Many players have come from Champions Online, City of Heroes. So in comparison to those games DCUO customization is no where near the levels of customization as those, not even close.

That's their excuse for everything... (If I remember right they did have some issues with the lair themes being bugged... which might have hurt sales, and then of course they seem to forget that the price will be compared with/to other items on the MP, like the lair amenities)

Perhaps they should try to find a price point that would sell at the volume they are looking for... or look into splitting them into more than one MP item.(After all they could potentially be split into skin and lair henchmen with each being sold at half the price.)

As for other things that I think would sell well that aren't necessarily pure cosmetic items:
    • Variant amenities: Like the vendors, but given NPC skins instead of looking like a terminal, the the added bonus of letting us have more than one of the same amenity in the same lair.(Personally I think we should be able to place as many training holograms as we want.)
    • Additional lair amenity slots: Grants us the ability to place additional amenities in our lair.
    • Phase Shifter: Lets us shift between PvP and PvE phase.
    • PvP gear vendors: Another possible way of adding NPCs for our lairs while also providing a bit of convenience for those who just don't care for cosmetics.
    • "Backup generators": Allows us to place another generator in our lair from which we can change battery nodes and swap out base mods.
    • "Mainframe Terminal": Gives us additional access points to our Mainframe in our lairs.

Perhaps we could even get some craftible lair item and amenities...

Let's examine how City of Heroes and Champions Online are doing. City of Heroes is no more and Champion Online has not had an update since September 2014.

Graphically I prefer DCUO over Champion any day of the week. Yeah there are some added benefits like extra styles from Champion and you can purchase more, but what I like about DCUO is that we earn the styles from gear and than can modify our toon to our liking. It is cool.

As for reusing styles...I believe we asked for that as we wanted an easier way to complete some of the styles in this game, such as Hive Defenser, Olong, etc...This change was good it allowed us to earn feats that we may not have gotten other wise.

If I may add something there: Base items for me are not only an issue of not being redeemed several times per character but a combination of three things:
    - the price for me is an issue for several of those bundles
    - the amount of items as you said it
    - most important: none of the base items we can buy are exclusive. Why would I spend real money if I can buy the very same items on the broker or farm them myself? If they would sell different color variations at least! Like the spring event comes out and brings great vernal base items - well offer them in different colors on the marketplace! How hard can it be to make blue flowers yellow or red?

Talking about customization. [insert Allen Iverson practice dialogue] Not how they are doing or have done. Just the customization they had. Makes DCUO seem bland, light, plain... etc.

To your last point about rehashed styles. Style vendor. No need to rehash styles to add into future content when its easier to add to style vendor for marks be it at a much cheaper cost of marks. They can keep MoT if they want and have style vendor gear cost MoTs. Marks of Victory for gear progression in every dlc. MoT in content towards style vendor purchases, if the unlucky cannot get they style drops they need. I wouldnt have much of an issue if, say, 98 gear drops were a completely new style, which adds to further customization of a payers toon, a 10 point style, instead of 98 rehashed styles.

I'm curious as to what would make you feel "rewarded" for your efforts.

There is plenty to go on for not feeling rewarded, but what exactly would make you feel rewarded?

I believe gaining rewards through in-game performance may resolve a lot of issues. The better you do, the better gear you get.

A players gear should be a representation of their skill in combat, not their luck.

Vendor Gear should be a necessity to have in order to gain "Ranked gear" (my replacement for Alert and Raid gear drops).

Ranked Gear: gear you gain purely through your own performance in a mission.

The idea is that Vendor Gear prepares you for the challenge it would take to gain the "Ranked Gear". Just having vendor gear and "coasting" through a mission will not allow a player to achieve high end Ranked Gear.

Ranked Gear: would have different classes: EX: E,D,C,B,A,S classes.

Each rank will actually grant you access to a set of styles, base items, access to an increase marks attainable within the tier your Ranked Gear belongs to (players should be moving forward and not retracing their steps too heavily within content).

Class set up: Players will be able to get class gear (with class benefits) through average performance with vendor gear. Each class of Ranked Gear will of course be more challenging to ean per class.

Now, S class gear is for the best of the best. This gear grants unique individual styles not connected to a set. You actually gain a whole skill point for gaining these styles. Also, you are granted the unique tier Aura for collecting all the S class styles.

There is a caveat however: There are a set of classes for Ranked Gear tier. You cannot take your tier 6 set (E through S) into tier 7. However, you can take your vendor gear into other tiers. Your Vendor Gear is your gateway into other tiers.

    Note:
Ranked Gear is for challenge, styles (base items, attire etc.) and feats.
Vendor Gear grants you access to the next tier and "Ranked Gear".

Ranked Gear is completely intrinsic to the player. No one can mess up the player's performance but the player. This means that it does not matter whether a Tank has a horrid team that wiped out 20 times. A player can still come out of a mission with S class gear. It is all dependent on the skill of the individual player.

Note: if a player is with an OP team (or player) they fundamentally may not be able to qualify for the gear do to their lack of activity within the mission.

Bottom Line: If anything, this system I made is supposed to illustrate that DCUO should focus on skill and not luck, within its reward and progression system.

For me? If vendors had the best gear. That way, every run means something. Content drops should just be styles, OP items, Plans and Base Items.

    Problems solved.

    Welcome to DCUO!
I completely understand! I've notice that they have become more and more STINGY with time. This is completely unfair to subscribers especially, which I am one of. Compared to other games, the perks that subscribers get are very minimal. Dcuo has already lost A LOT of players yet they gamble that new players will replace the old ones. Don't underestimate the David that might bring down this Goliath. Don't take your players base for granted, especially as more and more MMOs with far greater budget and vision become available on PS4. I bet all the games that fell out of favor never once thought that they would be extinct and took their player base for granted.

A lot of it is the players's fault as well. Every single day you have players that post threads complaining about things that have more to do with their lack of skills and understanding of the game than with a flaws in the game itself. This was especially true pre-GU36. The devs listened to a minority of players who are now unhappy with the implementation of their OWN failed ideas. Now the devs are literally on a quest to undo the things that made the game great. It feels like self-sabotage.

Only thing I'm hoping is that with the new ownership by DayBreak that DCUO will be steered into a new direction that will be pleasing to the players. Otherwise, it may be headed towards its own demise.
  11. Solutha New Player

I didn't play either of those games but wasn't City of Heroes shutdown due to DC and Marvel constantly suing them for copyright infringements because of the customization in that game. That leads to the whole styles in DCUO thing. I think DC has finale approval on everything that goes in the game. So us not getting a lot of styles could be their doing.
  12. Giggles Loyal Player

I agree 100% with the OP.

I have no problem earning rewards and grinding for rewards, as long as they are reasonable. Having to gamble for the best set of gear, is not reasonable to me. I have no problem putting in the time, as long as my time is adequately rewarded. I know many others who feel the same way. The problem with DC right now, is they are over relying on RNG to make up for the lack of content we have available to us, and in my opinion RNG is going to be the death of this game.

Until they make vendor gear the best set of gear once again, I will not spend another dime on this game. As I said before, and continue to do myself... Vote with your wallets, everyone. :)

hand of fate dlc there's gear u can craft.

The marketplace is awful imo. Also as far as HoP2 goes. The stat increase for having all 110 over 108 vendor is so tiny. As a troll its +72 vit for all 110 over 108. As a dps its +42 precision and 120 might. And elite gear has exact same stats as regular 110 gear except for the buffs for having 4 or 8 pieces, those buffs are also very tiny and will not make or break players as far as completing content. Im just not sure why i care about even having the raid gear or elite gear. All 110 takes u to 126cr and having all vendor takes ya to 124. Ive done some tests on test server and those 2 cr points dont even mean much either. Theres no incentive to get raid gear this time, none imo.

I play 5 toons and all im going to do is get vendor gear for the main role of each toon and use raid gear for the off role if i get any. Or have both roles as a mix of 110 and 108. But as soon as im geared which takes about 3-4 weeks then i literally have no reason to log on. Going forward ill be subbing for a month then unsubbing for the next 2 until the 30 day content comes.

People can defend/bash gu47 all they want. But some should keep quiet imo until they have gone on test and played the content to actually see whats going on. The new loot? Yea all these people wanna say its an improvement. Well its not. And i fully expect that in less then 1 week after it going live u see will see alot of players complain about the things ive been saying about the new loot since it was announced. Stats and sp are devalued. Ive done the tests myself and any player with half a brain can go to test and also see this. There is also some very odd inconsistencies with damage and i saw that 2day during testing. They say they are waiting on psn approval to push the gu through even tho there are quite a few things not working correctly. And they also just nerfed the pets into the ground again on test.

Again i hate to be critical of the people making/running the game but the decisions....smh. Please devs dont push this update though until things are working right. Pushing it through early and broken will result in you losing players. Please dont make the same mistakes u have made b4.

No because its not what you were planning on getting. And the amount of money you spent to get the $100 probably wasn't worth it.
  16. Minnion Devoted Player

I thought it was shut down because they wanted to use the resources on a more profitable game...(Not that City of Heroes wasn't turning a profit, just that the corporate overlords figured they would make even more money by investing the resources elsewhere.)
  17. Derio 15000 Post Club

DCUO has until the end of 2015 to get its stuff together. By the end of 2015 there will be more than 5 top end MMOs on the PS4 and over 10 MMO's entirely on the PS4.

Which is why GU47 had to happen right now. They needed this drastic change right now more than ever. I just hope they have something planned in the fall that they are keeping secret right now, because IMO with all these threads going on. Plus the lack of people logging in right now. DCUO does not look good.

Damn, I'd actually be happy if I got a 101 piece that I need every 1 out of 4 drops. It's more like 1 in 20 or 1 in 30 that I actually get a rare drop I can use.

I am unable to quote, but I do agree, Chuck, (from my limited knowledge past the superficial) that it would be more "rewarding" to earn the best gear by purchasing from vendors as in the days of yore rather than having to wait for it to drop via gamble gear.

I remember waiting months (personally- hated it -_-) to get enough MoT to complete a set, but at least I had something I could actually work towards and knew there would be an end and actually calculate it out to when that end would come if I pursued my quest for marks by running most, if not all, of the instances.

But I am betting that somewhere along the line a number cruncher came to the conclusion that it would be more lucrative to offer the gear as drops and from my initial feeling, that would be correct. It becomes more of a gamble than a sure thing. That's how all games (Candy Crush included) make most of their money and that is from the impatient who have to have everything now. So more replay badges are sold.

It is a choice though. I play and have fun. The only thing I can see that will stop me from playing is if I continue to dc every 10-15mins...

Still waiting for them to give us RnD quests to complete for an ultimate weapon or something. Sure it will take time but once you have it....oh boy.
