Been a while since I seen the original series I've just been following the rebuilds 1.11 2.22 exct. Well I'm watching 3.33 now and I'm very confused why is everybody so angry at shinji? Theres many more questions I have but is this an alternate reality? I barely remember 2.0 but I thought he rejected instrumentality? Random stuff I know but if anybody here is a fan please elaborate
I originally bought and watched the Evangelion anime, followed by 2.0, I then read the Evangelion manga and I realised that I never should have touched the anime. The anime is a pale reflection of the manga, they deviate from the original source way too much so the story is overly convoluted and wrong, 3.0 has gone even further - you spend a lot of time trying to dissect and understand what is going on in the anime which dilutes the original plot, a lot of inconsistencies.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/ Go to the Critical Miss webcomic, and check out the May 10th comic. It's a bit on the NSFW side, so I'm playing it safe and not posting a direct link. But it's a funny little take on the whole Evangelion saga, as is the follow-up in the next comic.
I was a huge Neon Genesis Evangelion fan around 10 years ago but haven't watched the series in quite awhile. I've never read the manga though, but based on Anhur's response maybe I should. Based on what I've read everyone is mad at Shinji because after the 5th Angel defeat he ran away and has been asleep for the past 14 years. This makes a few people irritated with him.
They actually made the TV anime story first and started making the manga story later on...but due to TV production delays, the manga was released first.
