Okay, so I haven't played DCUO in several years. Heck, my main is only CR 72. I've been thinking of coming back, but wanted to know how difficult it would be to catch up in CR and see some of the DLCs and Episodes that I've missed.
Depends. Would you subscribe? Then it wouldn't be an issue at all. Buy episodes? May take a while unless you literally buy everything which may be a pretty steep investment. F2P? You can get to almost endgame CR but it's going to take ages after CR90 if you rely on scaling event gear to progress.
Oh yeah, should have mentioned: I would be subscribing. I know subscribing gets the DLCs and powers. Does it also get the Episodes?
Also depends on faction, it might be a little easier on the hero side due to it's higher population, but villains you would have a longer wait on queues and be better off trying to find a league that would help you gear up. Episodes count as dlc, so yes
Thanks for the replies so far. So where could I find a good progression guide for current DCUO? I need to get familiar with all the content options and such.
one word of advice is to make sure u raise not just ur cr but your sp as well,try to do feats as much as u can,bad part is q times for raids etc is sometimes frustrating,ive gone hours and even some raids ive gone a couple days before finally getting a q to it and what makes it more frustrating is if people quit in the middle of a raid,since the revamp ive noticed more people quitting in the middle.It used to be people would go into raids and just be carried thru it,now it takes everyone to do their part,if not it makes it much harder to beat the raid,the elite raids I havnt even tried playing since the revamp, they were hard enough before lolol
Right now DCUO has Earth 3 preview stuff ( 4 instances )& the Anniversary Event going on that drops unattuned gear that scales up on a percentage. The vendors there also have gear that scales. You can run most of the misions daily along with the DLC content to raise your CR alot quicker than we use to be able to do. Also if your top CR is 70 something Which probably means you left before AM's. You will find the content is not much different than when you left as far as difficulty goes.
It will go faster than you think... the days are gone where gaining 1 cr was a huge thing - now you can get that running the vault lol
Just be forewarned, cr 72 is in the 'dark' era, very few missions to do to get gear. This continues til cr 84. Do the events missions to help speed up the process.
Just beware of those nasty, awful, awful high CRs and their disgustingly appalling behaviour, who will queue into YOUR content (that they also pay for) and completely ruin your entire life by skipping a few adds. You might need counselling after witnessing such an atrocity. PTSD is a very real threat so make sure you have a strong support network of people to get you through those devastating and trying times. You may never get over such a nightmarish experience and I wish you all the luck when coming up against your abusers. There is absolutely no way in the world to avoid them, none at all. You’re trapped I tells you. It pains me so much to even think about, I just can’t go on anymore. /end sarcasm Seriously though, you’ll be fine. You’re in a but of a bad CR bracket but the current event should help a lot. It’s quite easy to gain CR these days.
The good thing is that after such a lonnnng break.... you will have LOTS of new content to play. I have lots of videos.... many of which after CR 70.... so you can look for yourself if you want to. Here are a few free samples ;
in 3 days your free sample Trial period will be over and he charges $29.99 a month (+taxes) the fine print is clear that you must cancel your forced subscription with 72 hours of receiving it LOL
A few tips from me that helped me rushing through six episodes when I returned from a one-year hiatus: - get a few people to help you because if you really want to speed up things you should do as much as you can on day 1-3 of your return - get into raids first up until the new content has scaled gear (which takes a while, IIRC it just started with Amazon Fury 3) Reason is simple: Since the raids in the lower contents drop the best gear with the highest Item Level you have a higher chance of getting your CR up. When you ran all the raids in your Tier stage, go to alerts and get gear there. Then do the rest for marks. - Use a combat rating calculator to find out which vendor piece gets you the most in CR - For content before Weapon Boxes (I think this was implemented after Halls of Power II?) spec 1 Point into each weapon so that if you get a higher CR weapon you immediately can push your CR. This should be your priority, not your weapon of choice - Use your Subs Replay badges when you get to Elite Alerts (e.g. Rip in Time) since there also drops the highest CR stuff for that episode - spend a few 100K if you have them on Time Capsule Gear pieces since they scale according to your current CR. Some of those pieces (hands, feet, waist) are painfully cheap - Elite alerts do not share a lockout with regular alerts. So if you run Phantom Zone you can still run Phantom Zone Elite the same day and still get loot. Use this to get more gear pieces and marks per day. Elite Alerts however have a weekly lockout. Hope that helps
It looks like your main questions have been covered by others, but I will just add my two cents. It is much less of a chore to level today then it was when you played regularly before. The seasonal event (Anniversary at this time), the preview event (Earth 3 at this time), and the vault will all give you gear upgrades. I would recommend checking out the "stat revamp" and artifacts announcements and discussions. https://www.dcuniverseonline.com/news/dcuo-state-of-the-stats-revamp-august-2017
Personally, I just came back from a 2-3 year break. When I left, I was around 120 CR. It took me 3 weeks to go from 120 to 220 CR. Catching up is plenty fast, I've experienced it first hand.
