Flipping powers from boredom is one thing...FOTM hoppers are a whole different thing. New power is OP...the FOTM jumpers are there. Every time.
It's not fair to say there are a lot of assumptions so far, but make it seem as though they all come from one side of the argument. I think if I were being fair I would say there have been a lot of assumptions by both sides
The main reason I don't like "FotM" hoppers is because they paint a bad image for everyone who uses that power. The attitudes these players generally tend to have; they act like they're so much better than everyone and overall have unpleasant demeanors and ect. I've been using light for years now because I absolutely love anything lantern related, and Lately I always get called out as being a Scorecard chaser. But scorecards don't matter to me personally, i just am there to get the job done so i can get what i came for and move on. But excessive powerhoppers are different; They don't care about the power or learning how to use it effectively, they care about what hits the hardest with the most ease of use, and all it takes is for someone to upload a Youtube video of a power on test, title it "X power BEAST LOADOUT 2015" and you'll have a billion people rushing to the marketplace at breakneck speeds. Its quite annoying. I also feel like its a statement made clearly about the community. Nature is an good power yet so few people play it because its not easy like some of the others, it has a present learning curve And ppeople want whatevers easiest and performs decently. And when they get that they go parading like they're holier than thou and stuff. Kinda like fairweather fans imo. Also, FoTM players are usually the first to either try to get something nerfed for whatever reason, or switch to whatever power outperformed them. Its been ridiculous as of late, i've been seeing people switch powers in the middle of the raids. That said, there's no problem with people trying out new things. Its your moolah, do as you please with it. But even still, when something suddenly becomes extremely popular suddenly, odds are thats a red flag. How quantum became the number 1 most played power for t6+players almost literally overnight is no coincidence. Its a decent power and its simple to use, so ofcourse the people who only care about numbers have been switching for that very reason.
You are correct. But you only get suckered into that if you are a scoreboard chaser. Since the PVE component of the game is team based it shouldn't matter if a player is topping the board or not. I have played Gadgets since launch 4 years ago and never changed. Good post!
Because it's like 'if you had faith in what you were doing yesterday you'd make that thing work', instead, you're off to the next new thing and sure, it's new, that might be part of the reason why, but when you're switching from something directly into a top tier power, it says that you're chasing numbers, not the experience.
I dislike many things in this world but this subject contains 2 of them: I. Bandwagons (and by proxy unoriginality) II. Dishonor (like people who only care about victory at any cost) When i make a Toon they have a purpose and a powerset in mind. Their intention is never to chase a score or be super OP. Each one is there to give me the chance to experience the concept i made for them. I bought FftL so that i could be a Yellow Lantern, i bought Origin Crisis so i could manipulate time, i bought WotL pt 1 so i could be a Red Lantern...i did not obtain these DLCs or aim for the powers based on what their stats were or what some Bandwagoner on Youtube said was the best way to "win at the game". Even if they nerf HL into the dirt and every other power becomes 100% better i will not switch because i chose that power because im a fan...and i cannot fathom the motivations of those who do switch Does this answer your question?
I know of 1 FotM player. Changing powers isn't a bad thing at all, someone in my league has switched through all the tank powers in years previous and recently gone Earth-Sorcery-Ice. He's always worked with us as a group, been very helpful still and aided the group through content. FotM players (as a whole) come with 2 mentalities: 1) need to be the best power, they won't put time and effort into it they just take 5 minutes to find a loadout and then that's them sorted. Even if the loadout is the worst one going they won't care. 2) Win at all costs and be the top of the leaderboard at all costs. They are also often the ones to first point the finger when things start to go wrong and they can't burn through the content in the blink of an eye. The childish switching between powers because one is the new "thing" is mildly annoying, I think the attitude that comes with most of them is the worst part of FotM players.
I hate this so much. Seeing all these fire scrubs desecrate my power...how embarrassing. This is pretty much why the stigma of fire tanks being weak continues to persist.
Every mmo has this .... theres a class that the devs focus on and make really bad *** but then when people use it and test it , they like it , people that arent playing it call it fotm. its been happening since 03 with swg, heck even before that ,with ultima and eq1, theres always FOTM haters. and always will be
I think the backlash is from 2 things.. 1 - People who used to kick Quantum DPS because their damage wasn't up to par and used to bad mouth Quantum players have now switched to it 2 - People are switching to Quantum to glitch Throne Just my opinion
