DCU, the console mmo in 2018 & beyond

Have been guilty of alluding to this, but I think the claims of DCU's demise are far-fetched. I do see DCU becoming a console mmo past 2018. DCU has been an enigma on the PC. Many have come from CoX, and DCU is a farcry from CoX. With the other super hero mmo beta in 2018. The PC will be a ghost town.

I am not saying DCU will fade, just the pc side. I think the console side will still go strong. In 2018 and beyond, DC will have the console player base, while the others will have the pc players.

The PC servers are populated, there are a lot of players who play on PC. Don't think there is a reason\chance DCUO will become a console game only.

There will always be PC players who play the game with us. I am a PS4 player and I am hoping that they never ditch the cross platform aspect. While it is annoying when a PC player is using clear-cut exploits, it is not the end of the world to me, and it is definitely not enough to justify removing them. If only DCUO could breach the gap between Microsoft, Sony, and the "EU" servers... If only... It would definitely help restore the population a bit. I know that it will not happen. Ever. But I think it is beyond cool that DCUO had PS3/PS4/PC all together. Whereas a game like GTA V Online may not have restricted players based on location (No EU or US, just everyone) it was not cross platform. Even PS3 was unable to interact with PS4.

As much as I may wish that they would cross the servers up I already know one issue that would prevent it forever. The character names. The simple solution would be to implement some system that determined who had the name first, but simple solutions are sometimes overlooked here on this game. I assume that alone would incite quite a rage from the player base. I know that the very moment I posted my primary character's name in my signature there was someone who made my name on the EU servers within a week (Shame on you btw). Not just my name but the exact capitalization and everything else associated with it. Basically a full blown carbon copy. Stuff like that may keep those barriers up forever, but at least I landed on the right side of that fence from the sounds of it.

Trust me when I say that DCUO needs all the players that it can get.

Not all PC players use exploits. While some do, It's not all. Yes it is great that we can play PC with PS4 (Though I own PS4) aswell
and play DCUO there aswell along with other games, I mostly play on my PC since all my progress is there, and my friends some on PC and some on PS. I would miss out on dear friends if we didn't have PC&PS united (EU and US servers).

Definetelly there will always be PC players, people keep saying the game will die because another game launched, well, the population may decrease for some time but that's not what kills the playerbase.
Sorry but my eyes are bleeding. Thats NOT the issue, they already did exactly what you said to cross ps4/pc, and it was even more complex and looked at all aspects, and they also gave the guy a respec name token to change it (obviously). And no1 could care less about it.
The problem is technology, not DCUO's tech, but the entire world tech. Until we change the fiber cables to something faster, there will be a high time for the data to travel (ping) between the countries, and thats what prevent the games from having a mega server of the entire world (besides the problems it may cause if they don't know the maximum population they hardware can take care of or don't have enough money to handle it), not that it would affect a lot DCUO, but duels and PvP would be completelly ****** up, also EU players would have lag in PvE content. A mega server should only happen in a emergency, because having a bad experience can be better than stop playing due to small populatin for many guys.

What's the point of all this baseless speculation??? What are you trying to get at with this??? If the PC side of the game were in danger of getting shut down they would just announce it like they have for the PS3. This whole thread screams of boredom...

Well, the reason I’m here is the DC Comics IP; so I’m not going anywhere unless I’m pushed out.

    DCU - DC Universe
MMO - acronym of the acronym MMORPG meaning Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game
    PC - Personal Computer
    BETA - Beta test
COX - no idea what this is

CoX= City of X, where X stands for several of the eXpansions since the game started as City of Heroes, then City of Villains came which at first was a separate expansion that didn't require City of Heroes. After that came City of Heroes: Going Rogue, which covered heroes going bad, and bad guys becoming anti-heroes, and mercenaries.[/quote]

DCUO should seek another platforns so that they will no longer depend only the consoles. We have Android, Chorme OS, Linux just to mention some examples of which platforms they could reach out.

Which is my point, most people commenting do not know what CoX is. They are just rushing to defend the game, some may not even play on pc. DCUO is not popular with the pc gamer playerbase. How many legit top flight Youtubers are streaming DCUO? DCU is not were the money is at, in regards to streamers or top grossing mmo. It is not a hit on Steam neither, a big-time pc platform. The other top revenue titles are huge on Steam.

BDO, one of my favs is number 27. DCU is in the negative range, actually losing players over here. Not even the shinest of knightys will say DCU can compete with other pc mmo. These charts pretty much detail that. For us pc players, Steam is convenient; therefore there is zero reason to play through the official launcher. There are also Steam achievements associated with playing through Steam. Steam also has these huge pop up sales.

There is no-way DCU's pc base will withstand new super hero mmo using unreal 4/pc only. DCU will fade when "X" releases was narrow minded. The better more realistic/factual argument is DCU's, pc population will be servery damaged by pc titles. That has actually happened....

I find groups in CO que quicker than DCU. The average wait time for even lower level ques is around 1 minute if that. On the PC side in DCU, I have my on que while playing another game.

That "other" superhero MMO(s) looks like steaming hot garbage top to bottom. I don't see it/them as competition to DCUO let alone any kind of threat. Combat is lame, animations are stiff, this has Batman and Superman, game over.

Exact. Plus why would PC be put in the same box as PS3? If anything PC will always have better hardware than consoles. Even if the player base is lower on PC, no company in their right mind would kill off an X amount of their income/player base if there is no technical reason for it (and since cross platform already exists, this point it moot as well).

A lot of the people playing DCUO for its ip on all 3 platforms. CoX is no DC so it lacks the DC ip and therefore unappealing to some. I started the game myself just because of the ip not because it was an MMO or for its combat or whatever. Also time and money investment will always return some abandoned childs over the time and CoX combat is really that outdated. Not that DCs combat is refreshing but at least it doesnt gives me a throwback feeling into the 90s.

Or to sum it up, it won't die on PC just because of another game. We had that the past 7 years and it will continue for another 7 years for PC. It's like a super bad version of Dinner for One.

Well, I ask you, if the IP were so appealing, why is DCU in the dumps on PC compared to other mmo? I posted the numbers, some may cry "Steam does not account for everybody" Well, we don't need to. Even playing field, other mmo such as TERA & Warframe have official launchers as-well.

There are top grossing mmo towards the top of that chart. This chart is very indicative of the mmo market.

For 2 reasons. First DCUO dropped the ball so many many times and the playerbase harbors a lot of resentment that can't be undone among it's core playerbase. Secondly it is very outdated looking in comparison to games like BDO etc. There are definitely good MMOs that can (and have) take this game's playerbase that are more modern, but it won't be those superhero ones coming up. I had really hoped the upcoming superhero MMOs were promising so that DCUO would be forced to up their game and start putting out a more quality product but they're really, REALLY sad looking. DCUO will still be king of it's genre (superhero MMO) and rest on it's laurels.
