DCUO and AFKing

Having done the Halloween Seasonal on multiple toons I've noticed that 2 out of 4 times there's always someone who just ques into the Alert and stands around doing nothing. The Devs really have to revisit how rewards are given to players because this is completely unfair. The fact that obviously there are individuals who with multiple toons and multiple accounts just que up certain content mainly Seasonal Events and with no damage at all can just get the Alert's loot is nuts. It's practically stealing. There should be some way to have it set that if a player is not moving and doesn't get a certain amount of damage or healing they get no rewards from that mission. Just putting any AFKer in a group on your Ignore list doesn't solve the problem. There's too many of them. It feels like with the population of DCUO it feels like 1 out of 5 players purposely AFK go away from their controls and just do nothing get rewarded. I've seen more and more of these players every year. I'll purposely hang around a player who isn't moving so they'll take damage from Adds and they'll run off to get away from enemy mobs so it's not like they're even absent they're just not choosing to help out in the instance. Their are several players in this game willing to not help out but wanting to get rewarded for doing nothing and it's getting to be too much. Certainly the Devs can update instances so that if a player leaves their console or computer during an Alert, Duo or Raid they a) don't get rewarded for any bosses taken out that they didn't help with b) they'll be taken out of the instance quicker while idle and c) the group can vote to kick that member out quicker. Hopefully down the line there's an update to rectify all these AFK players because it's getting ridiculous.

We can hope they'll do something, but those AFKers are exploiting the 5-monite delayed, not while in combat kick limitations which were put in place due to griefing/abusive kicking, so ultimately letting AFKers add to all the detrimental aspects of the community is considered the lesser of 2 evils.

Which is a rather appropriate analogy, no matter what happens, there's a downside with this community, either through exploitation or abuse in one form or another.

Queue in solo with private queue, solves the issue completely. Or grab a buddy and duo it. Solo it takes a bit longer, but if there are 2 squatters anyway, it doesn't take THAT much longer. Make sure you pack a shield, as being solo, you do get quite a bit of harassment when trying to carry/throw the crystals.

Obviously, that won't work for low level farmers, but for decent endgame toons, it is well worth the time to not have the frustration of some dingus standing there doing inventory while you do the work.

Now...on Leshy or the Evac mission....unfortunately, those AFK'ers are just part of life.always have been...always will be.

Honestly, I get more annoyed at the people who click the charm to banish the ghosts but don't pick it up. It does nothing if a player is not holding it besides time out. Yet every year 90% of my runs includes some smartypants who clicks and pewpews anyway.

It's been a issue for some time now every seasonal if you can't take a buddy or two and private que what I do is add the lazy bums to ignore and reque when I'm off work I have time to spare . But never give in and give them a free ride lol I remember when me and two of my friends que up not a private que and we got someone who was trying to pull that hahahaha. It was amusing we started to play his game after we told him either move and help or we join you over here Buddy. He got the message and started to put his work in .

I think private que is the way to go or bring a friend because I REFUSE to carry any slackers you can que up fast enough but don't want to help pftttt **** with that crap.

If this is your biggest annoyance in a seasonal run, you are leading a charmed life.;)

Makes more sense than complaining about afkers who add less than 5 minutes to the run.

Good point:p , but pushing the button on the trinket, then not carrying it adds 0 time to the run, and at least those players are doing something...not just standing there. I personally just ignore the thing...as Klarion will generally be down by the time all the ghosts would be absorbed.

This complaint comes up practically every seasonal event. And, they have done things that address the issue:
    • They've nerfed most of them. This one used to be much more difficult at low levels before stat scaling.
    • Private queue. You've always been able to make a premade, but now you can queue with less than four people, or even by yourself.
    • Open entrance. Anyone who joins the instance, if someone dies, or someone had to go open the door irl or something, the portal is no longer temporary.
I don't want them to take away the ability to carry people. In the last almost-15 years of this game, there have been so many new parents in my league or in sister leagues that I can't count the number of times someone had to afk while we carried them while they dealt with a baby emergency.

Myself, particularly this year, I've banked a lot on the load-in/cutscene/load-in/cutscene to go run and do something, then get in to the instance a little late.

Unless it's a premade, I can see someone who literally has all zeros on the scorecard being left out of the loot, but honestly, I rarely see it happen across 12 toons playing the instance. Maybe a couple of times a year. I just add them to ignore at the end and move on. I've probably spent more time reading posts complaining about it, and responding, than I've been impacted. It's not worth it to me for devs to spend time on something that's a community issue at heart, and a minor one.

people stand there and do nothing because they're burnt out of a PVE only MMO. The game should have a balance of PVP and PVE content when content is released.

An easy fix to the situation is a ranking gear system PVE is for loot PVP is for XP. Overhaul the stats on op gear and rank 200 arts bigtime and allow us to wear all arts for our roles and allies. This is a massive game with alot of content nobody should be able to skip the gear system. Bring new artifact ranks each episode and gear ranks to grind lose the old gear system asap

If only dcuo knew how to do a pve only mmo people wouldn't be standing around like that
  11. Multiverse What time is it? Game time.

Played the event for a few weeks with a dozen characters.... right now only playing it with a handful of characters.

In all those runs.... people being AFK with 0 0 0 0 on the Scoreboard happened maybe twice???
So.... not sure if that is really an issue.

Just for grins, I queued in solo yesterday until I had one with a squatter. Only took 3 queue ins. Now...if I had ran on 10 more toons, would it have happened 10 more...or 0 more times? Don't know...don't care. I will continue to private queue my seasonals.

    ???
You can Private Queue all you like.
No one is stopping you. ;)

But when something happens 0.5% of the time....
    pretty easy to ignore.

Now... maybe I am just lucky?? ;) ;)
  14. Reinheld Devil's Advocate

Didn't say I couldn't or you would care. Just saying, if you are not aggravated by squatters, GOOD NEWS!, there will be more of them for you as they WON'T be in any of my runs (unless they are also me on alts...the only squatters I like:D).

BTW. .5% would be 1 in 200 runs...I doubt it is that low for anyone. You hit 1 in a dozen, that's more like 8% of the time. I hit one in 3, which is more like 33%. I'd guess it's somewhere between those 2 numbers.

I did not hit 1 in a dozen....

I hit one or two in dozens. ;)

    Roughly 12runs x 7 the first week = 84
    Roughly 12 x 7 the second week = 84
    Roughly 8 x 7 the third week = 56
    roughly 6 x 4 this week = 24
    grand total = 248 runs
Could be a bit more..... first day I might have run with 14 Alts... but just a rough guesstimation. ;)

So if it happened once or twice in roughly 248 runs.... 0.5% was a quick guesstimation.
    Once it would be 0.4032258064516129
    Twice would be 0.8064516129032258
Unless we make hundreds of runs and record the numbers.....
it will remain a guestimation. ;)

1 in 3 seems hard to believe to me.
Or 2 out of 4 like the OP.

It is a rare occurrence as far as I can see...
not saying it does not happen....
but it is a rare thing as far as I know.

    Been playing for 14 years....
Always saw people complain about this....
Never saw more then a couple of AFKers each year.

Could it be a platform things??
If on Switch there are 12 players.... if only 1 of them is a Squatter.... then sure you could end up having 1 Squatter every 2 runs.
If you play on USPS5 with 53 000 000 players..... even if we had 100 Squatters it would still be a rare thing???
Maybe people should mention their platform??
Maybe some issues are platform specific??

    Again.....
if you want to solo queue it..... that is fine.
if you prefer to solo it.... you do have the option to do so....
As long as you have fun playing it solo... that is all that matters. ;)

I don't like Squatters.... not even my Alts. ;) ;)
But it is rare enough that when it happens.... does not really matter.
  16. Reinheld Devil's Advocate

1 in 3 is not hard to imagine...I had it last night and DID pay attention to it for the experiment. Bad luck? Maybe...but I'd guess it's more average than 1 in 200.

And yes...it happens SO infrequently, that it's a complaint EVERY seasonal. It's sooooo infrequent that they ended up changing the Stabilizer Duo to a solo. Cause only 1 time in several 1,000 it happened there too. Honestly, I'm not sure how you'd develop an 'I don't like squatters' opinion if you personally almost never see it. If it only happened to me 1 in 1000's of times, I'd chalk it up to the doorbell rang, the kid puked on the floor or Mr Sandman took the player away during the cutscene rather than purposeful squatting...it is a long...double cutscene...after all. Of course, it is funny that the door visitor has always left, the kid is feeling better and the nappy time is over 10 seconds AFTER the scorecard comes up and the squatter leaves...but I'm sure that's ALSO just being imagined.

Honestly, I'd say it's more likely you just aren't noticing, or they are doing just a bit at the beginning or end to NOT be 0000. It would only take an orbital or Ally to register a decent number on the board and that's only 1 button push.

BTW...I never said they had to do anything about it, so I'm not sure why you are getting your panties in a bunch. It's just a fact of life in this game, and I've always had a work around...now easier than ever. I don't 100% always use it, but more times than not I do. It was more just a statement on the game and our players. You disagree...that's cool. Enjoy almost NEVER seeing them at Xmas either.:D

Lazy players are only a problem for the few who use many characters daily; PvP isn't fixed for the few players who enjoy that game mode; complaints about the experience required for artifacts come from only a few; the ridiculous capsule RNG only bothers the few who feel the need to complete everything; the lack of incentive in older content is only a problem for the few players who want to start; the lack of chat moderation is only a problem for a few thin-skinned players; the current lollipop difficulty is only a problem for a few elitists; the lack of communication with players only bothers a few; the outdated style/base item system is only a problem for a few decorators/cosplayers... and in the end, only a few (addicts?) are left playing :)

I just want the ignore function to be account wide and trust me I do not care if it limits my q. If your on my ignore list I don't want to run with you and I will try to kick you. Sadly we have to keep track of players we add to insta kick forum in are discord. It has like 4 people listed.

Wow. Those 4 must have done something really REALLY wrong to be the sole members of that group.

I remember last year it wasn't as bad as it is now this time I don't know what the hell is going on hahaha hahaha. All I can say is thank goodness for private ques and bring a buddy or two no need to carry folks who's objective is to only stand there and move a few itches.
