Cross Play

Not ironic at all as Jaffin has never displayed any platform snobbery in the past or present. And that's a player attitude that needs to die and stay buried on all sides.

There's obviously a reason why cross play can't happen, and it's painfully obvious to anyone paying attention that they can't get into details about why. What is so hard to understand about the fact that they can't give a "better" explanation??? If they can't talk about it, pestering them for more details isn't going to result in them revealing anything...otherwise you wouldn't have to keep asking constantly.

X-box and the Switch need cross play precisely because of what you've heard...there aren't enough people playing, which cause people to give up in frustration, which further shrinks the population. It's a self perpetuating problem that's only going to get worse as time goes on. The economy thing is not even a thing to be concerned with because who cares if you can't play on the broker when you can't even queue up for a simple duo or alert to progress. When you can't get a single phase populated enough to take down Ares, the Void material going for a billion dollars doesn't mean jack squat. Hell, their broker economy is broken too...just in the opposite direction (nothing to buy since no one can get into content to get any "valuable" drops.

    Well,
The devs can't give a better answer because Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo won't give them one.

Daybreak/Dimensional Ink: We would like to have DCUO as crossplay on your platforms.

    Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo: No.

    Daybreak/Dimensional Ink: Why?

Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo: Because we said so.

This is basically what we are dealing with. Most of these games that are crossplay are first/third person shooters, MOBAs and rouge-lite games.

In my opinion, I think that consoles are afraid to take a chance with a crossover superhero game as they may feel they will make more profit with the single player console version. The Spiderman and Batman games are a good example of this.

my bias agrees xD, But this game need crossplay as Xbox and Switch are dyin out there looking like Rock in round 4 with Drago
  6. the solowing Unwavering Player

Its not thats its a cross-over its business, why play it on X platform, when i you can play it on MY platform?

Well, I think that depends upon what is offered on the table. Take FFXIV Online for example; even though I can play when I log in from the PS4 or from the PC, I still have to purchase currency, subscriptions, bundles and certain cosmetic items from the PC side. If you look at the PSN store for this game, it only offers different versions of the game, some themes and some avatars; that's it. Square Enix maintains everything else from the PC side. Sony has little to nothing to do with many issues that players may have with the game and Square-Enix doesn't have to contact Sony for most issues players may have. So, more than likely Sony has allowed Square Enix to maintain it's own servers and currency/most store purchases for a good sum of money while allowing PS4 players access to PC players.

I am sure that DCUO would LOVE this type of arrangement; however, since Sony makes money from DCUO currency and episode purchases via PSN/Credit/Debit and Paypal, your point becomes more on point; why should our players have access to the PC platform when we can make money off of them on our platform?

I agree 100%. I've got accounts on both PC and Switch. On Switch, group content is basically non-existant. I am not exaggerating when I say that I do not believe Hydra has EVER been defeated on Switch; since Wonderverse, I have only ever seen one World Boss be defeated, and it was an Athena and only just barely.

That being said, I suspect that the hang-up is Sony. This is purely speculation.

    Years ago...
Sony Online Entertainment: Hey. Our MMO is struggling on PC-side with a lower population. Could we cross-play it with PS3 to help it out?
Sony Crossplay Boss: Sure. Why not. Go for it.

    Now...
Dimensional Ink: Hey. Our MMO is going strong on the combination PS4/PC server, but it's really struggling on X-Box and Nintendo Switch.
Sony Crossplay Boss: Good. I want them to fail. They are the competition. Hopefully this makes people who like the game finally break down and buy a PS4.
Dimensional Ink: Well, the players would really like cross-play.
Sony Crossplay Boss: Bugger that! This isn't a case where we ALL need. We're good! We won. So to heck with the competition; let them fail.
    Dimension Ink: But the customers...
Sony Crossplay Boss: -should buy a PS4.

i seriously dont get why most/some people dont understand the big thing is money. making a thread here...

    MEANS.
    NOTHING.
    TO.
    CONSOLE.
    COMPANIES.

they are the MAIN NUMERO UNO reason why there isnt full crossplay (at the moment we only have crossplay with sony/pc but still its only partial). DCUO can wish for it all they want but its up to the console companies if they want to do it. and the main thing it ALWAYS falls to is MONEY.

first and foremost DBDs player base is so much lager then DCUO that we look like a small box of kittens to a city full of people. secondly and still the biggest thing all parties get a share from doing crossplay. also i dont even know why ANY console person would even want crossplay right now when wonderverse alone proves DCUO doesnt even have the capacity to handle very large amounts of groups for world bosses.

so really until this game gets a server upgrade to handle large groups of people in one area, crossplay shouldnt even be on the table. but if you still want it so badly then send emails to microsoft, sony, and nintendo to try and get the ball rolling.

    Easy Answer:

When you contact these companies about this particular issue, you get a roadblock non-answer: "We are considering various games for crossplay; stay tuned!"

    Yeeeeaaaah... ok.

PC players start console wars between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo fans? News to me. Then again I'm a fan of gaming in general, not following one manufacturer, so I don't buy into the whole console war thing as it's stupid.

For the record I've been a Nintendo fan my whole life and have gotten every one of their consoles from the Gamecube onwards. I do most of my gaming on PC these days for sure, but I still have a PS4 and my beloved Switch. First party Nintendo franchises will always be my favourites, but I appreciate gaming on any and all consoles. Xbox is the only one of the big three I've never bought, and that's simply because none of their exclusives have ever drawn me in, but I have nothing against them.

We have been killing Hydra on US Switch since the teeth timer was first increased. I have had the 50 kill forever. Not only that, a lot of us have killed so many bosses we are done with the grind, even on alts.

That said, while it is possible to still get things done on Switch if you are willing to put in the effort, your point is still valid in that it is much harder and requires a much bigger commitment.

I for one enjoy the much smaller community, but there are times when the population does get a bit frustrating.
  13. Noble One Committed Player

pretty much in a nutshell. the reason other games are getting cross play, well another reason besides money, is because that game is popular enough for it. DCUO is in no way shape and or form that popular. so the chances of getting cross play is pretty much at zero. we dont even have full cross play with PS/PC lol.
  14. Brit Loyal Player

Wow. Honestly, I have NEVER seen that happening. When are you playing? I guess somehow I am just missing everyone else; I feel lucky if I find a single person doing the dailies over the course of running Patchwork Themescria dailies on 12 characters.
  15. Doctor Null New Player

Main problem is the phases where they are dying fill up fast and you generally can't get into them without a group.
  16. Brit Loyal Player

You're blowing my mind. I could search the entire Watchtower and not find 50 players. I didn't think that there were 50 players online on Switch at the same time. I never would have imagined that entire shards were reaching the 50 player cap.
  17. Doctor Null New Player

A lot of people hang out in their base on Switch because it helps with crashes and supposedly some of the lag as well. Just make sure to enable the LFG channel in options, for w/e reason they don't enable that by default. It's not widely used, but we generally announce bounties in that channel when heading out.
  18. the solowing Unwavering Player

It used to, it was changed to be turned off by default years back
