Daybreak Bring back the option to earn Stabilizers via Episode 45

Why did Daybreak remove the ability to earn 16+ stabilizers from Dakota every week? This is the silliest decision they've made in a long time. (Yes, I know it wasn't intentional to have it that way, but it was a blessing in disguise.)

The only reason anyone can think of why they'd remove it is because "it would cost them money" and this is objectively false, and I can prove it.

How long is a single boss rotation. Generally 25-30 minutes, correct?

You get 60 of the currency per full run.

People generally keep playing until a full run so that's two rotations which is about fifty minutes to an hour for a $1 stabilizer.

    Now multiply that by 16.

By allowing players to earn a stabliizer per Character is an additional 15-16+ hours of play time per week per player.

Are you telling me that a POTENTIAL $16 is worth more than a player being on for an additional 16 hours?

It gets better; The players with more than the 16 character cap are generally the folks whom spend the most money on the game. More time in the game is more chances to have them spend more money on the game.

If you change it back then it's a WIN/WIN/WIN situation.

    TL;DR

    1. Makes Stabilizers earnable, to a degree, which will make players see that as a generous action.

    2. More playtime = more opportunities to sell things.

    3. Making a change at the request of the players is good optics and show you listen to the player base.

It was a bug that was never intended to be 1 per character per week.

You want more stabilizers? Pay them for it. They need the revenue and support to sustain the business, so you can keep playing. Your math is all hypothetical, and the price of single time character slot increases is nowhere near comparable to continuous revenue from consumables.

What a smoking gun theory we've been hearing here for years, if that were the case, do you think the subscription would have become so secondary?

Already several DLCs planned in advance, the shenanigans done with artifacts in the beginning, plus lootboxes which is the most lucrative revenue for a video game, no new power since 2017, it's obvious they're clearly not out of money, the video game industry is one of the industries that rakes in the most money easily for x years.

This is actually hilarious. So you think the guy that is so cheap that he puts in a 16 hour grind instead of spending 16 bucks... is the one that marketing team should target and prioritize? LOOOL

Lol.. You know a lot about how game industry works, huh?... So maybe tell us how much money is DB making a year out of DCUO and how much do maintenance, development and licensing for some of the most popular intellectual properties on the planet cost.

Just because an industry is lucrative it doesn't mean that every business in that industry is making a lot of money. Hollywood makes a ton of money, yet there are a lot of movies every year, that make less money than they cost to produce and market. DCUO is not among the most popular games and is not an indie game produced by one guy in their bedroom. Sure - they're not "out of money" yet, because if they were - the game would shut down.

And what does lack of new powers have to do with how much money the company is making?

Well if it was a bug, it was a good bug. I certainly liked the idea of it but alas, if it wasnt meant to be, it wasnt meant to be. Oh wells.

    ....Yes?

Did you not read my post? Keeping the game alive and active is priceless otherwise you have no product in which you can sell. I also brought up the point of players playing more are more likely to spend money than someone who is in and out.

I hate to break it to you, bud. But if an hour of your time isn't even worth a dollar... nobody appreciates your business. Unless of course... you're selling your services.

Sorry but that’s not how business works…

You’re right in saying that a business like this cares about play time. I’ve said in the past that play time is another form of currency that companies like this value. However you are misinterpreting how this actually works. Here’s why.

You say that players would automatically farm these on all toons in order to get the stabilizers each week. Any data to back this up? If these players do in fact do this then it’s not a net gain. The company gains players play time but in return they also lose revenue from stabilizer sales. So it’s not like the company would just be sitting at a net gain (or in value). On top of that what makes you think that some of these players weren’t already going to be on regardless? I see so many players just sitting around in the HoL or other areas just passing time talking to others. These same players that would’ve been on regardless would them just be doing as you said and passing their time on this endless farm. So for these players they actually wouldn’t gain anything but instead lose value as these players that were already going to be on would have less reason to spend on stabilizers.

So no. They shouldn’t just allow players to get endless amounts (based on number of characters). It’s smarter to just do 1 per account.

I must be confused or didnt ever notice it. I guess I dont remember a Stab thing on Episode 45 but its here in Ep46 and 1 a week so this is still a thing. No idea what the rant in the OP is about.

And yet you're actively avoiding spending money when you're on for 16 hours grinding - that's the whole point of that grind, isn't it? To not have to pay for a Stabilizer?

To be fair, we get 1 stabilizer a week from Doctor Fate, a handful a month from the daily awards, and now 1 a day from the vendor in Dakota City which can be paid for in 2 rounds of doing the Dakota City bounties (A round and 3/4 if you have a head aug leveled). I have 50 stabilizers, without spending a dime outside of my monthly membership. They eased up on the artifacts and materials as one could easily save enough metal to nearly level an artifact to 200 between double art XP events(I have 3 banks 7 rows deep full of metal), along with Doctor Fate providing the seals to level them without spending a single dollar or Source Mark. Even the materials are in the monthly reward system and the allies can now be leveled without spending money or burning through a ton of Source Marks if done correctly.

The notion that these remain money grabs and paywall restricted, is out of date.

Wait what? This is 45...isn't it? The generator mod drops are 45.x...which generally corresponds with the episode number.

I get that in some places like South America.... it is expensive to play DCUO.
Heck over there 1 Stabilizer probably cost as much as a new TV.... or a new car. ;) :) (j/k)

But when minimum wage is $15 an hour....
Grinding for 16 hours comes down to $240.

Unless you have a LOT of free time that you don't know what to do with....
Much cheaper to just buy them Stabilizers. ;)
  15. Dev72 Dedicated Player

Minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour at least in the U.S. (Doubt Bernie will get his way). If so, prepare for all of the prices to go up by double of what we are paying now for goods and services ...minimum...especially in those states that have a larger portion of employers who are paying employees at federal minimums..

We are already seeing some of it in certain states charging 15 dollars for a single combo meal at MC D's.
  16. Vedic New Player

That's not how it works. For it to work the way you just described minimum wage would have to be 100% of the costs of a business when it's typically only a small percentage. As well, the percentage of the population that earns minimum wage is usually too small for increases in their wages to have an impact upon inflation.

On a different note, TVs and cars in South America are not cheap at all and quite often more expensive than North America depending on the amount of the VAT tax.

If this is some American political thing as to why these two points were made I'm not interested in a political debate. I'm only mentioning it as I'm an accountant and those are some very misleading comments that were made.

Not trying to make this political either, but in 1979 they raised the minimum wage amounts exactly for adjustments to inflation. The impact wouldn't be any different except on a higher scale in increase to prices raised. Can't ignore the outcomes of relevant history.
  19. TheLorax 15000 Post Club

It varies by state, Virginia for example is $12.
  20. Dev72 Dedicated Player

Agreed, but was speaking of federals, which was the point of reference.
