well...I think it's pretty safe to say that more than just a small portion of the FOTM switchers think of themselves as being among the best players in the game, while in fact they are just using the best power...this misconception is something I don't like when I see it. Like (just for example) current quantum DPSes that call celestial players "N0000000B DPS!!!!!" or start votes to kick because they did 1kk less than them...
You sort of got it in my opinion But my biggest gripe is... that people who do like an under performing powerset and make it work to the best of it's abilities before it gets an update... (Earth maybe someday) then everyone flicks to it I de they find out something was missed during the update... They exploit that one little thing that najes it do absurd damage... People start complaining on other powersets that are getting beat... And they don't just adjust that thing that's getting exploited to bring it in line... They nerf it to the ground... The fotm people flock elsewhere and those who are loyal are left with a power set that's now broken and they have to re adjust a play style ... Fotm players are poison for powersets.. They are what causes constant adjustments and overhauls... Im okay as earth about 95% of the time ... I sometimes switch to ice to switch it up .. I do just as much damage if not more on my wm earth load out then I do using anything ice has to offer,.. I'm not switching to chase score boards... Before those accusations..start flying... The only time Ive ever switched to a powerset that was considered op was celestial ... I loved celestial dpsing it was fun and fit my needs for my character that I created I prefer a meta type character who uses energy to be super strong tank like and leather damage like... Problem with celestial is its a healer power .. I can't heal well ... But I like to dual role tank/dps so I had to go vack to earth ... Leaving a then op power set to one of the worst in game to satisfy my tanking needs... Earth got buffed but luckily at the time everyone was doing similar danage with wm that the variety of dos was larger and not too many people flocked to earth to do the same thing they could do on their curren powerset and save them a respec token... I pray if an when the update earth again they make it perform as good but not better as other powersets do we don't get nerfed back to 2012 I don't have a problem with folks curious about a new power and wanting to try it.. But it's when ppl flock cause a power set is op and get it nerfed is when I take issue... I will be switching to serums when it cones out saying it now before we know anything about it..ive been begging for a super strength powerset as long as I've bern playing the gsme earths the only thing I can be to "live" that experience... When it drops op or not I'm there ...
Most the other complaints about fotm powers don't bother me indent care if they gave no skill and copy and paste a beat youtube load out none of that bothers me its when they cause use the destruction of a powerset that irks me
Well, you seem like someone who could actually answer the op's question. So, why do you hate FotM players?
I guess since I'm not a sports fan in general, other than being a huge UFC fan, I never did understand all the hate that garnered (especially the seemingly overkill of media attention it got as well). I mean isn't it okay to be a fan of a particular player or are people suppose to only be a fan of a particular team?
I switch powers every once in a while but then go back to Nature. Does that make me FOTM chaser? And no i didnt touch Quantum but i will go back Celestial GU 45.
It's ok to be a fan of a current player, I have many friends that are fans of the team that they're favorite player is on, the difference between them is that they don't call themselves a fan of that team. Its a glaring difference, they would say something like "Im only a Lebron fan". They don't "claim" the team he's on as they're team. That I can respect. Im a huge fan of particular players of all sports but once they play my favorite team that i been cheering for since I was a kid then I him to lose. Thats just the way I always felt about it at least.
Because usually bad dps players will switch to the FOTM to stay competitive, then it causes an influx of X power which then becomes the only power groups will want to dps, which will lead to people complaining calling for nerfs and other things, then the X power gets nerfed FOTM players switch back and leave the non FOTM players, who liked using X power before any buff to it, a power that is sub par. In the end the development team makes a lot of money on respec tokens and a lot of players are left with a sour experience. But this has been the cycle since the first dlc. Probably won't change anytime soon.
Many think those who only play a FotM powers tend to be posers, who play what's overpowered at the moment because they worry more about the scoreboard than playing what they like, and don't get attached or as dedicated to their power/role.
I don't care what people do with their power. And if the devs really do intentionally buff powers to sell respec tokens, I say good. If they get an influx of money because people want to be on top of the scoreboard, that only helps the game. My problem with FotM players is when the power eventually gets fixed, or "nerfed" as they would say, and they start complaining about how bad the power is now. "Nerfed into the ground". "Totally useless now". "Just buff ALL the powers to match mine". Then you get the crazy posts. "The devs are idiots". "The devs don't know what they're doing". "I just uninstalled the game/ended my subscription". Also, in PVP, when you get FotM powers or weapons, and people just spam the hell out of certain moves, it's just plain irritating.
Just to be clear, I'm talking about the negativity towards the players themselves who switch to these powers/weapons etc. I'm not referring to the actual practice of things becoming FotM. That's on the devs.
+1 with it happening in PVP. Which is normal in any competitive videogame. Only thing is it makes fights so bland. Not much diversity. Once all the AM's are out and proper maybe things will change from the Wolf - Light show in PVP we have now.
FotM players are in for the win nothing more 75% I think, those are the same people who burn through contents like its they last day alive, then complain theres nothing to do, those are the ones who are stressing our developers out. So sad.
if someone wants to change to the current power that is OP so be it its their choice its pretty easy to teell who they are just by putting em next to someone who knows what they are actually doing
I see a lot of assumptions so far. Not everybody who wants to play the new/updated powers fits the descriptions that most of you are saying. Most of the issues I see mentioned are pug related as well.
A guy I know is a FOTM player. He's normally HL but he changed to Nature when they did the most recent update to the HL AM(which "ruined HL" according to him). He found out he would keep dying due to being all up in the tank's (my) face. He switched back to HL in about 3 days. Then the Ice update came out and he got beat by an Ice DPS so he switched to Ice. Now usually in raids I'm helpful and will stop DPSing to pick someone up or make calls/give advice and whatnot. One particular night I walked over all freshly dead corpses like he does and beat him with Fire. He actually stopped playing mid-raid and came back the next day as HL again basically just to beat me. Not to mention he'll always throw it in people's face that he's top DPS. Now I personally don't mind as much because this kid's actually like 13, but I could really see how annoying it could be if a grown man was acting like that. He's already declared his intent to change to Celestial next month, and I'm waiting on the day I log on and he's quantum
Because FOTM power jumpers don't stay with a power long enough to learn the secrets of unlocking true potential. A combat legend put it best: "I do not fear the man who has practiced 1000 different kicks. I fear the man who has practiced ONE kick, 1000 times." --Bruce Lee
Some people just like to switch powers when it gets boring. I was quantum then rage then earth then celestial then quantum again. Thinking bout gadgets next -.-
