Good tips for new players.

No, it isn't 'bashing' but doing it in a 'tips for new players' thread is kind of low. Again...start a 'the game sucks' thread or 'why is this game still running' thread and have the discussion. I'll probably have 2 cents to add there as well.

Let the 'tips' thread be what it is supposed to be for those that are looking for that info.

    I didn't say anything... Lol
  3. Raven Nocturnal Devoted Player

Naw, I was just trying to point out that stating the obvious doesn't always mean it's a bad thing. Eye of the beerholder and whatnot. I don't want to make a thread like that because my views were already expressed enough heh. Not always negative, either. Some might see it as negative, but I see it as just being real. It is what it is.

Funny, that. So I must not have quoted you then. lol... And even if I somehow imagined that particular post - your general demeanor on the forum says more than enough...
  5. Raven Nocturnal Devoted Player

See my reply to Reinheld. You might have quoted me, but I am not the one who originally said the things I was quoting. Don't put words in my mouth.

Edit: And you are one to talk about demeanor... Always posting harshly and negativity to people's ideas and suggestions. I might be a realist but even I don't do that...

    Telling people:

absolutely is telling people not to play or enjoy it.

    Welcome to the internet.

As someone who plays as a Healer and as DPS and as a Tank (two Fire Tanks and I started Atomic tanking recently), YES. Also:

    6. Don't try to pull aggro off the Tank unless they ask you to. It's annoying when you're trying to keep the boss from killing the DPSes, and you've got that one DPS that keeps using Magic Lasso on the boss.
    7. If there's a Healer, don't expect them to run over and pick someone up. If you're closer, it's your job. The Healer probably has their hands full trying to keep other players from going down. That said...
    8. Just because you're the Healer, doesn't mean don't pick someone up even if you're closer to them. Too many DPS don't want to interrupt their rotation. Just make sure you can do it without getting taken down yourself.
    9. Pay attention to the chat box, even if you don't chat. Sometimes other players in the group, who are familiar with the instance, have advice on how to get through it. If another player is saying "block if there's an arrow over your head, or we ALL wipe." it does no good if no one reads it.

they've relaunched the thread. hopefully, we can get that one up & running. you should post this there, if you can. I got a feeling this one's on it's last legs.

all good advice, by the way!

Good tips, especially #9. I WISH people would pay attention to the chat box... Most of the time it makes me wonder if they completely disabled it somehow lol

Well good thing my account is a decade old then or I would have a problem on my end.

Get over yourself. If you want to continue to line their pockets up while they continue to give half *** content or even update anything go for it.

Game is almost 13 years old and like I said, it’s GAME BASED OFF DC COMICS AND THERES ONLY 15 powers and no talks of ever getting another. No new weapons, the SAME OL’ “We’re working on balancing powers” for the last decade now. How hard is it to figure out balance? Oh wait…. Powers don’t get the balance updates no more, we’re on to making new artifacts to pocket some more money, make a super overpowered one, let everyone spend their money, nerf it, rinse, repeat.

You can be blinded by nostalgia of this game, but quit thinking this game’s direction is going anywhere positive. There’s a reason majority of their dev team left and went onto bigger and better things than wasting their time on a game that’s in a coffin.

And what I said wasn’t wrong, I told new players how it is. The same reused areas, same dlc with a new name, same open world missions, beat 100 things of this, do 25 things of this, fight open world boss. This game barely sees 3,000 players daily anymore. Sounds like it’s dead to me. You’re living on false hope. The games so damn unpopular that even DC Comics website don’t even have anything mentioned about this game lmfao. A game based entirely on the dc universe and DC comics don’t even acknowledge it.

Am I supposed to get on the forums and lie and tell new players “oh, yeah the games great, the company isn’t money hungry or anything and don’t want to fatten their pockets a bit more at your expense while they continue the reused content they gave you 5 years ago.” Why would they do such a thing.

Ok. A - I dropped sub 2 years ago and have spent very little since, so I'm not lining anyone's pockets. B - No one is coming in here saying 'games great' or anything of the sort. However, the the topic of the thread is 'tips for new players'...meaning people who ARE playing the game. Some of them ARE money saving steps, like being selective on artifacts or saving Nth for 2x weeks, so directly against 'lining their pockets'. And while I suppose 'don't play' can also be considered a 'tip', why not make a new thread and bash away?

And do you really think it matters if maps are re-used or episodes are formulaic for someone just getting started? I'd wager most newer players will bounce around DLCs...unlike how we would spend 3-5 months in one as it was new. Repetition would likely be less of an annoyance at that rate. I've talked to some new players I have run with and map reuse or repetition of daily missions has never really come up with them...it's the vets who notice and dislike it the most. Now once those new players have been around a while, yeah...it will get to them, but the post was not for the vets.

And if you think I'm 'blinded by nostalgia' or defending the game, go ahead and read some of my other posts. There's a theme, and it isn't 'game is great!', however I wasn't coming in to derail a thread that would be beneficial to those who ARE wanting to play and especially those who don't know the ins and outs like someone who's been here 10 years.

Personally I've gotten down to a few hours a week myself, only getting on tonight for the first time in a while (except the daily login minute I normally do), mainly to make sure I have enough to finish off the current STU feats as I've run very little of that this year. And actually, if you quit playing that long ago, you're right, I wouldn't expect you to come in here and say 'games great'....I wouldn't expect you to come in here at all honestly.

No, of course not. What you should do is keep coming back like a dog to vomit and try to spoil the game for any new players, like a crazy ex, who got way too invested in a relationship that didn't work out and now - years later - can't move on. Because that's what self-respecting adults do... :D Nobody's going to stop you, but you can't expect to be respected for doing that.

The game is what it is. It was never that great, you just didn't see it when you first played it, because you were excited about cosplaying as Batman. You got your expectations high and got burned - big deal, get over it. There won't be another DCUO, because of the cost and legal issues associated with developing a licensed game of such scale in a dying genre, when gaming market is over-saturated. If you don't understand that - enjoy what's left of your childhood...

So first off any new player who sees they need to save NTH to wait for a double nth week would HAVE TO SPEND money to save a ridiculous amount of it. A free to play player only gets 2 characters and a very limited amount of invertory to even remotely have enough to level JUST ONE artifact and that’s not even including seals to actually make sure they get through, nor the materials needed to complete it. So in order to even save on nth THE GAME FORCES you to spend money because you never know when they’re going to do a double xp week (usually dlc timeframe), but a someone who is free to play can’t save that much without spending at least 5$ to get premium. So a young child who doesn’t work, or parents may have money problems can’t provide it. Sure 5$ isn’t a lot of money, but some people have bigger fish to fry than waste 5$ for something that shouldn’t be there to begin with. That’s also not adding in seals that cost money too, I mean sure you can wait to buy one off dr fate, but guess what? That takes time to get that amount to buy a seal, and now you missed the rest of double xp because you couldn’t breakthrough. This game is money hungry.

And yes it DOES IT MATTER THE SAME MAPS ARE BEING REUSED. That’s being lazy. To hype up new content that’s not even remotely new is being lazy, I played the game since beta and quit off and on after they ruined pvp and came back multiple times to see content I did 7-8-9 years ago being used in dlc that came out in the last 2 years. That’s lazy.

Defend the game all you want. I’m telling new players the truth and not going to sugarcoat a thing about it. In order to progress in this game you’re going to spend countless money due to artifacts and skill points due to time capsules (another money grab, here’s a style you can’t get no where else and we made it near impossible to get the the rare style/material without spending 100$).

Oh yeah can’t forget about the booster bundles either.

The devs never listen to any of the hardcore player base and look where it got them. They listen to the casual gamer who logs in for a few hours.

If you don’t enjoy it, move on. It’s quite an ego to think that everyone must share your perspective and label it “the truth.”

I'm not defending the game. It 100% can be money grubbing...TCs are laced with SP to drive their sales...for sure. There are LOTS of $$ sinks to be had, especially if you just jump blindly in on things (hence a 'tips for new users' thread). I'm just saying if you are so weak willed that YOU cannot avoid spending a ton of money to get your artis up, collect TCs, grind out ALL the allies, that's on you. Personally I tell new users NOT to do those things and just enjoy learning their toon/role and work on old feats...get those other things later when they've progressed. About the only things I tell anyone to spend any $ on if brand new is a 2nd armory, the portable workstation and yes....that will get you your $5 premium access.

And yeah, I would assume anyone wanting to play the game for any substantial amount of time would spend $5 1 time for the benefits of Premium. Just the ability to mail items, use your cash, broker, the extra toon slots and inventory/bank space saves so much time and headache in daily play. I know MY time is worth $5....maybe yours is not? I'd say it's a bargain at $5....MUCH more worth it than a small coffee at Starbucks, and I'd say you'd get more use out of it than that. Make a cup at home that day. If someone is running so tight that $5 is one of their larger worries, yeah...maybe playing an MMO...ANY MMO, should be lower on their concern list. Past that? You can 100% enjoy and do well at the game without spending another dime. You can say you CAN'T all you want, but I have premiums with 1, 2 or 3 200 artis and they've never spent a nickel past the $5....they don't even have the means (no cc/paypal/steam attached to them).

The fact you added Booster bundles in as any kind of requirement to playing the game just shows how ingenuous you are. Those are pure cosmetics and luxury items you can do without. Anyone acting like a BB is required is full of crap. Same with TCs. Besides the fact you CAN get them for free just by playing the game and buying stabilizers that are available from vendors, you can also generate the cash in game to buy what you can't get. I haven't bought a stabilizer since maybe the original Amazonian TC and I've got every item from every TC up till this current one...and I'll have done by the time it moves to the next one. Heck, I've got dang near 1000 UNLOCKED TCs just from megas and haven't opened any just because I don't have the time to do so. You need to exercise some self control if you are spending 100$ with any velocity. Maybe cut up your credit card?

And BTW...you were on here less than 2 years ago worrying about people 'not being good enough' to beat clamped content, something that takes virtually no money to do as the artis/allies and SP don't factor in as much, AND it's 100% repeated content because it's actually the OLD content...seemed ok you you not that long ago. What happen...you catch a ban or something and now just want to vent on people still playing?

PS. It's hilarious you've got me 'defending' the game. I generally come off as quite a nay-sayer around here and have personally slowed my play down to a minimum. That doesn't mean I can't see that a new person can enjoy playing it. Moreso if they know what they are doing earlier and don't make the mistakes that some of the 'new' players do (like chasing artis/TCs or working on nonsense they don't need to). Maybe they won't stick around for 13 more years, but hey....who says they need to stay around that long to have some fun?

PPS. If you are missing breakthroughs because you don't have a seal (and yeah...they are 'free' from DR Fate), see my section on power 'over loading' an artifact with Nth. It was 100% made with the free/premium player in mind who doesn't have the means or inclination to spend money on seals but wants to take advantage of a 2x XP or clear the limited space from their inventory The reason I know it was geared for the Free/premium player is that's who I used it on. Again...these are things new players need 'tips' on. Hence this thread.

did move on to better things, as I said earlier in this post that I come back to check the forums every so often to see if any big changes are happening and I continue to see the same thing over and over again. And an ego? I think the player base not even being able to amass 10,000 daily players shows that majority of people felt the same way I felt/feel.
  19. xAcHieVeD Well-Known Player

That’s funny now, OLD CONTENT IS OLD CONTENT. That is completely irrelevant when the same areas FROM OLD CONTENT IS BEING USED FOR “NEW CONTENT” because the development team is too lazy to make new areas, new mechanics etc. and I guess you skipped over the entire part where I said “ I played the game since beta and quit off and on after they ruined pvp and came back multiple times to see content I did 7-8-9 years ago being used in dlc that came out in the last 2 years”. Yes I came back to see how the stat clamped worked and yes I played OLD CONTENT, also played the latest dlc at the time and guess what? It was the same areas from OLD CONTENT. Quite pathetic if you ask me that this dev team would rather give you styles than actual content and the player base is okay with it and just eats it up. I guess you also skipped over the part about YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND GET ENOUGH DR FATE TOKENS TO EVEN GET SEALS, guess reading isn’t for everyone.

And I’m not banned, I can download the game and log in tomorrow, and sure we can go with that. I just want to vent to people still playing. I’d rather watch this game die due to money greed of the developers. Developers are so cheap they couldn’t even fix pvp because it doesn’t make them any money. That’s lazy as well.

And I brought up Booster Bundles because it’s literally just another cash grab, sure you don’t need it, but it’s just the point of it being a cash grab while they got 15 different cash grabs. And yeah trusts another one, for new players that need skill points because a literal website can get you kicked from a raid due to your arts being low and no skill points due to elitist in end game raids. New players leave before they even get to end game because they can’t to end raids due to lack of population, can barely get any feats from older raids because majority of the players who queue them are end game with the skill points already and aren’t stopping to help a new player. I’ve made alts and tried to level up them up to end game just for the fun of it, I can’t count how many times I asked players to get this feat and get ignored, yes I had a league, yes I had friends, yes I played stupid and acted new just to get a reaction and what’s funny they ignored me when I asked how to play just trolling and messing around. Not one person sent me a tell or even bothered to explain

New players aren’t coming to the forums by the boat load either, hell if I recall the game doesn’t even tell you they have a forums(yes I’m aware that most people should have the mental capacity to know there’s one for 99% of video games) , but still people wouldn’t bother coming here. Majority of the player base then and now don’t even come to the forums.
