Greetings DCUO DEVELOPMENT TEAM, I have a few changes in my mind for two of Rage's abilities which i would really like to share with everyone else and which i think will make Rage power as a whole even better then it already is! The first one is for "Plasma Retch" and the second one is for "Galling Eruption". For "Plasma Retch" i would like to know if it would be possible to change it's behavior so it can be clipped by other powers such as the weapon buff and for "Galling Eruption" if it would be possible to change it's area of effect from underneath the player's feet to underneath the desired target's feet? I am asking this because Plasma Retch is Rage's only ability that can apply the power interaction from a safe distance and not being able to clip with like i mentioned earlier the weapon buff empowered by for example Starfire as an ally it makes using these two abilities together very slow compared to other powers and as for Galling Eruption the only way to use it and benefit from it's damage and it's power interaction is for you to stand right in the middle of the action which let's be honest is not the place you'd want to be in elite or elite+ content so yeah if you guys can take a look at these two abilities it would be really nice. I absolutely love this game and that is why i always try to find ways to improve on it so please let me know in the comments below what you guys think about these changes and let's help the developers make rage even more fun than it already is. Gailing eruption, I think it is pretty good how it acts. I think Violence is better. Plasma retch though, clipping would be GREAT for that! Couple work-around ideas for now though, that work. You can jump, for example, at the end of dreadful blast, jump, while in air cast plasma, then when you land, it cuts the animation. Jumping right after casting and then hitting triangle, also cancels. There's also grim pet.
As much as i like the idea behind Grim which instantly applies the power interaction depending on your power set sadly there are other arts out there that are way better and as for jumping to cancel Plasma Retches animation it will for sure speed up things a little bit but it still won't be the same as being able to clip it. Also regarding Galling Eruption if changing it's spawning location would be too difficult to adjust because then they would have to change it's casting animation as well then why not instead of all that keep the casting animation and it's area of effect as it is and have it spawn in front of the player rather than all around the player!
I'm with ya on grim. I only use that artifact on my range loadout for rage, which I hardly ever use: maybe a boss that has a lot of AOE, like Neron. Yes, that jump cancel will really speed you up. Once you get the process down fast: plasma, jump, triangle, cast dreadful, you can usually be hitting the second part of the dreadful combo as you land from the jump. It also helps to have dreadful on a triangle button (if ps) so you didn't have to move your finger through your process of that cancel and combo, except from x to triangle. Even though I think gailing works fine and looks fine, it doesn't matter to me if it gets changed, unless it becomes useful then. A 12 sec DoT that is stationary, is not as effective as a 12 sec DoT that is attached to a moving character. Violence really is the best power to use, to apply plasma, for a melee character. The only other possible substitution that I use, is relentless anger, for the SC generation.
I ran into this situation with my ally Zatanna. Trying to find a way to inflict the PI just for her buffs... I am running a very dangerous set of artifacts that require me to battle tank at this point, however, even as a DPS, even using Grim, she does not interact with Grim... So this is quite the dilemma as the dynamics of the game slowly evolve. I had always used relentless anger because, up until recently, I was doing a supercharge build. I have gone away from that method. Personally, I wouldn't mind leaving those powers mentioned alone if it meant we could get ragebringer and without mercy to apply the PI. Perhaps I am biased but I think the pulls should be applying the PI. As it stands, I believe that only four powers apply the PI: violence, galling eruption, plasma retch, and relentless anger. Only one, perhaps two of these, are useful for tanking, and same goes for DPS.
The thing is i want to use the weapon buff in my loadout together with Starfire as an ally and because i have no ability that can apply the power interaction from a safe distance that can be clipped by the weapon buff i am kind of forced to either use grimorium and lose damage by not using better arts or risk my neck with galling eruption which is really very hard to use mainly because you have to be very close to the bosses which in many cases is a guaranteed death due to how the mechanics and the bosses attacks are designed.
Oh, for bosses you can't melee, try this: Transformation, Quizlet, grim. Heat vision (jump cancel, tap triangle) dreadful blast combo clipped to channel hate (cancel with triangle when Dreadful is ready again). Robot sidekick, Word of Power, and the 6th spot is free for your weapon buff for Starfire.
I am currently using Ebon/Grimorium/Omega as arts, House Of Legends Bot/Starfire/John Stewart as allies and as for my loadout i am using Dreadful Blast/Frenetic Bombardment/Robot Sidekick/Bloodlust/Omega/Neo-Venom Boost but right now i am trying Ebon/Transformation/Omega and Dreadful Blast/Frenetic Bombardment/Robot Sidekick/Bloodlust/Omega/Galling Eruption and on single target i am doing above 4 million damage in 10 seconds parser which is better then the previous setup but the problem is galling eruption is difficult to apply because i have to be very close to the ads and bosses!
On the contrary, I always run elite as melee with rage. The secret is to use severe punishment and powers that cancel crash.
It's true that Rage has more melee based abilities than range and i agree with you, i too would like to see more range options for Rage but let's not forget that some powers have only 1 combo ability for both melee and range ex: water, earth which is a bummer because spamming the same ability over and over again eventually gets boring. Putting that aside what rage really needs right now is a range ability that can apply the plasma burn power interaction which can be clipped by other powers such as the weapon buff "bloodlust" or Rage's main ability "severe punishment" and the only two that i can think of are "plasma retch" or rage's multi target pull "ragebringer". I would also like and i've said this before if they could change "galling eruption's" spawning area from all around you to in front of you to help you apply "plasma burn" from a safe distance in dps role but then i realized that this will take away it's effect in tank role where if you stand in the plasma the damaged caused by rage crash is significantly reduced so i came up with another solution to simply increase it's range to cover even more ground than it already does like maybe double it or something like that.
The best way to dps with rage melee is clearly from behind the bosses and ads but the problem is some bosses or ads have a 360 degree attacks that can instantly kill you even with "Severe Punishment" active. Maybe if "Severe Punishment" would increase your health by 50% in dps role the same way it increases your defense by 50% in tank role than yeah you could take rage to a whole new level and be comfortable to melee dps any boss or add in the game. In pvp though for the sake of balancing things leave "Severe Punishment" as it is otherwise it will be too overpowered. Another thing that is also a huge risk as a rage melee dps is when the effect of "Severe Punishment" wears off and you are left with 4 seconds when you are completely vulnerable to enemies attacks so maybe come up with an Ally such as Atrocitus who has the passive ability to further increase the duration of "Severe Punishment" from 8 seconds to 12 seconds making rage in pve for both tank and dps roles really unstoppable, of course with the risk of getting interrupted and failing to cancel your rage crash still present. Atrocitus as an ally could have the passive to increase the "severe punishment's" duration by 0,5 seconds per level starting from level 2 and above reaching a total of 4 seconds by level 10.
Rage was designed as a "high risk, high reward" melee powerset. If you don't have the guts to go melee - don't play Rage, or accept that you will be falling a bit behind powersets, that don't have OP mechanics like Berserk SC and Severe Punishment..
Precisely. Rage is, high risk = high reward. 4 seconds is not much to worry about with the right setup. Have a personal heal running, like remorseless recovery, which helps cover that 4 seconds. Breakout recovery. Weapon shield or heal if needed: then just tap range for a quick fix. I have, I think (not on my system at moment), about 900k health. So I don't worry to much until I lose about half without being able to recover. Roll out for a couple seconds (the healer has you covered already), back in, and you're still forking out massive damage. Keeping supply drop in slot helps too. Once you're in close range long enough, you start learning to watch for dangerous attacks, and making sure you're prepared. Especially when you're a tank power, that should already be watching for bosses to block or do something you can interrupt them on. Neron is a perfect example. He has a powerful AOE attack, but if the tank lunges at the right time, you can stop his attack.
I know what you're saying but still i think it would be very cool to have Severe Punishment last for 12 seconds oh and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic!
Can we please also have "Frenetic Bombardment" ignore the damage caused by the rage crash while performing the combo?
Greetings, DCUO TEAM Dear developers do you think it would be too much to ask to allow rage's "Plasma Retch" to be clipped by rage's "Bloodlust", "Severe Punishment", "Remorseless Recovery", "Ire" and "Redirected Rage"? Please guys i am asking you as nice as i can this will help rage players so so very much especially with applying the "plasma burn" power interaction from a safe distance while taking advantage of all of those powers i mentioned earlier!
