The original Legend of Zelda for NES was released 30 years ago today... February 21, 1986. It's hard to believe it's been that long. Zelda was really the first game that got me hooked enough to play over and over. I still have it today on my portable emulator. My tank armory resembles a Red Darknut's armor from the original Zelda. It's my regular armor using Alyssa's colors, but there was probably some subconscious Zelda influence! Oh wow, way too many memories. The Zelda games took hold of pretty much my whole family. So much time was spent filling out blank spots on a strategy guide map and figuring out the secrets, with Mom leading the charge on quite a bit of it. In fact, when the second NES Zelda game came out my brothers, my Dad and I had gone out shopping (was around the holidays) and we came home to find Mom playing the new Zelda game! As we walked in with our mouths agape, her head whipped around and the first words out of her mouth were, "No one else gets a turn until I'm done!" I haven't played all of them, but I've played/owned almost every Zelda game that's hit the consoles (didn't get the zapper game for the Wii). Even though I haven't played much of it, I picked up Skyward Sword in large part to get the soundtrack disc that came with the game. Hyrule Warriors ate up a decent chunk of time, and I'm going to have to resist the urge to pick up a 3DS to play the portable version (and get the new characters like Linkle into the Wii U game). I've even collected all the Zelda-themed amiibo figures and the Wii U version of Twilight Princess is likely a purchase. Heck, I picked up the HD version of Wind Waker, so why not? LOL That reminds me, I still gotta nab that fast sail for Wind Waker.....
Wow, I'm feeling older now...30 years dang....I remember how tough this game actually was and how cool it was to finally get the gold sword and felt like a beast...lol Great game, what else can be said..
It as fun to do other challenges after completing the game over and over. I remember skipping the first sword and just killing things with bombs to get to the 2nd one. If there were only feats back then!
First Zelda game I played was Ocarina of Time. I was hooked after after the opening cut scene. Still missing one Gold Skultula from my original game...may have to go back and see if I can hunt it down. XD Dev bought me the Wind Waker (for WiiU) so that I can re-enjoy it in HD. How fitting.
OMG, Zelda was the game to have when the NES hit the shelves back in the 80s. I still remember the gold cartridge version we had. And with the TV show on Saturday mornings, I was always humming the theme, lol. And to boot does anyone remember the secret passageway in the League of Assassin's alert where you have to break the wall to open it. Alhough there's nothing in there, first time I did it, I was expecting the Zelda secret found sound, lol
DCUO could use more of those Zelda secret moments. http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/LOZ/LOZ_Secret.wav

The legend of zelda is definitely one of my favorite video game series of all time I just made this video in honor of it I've played countless hours of the zelda games, Ocarina of time is awesome and definitely a classic but The wind waker is probably my favorite. I've played and replayed it many times already as well.
Great job on the costume, I've tried once or twice to recreate it but I was never satisfied with the results. You mentioning Wind Waker being a favorite just reminded me of the uproar that happened when they first showed screenshots of that game, though. I remember more than a few fans having fits over the cel-shaded style of the game and writing it off as a loss because of it. They knew what they were doing, though, as that one was a big hit in the Zelda series. The HD remake is great, too. I wouldn't have thought it would make that much of a difference with the cel-shaded look, but the HD version really is gorgeous.
wow 30 years ago, I can't count of my digits on how many times I've beaten it. I think my favorite thing to do in that when I burn down the old man's door and was force to pay him for it. I would do that over and over just for fun after having nothing else to buy with the rubies.
How could I forget about the original commercial! I remember watching it and thinking "this dude looks nothing like Link!"
Spent so much time playing this. I remember going to each area/room and pushing on all the rocks, trees, etc. just to see if there was a secret there. Figuring stuff out on your own is a lost art. Now it's watch a video on youtube.
If I remember right, the actor in that commercial was the voice of the Crypt Keeper in Tales from the Crypt.
I thought that voice sounded familiar. He looks better as a 1/2 dead walking and talking corpse. Oh, and he's not funny.
