Healer: Stay Sorcery or sell soul to convert to Electric?

Hello, my apologies for being a bother, but I'm kinda having a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice. So recently I converted my Sorcery dps into a healer and ended up falling in love with being a healer (guess I can't escape being a healer in a mmo lol) and so I've been working on it and while looking up guides and info on DCUO healing I noticed that a lot of it says that water and electric are the best healers and that sorcery and nature are bad and can't do elite content. Now I dunno if I'd ever do elite stuff since I tend to be a casual player, but at the same time I would like the option and wouldn't want to be a power that ends up as a major hinderance and unable to do content.

Now the major problem is that I'm disabled and currently fighting to try and get disability so I have no income at the moment and if I were to get electric along with a respec token, I would need to spend all my time on grinding out a paid survey app or potentially do more unsavory things just to get the money and while I would rather not do such things, I also have severe anxiety and if a power/job/class is a hinderance, then I end up grinding out what is regarded as best or competitive even if it ends up causing me great stress and mental anguish and potentially ruining the fun of a game just in the name of not being rejected to do content based on what power/job/class I picked instead of my skill as a player.

So to come to the end of this before I end up babbling on about things better left out of what should be a simple question about healers, is Sorcery worth sticking with or should I grind and scrounge up what little money I can to swap to Electricity for the long run?

not a fan of elec..its very reactive. For the most part, people have to get hurt > then you heal.
Sorc and others you can be more proactive and have heals running before then.

As a main electricity heal. I can tell you that most are electricity because of the damage potential even while healing but sorcery has never been a bad heal. In fact two of the longest players I know both main sorcery and both heal elite all the time. If anything you have alot of bad sorcery healers that don't get how to do it right. Some of them just don't ajust their rotations for the type of raids they are in.

Never fee forced to switching powers or doing anything based on what others want you to do.

All healers powers are capable to healing all content. So some have an easier time? Sure but that doesn’t mean it’s so much better that not being said power will hurt your group.

As it stands all reg content can be done with just your group heal, priority heal, and group shield. Everything else is extra. For elite you may want specific things to make your job easier. But even for that you can do just fine with those 3 abilities. For running elite it may be easier to focus on arts and allies more so than what power you want to be. A simple set up for allies is using cyborg and orcl bot which are a rare and epic ally. They will pretty much maintain your power to the point you can almost none stop spam.

For arts you can slowly work on 3 healer arts. Getting them to 80/120/160 would be enough. You can even use trans for both dps and healing to cut down resource requirements.

Well at the moment, I've been using a build that was posted on this site.

    https://forums.daybreakgames.com/dcuo/index.php?threads/clarion-healing-builds.325542/

So far it has been a lot of fun for me since I like being a bit more of an offensive healer than a pure defensive one (e.g. Disc Priest in WoW with healing through damage and shields, Sage in FF14 with it's Kardia buff that heals a target when you use offensive spells along with shields and mitigation cooldowns and hots with some burst heals on cooldowns) and it has been doing great for me despite being low on my artifacts (all at 90-119 atm) and low sp. I do enjoy how Sorcery heals and personally would only go Electric for the visuals, but I've always been more of a proactive healer with shields and hots and healing by damaging.

Overall, since I hadn't done much with my Sorcery as a dps, I am mostly starting it fresh as a healer (though did get a bit of a start with gear and artifacts) so I've just been using that above base and looking at video guides and whatever info I can find so that I can spend my SMs effectively when I get enough to get allies and whatnot.

If you prefer this type of healing, it’s considered battle healing. Where you will heal while still having some level of offensive presence. A few things to keep in mind is that in elite content (raids generally speaking) you could potentially hold your team back since you won’t be able to fully heal through some mechanics. In elite content things can hit harder. There are also mechanics that deal % damage that needs to be healed and even some one shots. So this isn’t about what power you are, more on being a full heal vs battle heal. There is also the 10k healer which is essentially a SC battery for the dps.

There are multiple ways to play. You just have be aware of your abilities and personal skill level. Know where you need to improve smg how to bests utilize what you have access to.

Oh, I figure that at that point I would need to go to a more pure healer type of build, for now since I'm still getting feats from areas and old content, I figured having offense would help with soloing open world stuff and adding a bit more dps for old content to help it clear faster and also to have a transition going from dpsing to healing. I do plan to explore healing more and shift into a more focused healer as I get more sp and get closer to being able to try elite stuff since I'm under 200 at the moment and trying to work on all the open world stuff and old stuff.

As a Sorcery healer since 2012, never gets old seeing a wave of green wash over your screen

You get a heal! You get a heal! You get a heal!

    EVERYBODY GETS A HEAL!!!

Luckily, with some armories, you can just hop between DPS/hybrid/full on with the push of a button (and a little bit of time). I know quite a few endgame Elite Sorc healers and they do just fine. The others might have a slightly easier learning curve, but I'll admit to not knowing a whole lot of NEW players. They've all been doing it for years and years. Experience can make anything look easy.

Well, I classify myself as new mostly because I don't play this game often enough to know a whole lot about it. Technically I've played off an on back during the introduction of advanced mechanics, but never more than maybe a month or two and hadn't played since Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn was released. I came back to the game last year when my PC broke and all I have is my Switch and figured I'd give it a go again. I had started off trying to be a fire tank, but then ended up grinding paid surveys to unlock Munitions for dps and ended up sticking with that for a bit. When the anniversary event happened and I learned about the free CR boost, I figured I'd do a Sorcery character since I usually do some type of caster in most games I play and after learning about pet builds, I figured I could try and mimic playing a Summoner from F14. It was ok for a bit, though I kept flip flopping between Sorcery and Munitions and couldn't really settle. Last week or so, I was asked to heal as Sorcery and I had to say no since I had no healing stuff and only have the freebie armory so couldn't really do multiple setups. So I figured I may as well just convert Sorcery to healer and have Munitions as dps, but ended up falling in love with healing in this game and so it solidified as being a healer main with Sorcery being my healer power since I don't have any of the dlc ones.

Now I'm just working on getting practice in as a healer and getting myself all set up to hopefully be a great healer as time goes on. So yeah, have played a good bit, but not seriously enough so I consider myself as new since I don't really know much of the game as a whole while just kinda stumbling about as I try to learn what I can and making do with information that is usually 2 or more years old. Also with my anxiety, it makes it both hard for me to pick purely on enjoyment and also for me to just make a topic and ask more experienced players on advice (though I have been getting better about that).
  12. BumblingB I got better.

Man, I always thought we sold our souls to become magical, not the other way around.

Jokes aside, Sorcery is really good and is very much capable to heal any form of content. What it usually struggles with is dungeon crawling and where you have to keep moving. Which is why most people would choose Electric over the others.

Honestly, the only reason to switch to Electric would be the damage side, but you said you started as a DPS first. So you enjoy the Sorcery.

I would vote, stay sorcery and find a build that works best for your abilities. Page of Destiny is your friend, btw, but that's a long haul for all powersets.

BTW, each of the healing types have a unique way of doing their roles.
    • Sorcery pets and AOE healing. Has burst potential.
    • Nature is passive HOT healing. Has little burst potential.
    • Electric is burst healing. Has little HOT. Does have a safety net.
    • Celestial is combo burst healing.
    • Water is burst. Has some combo abilities. Group shielding with partial mitigation.
All can do their job and it depends on the content on why one is lacking. Back in the day, Nature was amazing in content that lasts a long time and were not big damage attacks. Most of the time, you are avoiding getting hit and burst healing is way more effective in the current meta.

I have just made a nature character since I have never touched nature the entire time I have tried the game out and so far I am oddly liking the visuals and wonder if Nature is equally as good as Sorcery, but with just tons of hots and keeping up pheremones? Looking at it's skiils and how pheremones works, I'm kinda digging it. Though it wouldn't be until the next anniversary event and free CR skip before I did anything with it and would give me tons of time to practice with Sorcery and see if I end up sticking to Sorcery or still feeling like I should swap.
