Hah yes!!! This boss fire tank, who actually knew how to tank!! :D

Ice definitely does not hit defense cap without blocking. Read up a few posts to see how armor penetration works with defense to make you take more damage no matter how high your defense is.

Not trying to argue just clearing up misconceptions and stereotypes.

    *I typed somethings wrong, sry.

That's the reason I was talking with 13igtyme there's something wrong with this maths about mitigation.

In the practice, this numbers aren't making much sense.

Ice is the more fun tank for me, so... I saw this hits more time with Ice than with the others. And if I block and don't use any shield, that Red Ball is hitting 7000-8000 dmg in my Ice tank.PS: Without block is HK, with 15k+ dmg.
Today, I got a death because of it... Reflection duration is 6 seconds, and I can't use some shields like SW or WW while reflection is active because it will overwritte and cancel both effects. I have a video about it.

0.5 seconds after the Reflection duration, I got a hit by this Red Ball without any shield protecting me and I lost 7400 health plus some lasers by Tyrant and I died.
PS: i have only 8500 health

As earth, the strongest hit by this Red Ball was something close to 4000, being the most around 3500 dmg only.

After make compare both tank powers: Ice x Earth. My opinion is

Earth is the best option for paradox, because is the easiest to heal and the easy to play. You just need to use JackHammer every 10 seconds while the boss isn't using any very strong atk and back to block. And the health effectiveness is the best one.

But Ice is the best choice for experienced players. Because if you know how to use the shields perfectly, you can survive very well when face to face with the boss. And Ice has their shields to use while dodging/running if the heal get any trap, so you can survive much more than the others when you aren't face to face with the boss.

I don't know if I can agree with some of that Earth might be easy to use for a fully geared tank with experience, but not the easiest to pick up and use right out of the gate. Otherwise we'd se more earth tanks. Earth has the highest effective health when blocking its only natural if they make it harder.

I'll also add if you using phase dodge, which I know you like to Dianna, of course its going to be easy. However, phase dodge isn't needed and most of the animations are shorter than most of fire or ice animations, and can get into block rather quick.

Earth has the greatest potential but many lack the skill to bring that out. It could use some small tweaks to make it more user friendly but otherwise all 3 powers are pretty similar overall.
  7. Vulmyss Dedicated Player

But it doesn't really matter how good a power it is if nobody can use it correctly(except those few who do.)
Fire tanks have some very good players, and quite a few very very and ones.
Ice tanks really don't have to worry about any outside mechanics, they just have to draw aggro and sit there popping reflect/bitter winds every little bit.
So most players who get high enough with ice can be effective tanks, without having to be taught the ins and outs of their power by a more experienced player.

    Yes... Sorry

Fire is the easiest to play on Paradox, but isn't the more powerful.
Earth is easy, but not the easiest to play on Paradox, but is the easiest to heal and very powerful for any boss.
Ice is the hardest for some bosses like Ravager or face to face Sentry, but is the easiest to face to face Oppressor and Warrior. Sometimes the hardest to heal against Ravager and easiest to heal against Oppressor.

Are different situations, but Fire is basicaly the easiest. Because you just need to cast the agro power and block again and wait for the heal.
Earth is stronger than Fire only and only when Jackhammer is in use... If you aren't without the 50% ABS and only with 25% ABS, Fire has a better health effectiveness... Making Earth the best with Jackhammer on and maybe the worst with Jackhammer off.
Ice is the best one when Reflection is active and you are blocking, but against bosses with HIGH dmg and CONSTANT dmg like Ravager does... You are much more heal dependent is the hardest to heal.

Different situations... I can say all tanks are balanced in intelligent hands. Each one with their tricks, advantages and gameplay style.

I don't really see the need for too many tweaks, except of course letting unstoppable actually be usable while controlled, but the same could be said of fire and Burning determination. Or add another CC immunity power. The dps side needs a few tweaks.

    Isn't smileb4death an earth dps?
He clips like crazy and can pull off some good numbers, if I remember correctly

I would like to add a thing... Ice tank, in the basic can be just Reflection/Bitter Winds... But the strongest Ice Tank will not use just it to survive. You really need others things to be less heal dependent as possible.
  12. Vulmyss Dedicated Player

Well their other shields, if the healer is down, I suppose. But when their healer is up and active, they, in what I've observed, don't need to do much more than keep their defense and shields up, no?
I mean they have to position themselves correctly, and know the fight, but that's not what I'm talking about

I know it and then 7000*1.90=13330 amour piercing 13330*0.5=6650 6650/72=92% it does hit cap easy
  14. Cream Corn New Player

Armor piercing can reach up to 65% in t5 content. Ice can only hit cap while blocking and is around 60% mitigation while not blocking. Look back a page to see more specific numbers.
  15. Cream Corn New Player

The tweaks I mean are more to make it easier to play or less costly if a mistake is made. Nothing major just maybe some extra cc resistance or shortened cooldowns.

There's more to tanking than just holding aggro. Yes ice is more forgiving but if the player is a bad tank it will be very apparent.
  17. Vulmyss Dedicated Player

I'm saying with ice it is easier to cover these mistakes and not be effected by them. If a fire tank makes a mistake it's a problem.
Holding aggro is a main part of being a tank. Positioning and knowledge are important too.
  18. Cream Corn New Player

We take way more damage than shields can possibly block in t5 raids. Knowing when to use shields in a basic manner(just to take less damage) and knowing when to use shields to not die from a big attack is very important. Tanks need to pretty much memorize the raid and understand what attacks can be taken and what can't. Also how to deal with certain situations and learn when those attacks are coming so you have time to react before it happens.

The mistakes are still not covered. If a tank gets knocked down the healer has to heal more no matter what power it is. An ice tank who shields at the wrong moment or doubles up on shields that cancel each other will go down just as fast as a fire tank who doesn't block or an earth tank who got interrupted during an aftershock.
