Handling Rude Players?

It depends on how far you want to take it as well, the amount of "N" bombs dropped in trade chat at times is abhorrent but it seems certain segments of society find this language acceptable, personally, I don't, but that's just me.

It does however become asinine to report every occurrence of that if not silly because despite the fact I find it subjectively reprehensible they're not really going out of their way to offend me, they're just using an offensive word through ignorance and stupidity, or sometimes because they're trying to be edgy.

Differentiating between that intent can at times be difficult, but is also at times rather obvious, utilizing the report feature when the intent is obvious is in my opinion the better course of action. I don't see a lot of need to utilize it just because some people are being ignorant/silly, although its my job to help make the community a better place, it isn't my role to just outright 'police everyone and every thing with a "Karen" badge stuck to my chest.

Having an in game GM would of course be useful but that's a judgement call no doubt on how much money Dimensional Ink want to pay for those kinds of services and whether they see it overall as enough of issue to warrant it. :)

Randomly Monitoring chat has been a long requested thing. Im on board 100%

You're absolutely right. Ignoring the person should be your initial course of action. I don't see how that method can fail unless that individual jumps on ALTS to harass you. At that point, that's when you should report the person.

The problem is that a lot of people get into arguments and don't know when to just ignore and quit. They have to get the last word out.

Yeah I understand. I just find it quite strange how little monitoring of the chats is done. The **** I hear sometimes, lol. Most MMO I play have some sort of monitoring and it isn't left in the players hands to do that.

Are you telling me I have to buy those Allies and more TCs in order to put a stop to "N" bombs in the chats? lolol.

    Yup, that^^^

And that is part of the whole point of the process.
If u 1st kick and that doesn't solve the issue for you (i.e. the player continues to msg you or whatever)
The 2nd step is ignore. If that doesnt solve the issue for you (i.e. the player uses alts or other avenues etc to continue it)
    The 3rd step is reporting

Its not difficult, its really not

Private chats are one thing and I wouldn't want them monitored but definitely have some form of monitoring in the general chats and the global chats. Hand out warnings first, then mute people for X amount of time if they reoffend and then start handing out real bans.

If that was the case, we wouldn't be having this conversation my friend. Like I said, people are hard headed.

Well I mean, in saying that there is a profanity filter in place and I believe it is on by default.

With that being said, has not a player who has actively gone in and turned that off, not at least to some extent asked to be offended?

I know there's no excuses for using disgusting language but at the same time the tools are provided by the developers to limit your exposure should you have an issue with written language you find less than desirable.

I don't get offended personally but at the same time, that feature is about the equivalent of the blurry private parts in Japanese pornography.

Joke around in tells or on mic, problem solved.
  12. Proxystar #Perception

Hey don't knock those blurry parts they've kept me safe, I mean they've kept my 'friend' safe for a long time now.
  13. OnlyNomad The One Above All

You just implied that telling certain jokes between friends in general chat or global chats could get you reported. If your jokes between you and your friend could potentially get you reported, either don't tell them or tell them in private.

The humor I have between certain friends doesn't always translate with others or even other friends, same way you tell certain jokes in private and not in a professional setting. It's common sense, really. Like the jokes me and my buddies make over a pint, we don't tell them at a board meeting.

Oh **** so having our board meetings at the park has probably been a bad idea, I wondered why we got those dagger eyes,

I just pictured a bunch of suits bringing a whole *** conference table in the middle of the park with the projector and a screen.

No, we gave up on the projector, cause we couldn't see the screen.
