this and say half of all those beings are male, at that we are talking about a massive amount of males out there, the highest number I can find is a Centillion and I am sure many of those wouldn't even come close to how many there are.

So lets say there is 1 male in (lets go with something a bit more known) a Septillion (that's 6 steps above a million), probably to low but it will suffice for this.

Now with that loose calculation, you want to then tell all of us, that out of the extremely rare few men that can be worthy through out the entire DC Universe, every single one (or at least a majority) of them all just happen to be from one little planet and all at the same time? Hmm, I guess Earth really is the center of all that exists.

Also adding that in the comic lore there have only been what 4 or 5 men who have temporarily worn the violet ring. That isn't even a microbe of anything noticeable in the scale of an entire universe. Most scientists would call that an abnormality, not proof.
  19. MariaTenebre Committed Player

Again I have been over this before. Geoff Johns stated that most men are not worthy but some men are and besides most people universe wide are not worthy of being Lanterns anyways however the Lantern powers are open to anyone who wishes to play them. Some may say that the reason that many men are not worthy is because they are not in touch with their emotions but some men are and some men have wielded the Violet Light of Love so the power and gear should be open to both sexes. It is just the same with the Red Lanterns originally they started out as majority villainous however the Corps itself does admit heroes and gradually more and more heroes were admitted. However even in game Guy Gardner is the sole heroic Red Lantern in an otherwise sea of villains. So even though the Red Lanterns are mostly villainous in comic lore because the power is open to heroes then heroes can join.

By extension this applies to the Star Sapphire even though that they are by majority female this does not stop men from joining. Men can still join as men are just as capable of love as women and there are males with a great ability to love and some are shown in the comics. These men are not anomalies they are proof that men can be Star Sapphires and as Geoff Johns stated the Star Sapphires are not female only. Men can still join although most are not worthy but by extension most heroes do not have enough Rage and hatred in their heart to be Red Lanterns and most people in general are not worthy of being Lanterns period. So again according to canon the Star Sapphires are open to all genders in spite of the fact that the majority of them are female. Just like that Red Lanterns are open to both heroes and villains in spite of the fact that the majority of them have been villainous. So just like the Vestments of Rage and Rage power is open to both heroes and villains so too should the Heart of the Predator and the Star Sapphire power be open to all genders as men have never been barred from being Star Sapphires. By the same token there are no male Amazons or Wonder Men and yet they made those gears for men and women. There have been more male Star Sapphires then there have been male Amazons and Wonder Men and yet the devs still decided to make that gear for both sexes. Also given that there are some men with just as much ability to love as females it is sexist and violates established lore to make the Star Sapphires female only.

That was the biggest avoidance of the actual question I've seen in a while.
