Honest Criticism & Bring Back Skill

I think the addition of the utility belts, consumables and home turf stuff are pretty neat. It really does capture the essence of what some of these iconic characters use. It also gives another level to PVP. Using the right consumable can really help. A good majority of the iconics use utility belts and gadgets. The pets and minions are something many of us have been asking for.

The only issue I seem to notice with the above stuff is the implementation of them. I feel that all of the base amenities should take up a power-slot if you want to use it on your character. Many people will complain it is a **** to do that, but it is a power if you really think about it. It is done successfully in legends PVP. They should also add the ability to switch between weapons.

Some of the consumables are just ridiculous. Anything that summons a minion, increases stats, constantly juggles people, and heals overtime should be removed. That has nothing to do with skill but with the fact that person has access to those consumables.

I am really starting to think that gear and SP are not the actual problem with PVP right now. The issue with gear is that it is too hard to obtain. They should lower the cost of all gear for PVP. ALL PVE CONTENT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM PVP ZONES. All of the trinkets should be removed too. The only trinket that should be allowed is a break out trinket. The pet trinkets are OBNOXIOUS. That PVE trinket that boosts stats and turns you into that flash looking thing is OBNOXIOUS. It doesn't belong in PVP.

What do you guys think? Tell me what you think!

I can see it two ways.

    – Anything you gain in PvE does not have a proper place in PvP.

I have to PvP to get my PvP gear just so I can square off againt someone with a Utility Belt full of pets, Mainframe modded gear, Orbital Strikes and Side Kicks. How hard do I really have to think about it to see the problem here?

    But...

–Getting beat by people that severely outgear you is not really a big deal.

Let's say I enter a lair battle in my full T2 gear and find myself up against a fully T4'd out player with whatever nonsense they've spent their hard earned MoT on. Why should I even care? I don't stand a chance and I'm still gonna get a mark. Just build your supercharger back up while they kill you and move on. Next.

Same goes for open world and arenas. Losing is pretty lossless in the end.
    And we always have Legends.

So personally, I think pets and the Home Turf stuff is junk in PvP, but I also think using it instantly removes your street cred.
It's a fine line and I will live either way.

The Base amenities do take up a slot, your trinket/utility belt slot.

I'm not sure what you have against the Central City trinket. It's just like any other trinket except that there's a transformation, which is actually bad for the person using it.

Why do you believe all trinkets except breakout trinkets should be removed? And what do you mean by PVE content in PVP zones?

I also don't agree with your consumables statement, considering everybody has access to the consumables. If they took the time to actually get them or make them then kudos to them.

Btw, not trolling, I'm just trying to get a feel for what you are asking for in your post. It sounds like you want Arenas to operate a lot like Legends from what I'm understanding,
  4. JMBOO New Player

From what I have read, one of the reasons consumables were made was due to the outcry of players of not being able to field roles or being queued into groups missing roles.

So they added consumables in order to help when a group is missing a role (or roles).

    Just something for your consideration.
  5. Horrorshow New Player

Yes and no. It just seems like there is too much going on. I do believe there should be consumables, utility belts, minions, etc. It just seems some of the consumables are giving way too much of an advantage. First you have gear giving people better stats, you have consumables giving people better stats, you have sockets giving people better stats, you have trinkets giving people better stats, and you also have SP giving people better stats. It is just too much. There is absolutely no balance. Sockets, gear and SP should be in arenas and remain the same. All PVE trinkets and gear need to be out of PVP arenas. The consumables that give health regeneration, juggles people, and PVP buff serums need to be removed. No one should have to go up against someone who is constantly spamming PVP serums or health regeneration consumables to cap nodes. That is what I mean because there is absolutely no skill to that.

When I mean PVP zones I meant arenas, sorry for the confusion.

The home base amenities don't feel like trinkets at all. They feel more like powers.

I don't mind all the stuff they have in the game. Gear should have to be worked for.

The only issue as a PvPer I have is all the PvE stuff in PvP.

    Yeah.

Is the PVP on the PS3 side different from PC?
  8. Mini Lini Loyal Player

I'm on the PC side. Though from what I can tell... They are having the same problems on PS3.

Definitely not disagreeing with you, Horrorshow.

Honestly, ever since the update right before The Last Laugh DLC, PvP, for me anyway, died.

In my view, SOE just took all of the fun out of PvP and replaced it with what they thought would make PvP more accesible to the casual gamer.

A shame, I think, but then again, there are those that really enjoy things the way they are, so, kudos to them.

Just too bad SOE will not make one Roll-back arena for those of us that enjoyed the old system. Oh well.

Anyway, that is just how I see it.

Introducing immunity back in GU 18 was the first major kink for a lot of pvpers. They did it to help with focus fire, which it does, but it's also not very intuitive to the casual player. I constantly see threads of new people wondering why nothing happens when they throw a BB at a blocking opponent. There's nothing ingame to explain what immunity is so it's just one of those mysteries for most new players.

The mainframe trinkets are turning out to be the second major hurdle to pvpers. The problem is that they basically grant the power of a supercharge without the limitations. Henchmen are basically like a grand summoning, orbital strike is like a strafing run or whatever. It's as if you have 3 extra supercharges on your bar that don't actually require you to build up sc beforehand.

Now you acknowledge my existence. :D I see how it is.

I never dabbled with the new stuff. I really have no desire to use any of it. It is an interesting concept though. I still think it needs to take up a power-slot though. ;/
  13. Chungweishan New Player

Whenever you make something easy for the casual player, it makes that much easier for the hardcore player. It's such a simple concept. The irony is that the hardcore players are the ones with consumables and all the mainframe mods/trinkets. Whereas casuals don't usually have the time or in-game money for that stuff.

If they don't plan on taking out PvE, then they need better counters specific to PvE trinkets/mods.
"Orbital Strike Misfire" - targets user instead of intended target.
"Pet Disabler" - all pets (ally and enemy) is disabled.
"Spoiled Supply Drop" - taints your enemy's supply drop to cause adverse effects.

    +1

It would just be easier to remove it LMAO

Something needs to be done. The less skilled players are now putting up more of a fight with pets and bs – I don’t mind the challenge but its relllllllly cheap and that annoys me more than anything. How is this skillful again ? it’s just a cheap way of winning. Not to mention it makes fight’s unbearably long now. I don’t mind a 20min fight at all but when its pets, then sc, trinkets, pets to fight through as well..cool downs matter now, not skill.

Devs obviously see that the pvpers are only good at what they do through repetition/losses and wins, but ultimately they learnt the game…nowadays any player can get full mods, pop all the pets they want. And not fluke a win or get lucky but are actually winning because of it which to a traditionalist pvper is very wrong. I don't use all this turd except the mods but yeah I am slowly losing my patience and resorting to using them….soon, problem is though I d rather not aggravate the situation by doing it.

We really need a barebones pvp mode where it mimics the way pvp was pre and at mega servers – same gear and the only deciding factor was skill points and actual skill.

I like all the Home Turf stuff in PVP. I think it adds a new dimension to PVP and I enjoy that. I bust out my stommies (henchmen) on the reg. I love orbital strikes as well. Now for super cereal 5s I imagine this stuff is all verboten. People tired of all the extra crap in PVP should look into joining the 5s community. Or synch queues with like-minded friends.
  17. Yallander Loyal Player

But it takes skill to defeat that many alerts, raids, duos, and challenges to pay for all these mods each month right!?!--oh wait that's called time and for me to have the money to pay for the game I need more of it going to my job and not working PT here.

That is so annoying. For people who hate PVE content they sure are forcing you to do it.
  19. Horrorshow New Player

You know PVP arenas is bad when people are hacking in PVP legends LMAO.
  20. xThe BlackDeath New Player

It never was truelly about skill. If you put some time to grind for gear you have the advantage. Same with skill points. Now with mods. I have fought many players that were better than me. I won only because of rps system, gear, and/or skill points. The new stuff is op and annoying. So I lose a few more times. Oh well. Now it is very funny when they still lose. Its rare when I come across an even opponent. I would prefer to not have henchmen or sidkicks in arenas. But it would be like low geared players asking to get rid of higher tier gear and/or skill points.
