Consume Soul and Celestial Healing

Why do I need Consume Soul to heal Raven in Desecrated Cathedral Elite?

I was told it was the only way to heal Raven. To me, this sounds like an exploit since supposedly Consume Soul is the only power that can do it. I was also accused of being new to Celestial Healing because I did not have Consume Soul and my loadout was for DPSing.

My Load-out: Retribution c Wither, Benediction c Malediction, Divine Light c Plague, Admonish c Blight, Blessing, Sacrifice (or Consecrated ground). Note: I used to use Guardians Light until I was told it was inferior after "Love and War" went live.

I have been Celestial Healing since its debut (for PVE and PVP). I know my combos so heavily that at this point, it's muscle memory. Let alone tricks I have discovered such as jump canceling while continuing to perform the Celestial combos uninterrupted. Of course, I also fulfill the duties of a Healer as well and understand the tactics that are apart of Celestial healing (at least enough of them).

Bottom Line: So what is a "good" Celestial Healer?

Side Note: These days I am off and on DCUO. I do not keep up with the stat increases and decreases to Celestial healing for each power (ex: Guardians Light used to be "good").

Each healing power has a power move that is an ally heal move. Allies include friendly NPCs that fight alongside you. these moves are also raid size H.o.T moves. For Celestial, it's Consume Souls. For Electricity, it's Galavinze. Nature and Sorcery have one too, as will the next healing power....Water. Its not an exploit as its been built-in since the beta days. Its importance is great. most moves, this goes for trolls and healers, are line-of-sight moves; Meaning you have to see them to heal them. You must have a "direct" line of sight on them for them to get your heals or power. Any objects in front of them, whether a rock, wall, enemy NPCs or another player at times...will block heals or power from getting to them. However, these Ally/H.o.T moves do not require a line-of-sight to work. Guardian's Light is a personal favorite of mine but i stopped using it in raids a long time ago...way before Love and War come out. i stopped around T5. i just love the animation on it. Its most effective in Alerts. Its poor in Raids, which is sad since its a raid-size heal. Don't get me wrong, the heals it gives are good but are far too slow for most raids. There are many "Good" Healing loadouts. Some better than others. What it comes down to is: "What works for you", "What works for your team", and What does the situation you are in call for" In your situation, you need to keep raven alive or at least at 75%. Consume Souls is the only option for a Celestial Healer if the healer is responsible for raven.

Now, how am I supposed to know in-game that Consume souls is the only power that heals NPCs. Let alone that it is a requirement a the end of Desecrated Cathedral. I have tried to stay away from the Cursed tree for opening moves do to character role play. I have become more lenient and used Cursed since began learning DPSing. However, the way players use Consume Souls contradicts the "main" point of doing Celestial, the combos. Its a spamming/clip maneuver that Celestial should not be centered around (which seems to be the case, informally). A player would always need the move to be on the safe side when doing content.

Note: The way I allocated my points prevents me from using Consume Souls without Sacrificing a move.

Bottom Line: So I recommend the ability to heal NPCs also or only be applied to Wrath of Presence into Consume Soul.

Note: One move should not be more important than any other. Hopefully, the developers will still continue to work on Celestial so they can achieve this detail that supports balance.

Side Note: I do believe the healing of NPC's is unintentional. Why, because of the exploits that players produced in the open world. Players healing enemies of the opposing faction is one example.

Yep.. consume soul heals allies, but it's really not required for healing Cathedral. Really not :D

aaalso you have alot of different possibilities to heal with celestial ;)

For a blessed loadout you could go like:

Admonish cBlight, Wrath of the Presence cConsume Soul, Blessing, Renew, Divine LIght, SC (should be possible to build with points)
  5. Sage-Rapha Steadfast Player

Why would you think it's unintentional, when you need to heal pets like Fury, Guardian, Crystal, and Brick? One hot and an iffy glyph position aint gonna cut it for the pet powers nor for instances where keeping AI alive is important.
And why limit it just to Wrath of the Presence cConsume Soul when Sorcery Nature and Electric have more than one hot that heals NPC'S? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Typically powers that state "heal allies" in the description will heal non group members of your faction.
NPCs of your faction are non group member allies.

Celestial powers that heal non group allies include Consume Soul, Divine Light, Cursed Idol and Sacrifice.

DL is an AOE heal effect as well. However the OP loadout is for sure a battle healing loadout and not a traditional healing loadout for sure. However Raven does not need to be healed in that Alert so my question is why did Raven's health be an issue?
  8. Scarlet Rise Loyal Player

NPC's and pets are "supposed" to be different from one another. They are used in different ways within different circumstances. Players can easily grief a mission when they have they ability to indiscriminately heal NPC's. Exploiting this ability has already caused complications in DCUO.

To have powers that heal NPC's in certain missions is too inconsistent. So to me, its bad form to allow the players to heal NPCs only in certain situations. Furthermore, I should not have to wipe in Desecrated Cathedral, be told or realize Consume Souls can heal NPC's through happenstance. This information should be in the power description.

Note: I just recently became aware Consume Souls can heal NPC's. I have also just learned that other healer power sets possess the same ability. My focus right now is Celestial, not other healer powers sets. Additionally, everything that I have been told has been hearsay and I know better not believe everything I hear. I made this thread to get confirmation on the uses of Consume Soul.

I was blamed for not healing Raven. Though I was aware the Alert (Elite) was taking longer than I am accustom to. However, I was relatively new to the Alert, so I did not know what was a reasonable amount of time to complete the boss battle. They took advantage of my ignorance (a common trait among the player-base).

It was a bit insulting to be accused of being new. However, I would be foolish to not question it (humility and what not).
  10. Sage-Rapha Steadfast Player

The person should know better than to grief other players.
Though, I don't see an issue with healing AI. Someone like yourself should have the ability to do so and do it well.
You have been playing celestial for years. You should know Consume Soul has the ability to heal AI already.

In throne you should be healing WW.
In TD you should be healing WW.
In Inner Sanctum you should be healing Batman.
In FOS you should be keeping Superman and Lex Alive.
There's more examples but that should suffice.

That's just like saying Battle Drone is bugged because it gives AI power.

Wait, healing Raven is important? News to me.

Sounds like you were in a bad group that blamed the lack of burn on a dead AI.

Ironically, I DPSed within the same mission with another group at an earlier time. I was accused of not giving sufficient burn. To this day I do not know whether I was "undergeared" (Cr 141 no stat mods) or my tactics were not helping the team.

So in one instance I was accused for not burning down the boss with efficiency. In the other scenario, I was accused for not healing Raven before she fell. Raven seems to be strong enough to give the group plenty of time to defeat her other half. So it seems I was at "fault" for not applying enough burn. However, I do think I was not at fault as a Healer.
  13. Scarlet Rise Loyal Player

OK, are both combinations of divine Light and Plague are primarily for DPSing?
Plague c Divine Light are for the purist and Divine Light c Plague are for a hybrid build.
  14. Derio 15000 Post Club

You were not at fault you don't have to heal raven that entire fight. If the fight took longer than 5 minutes it is the dps fault

Plain ol Divine Light for a purist approach.
PcDL can be used in tandem in both approaches.

Been awile since I've ran celestial but IIRC, consume soul is celestials only 'ally heal' save for divine light if you or a teammate are next to the ally.
Unless something changed recently its always been that way for celestial, every healer power has an ally healing move, thats not new, not an exploit, and not necessarily needed either, much less needed for raven in DC, though a good idea to at least have it specced in case you need it even if you rarely use it, not unlike controllers and their healing debuffs. Also, it makes healing an earth tanks brick a helluva lot easier.
Not sure exactly why you spec the way you do, maybe it's a 'battle healer' as posted above but if your looking for a pure healer loadout its vastly different from yours and less reliant on clipping, the only move to clip would be your 7man hot admonish cBlight (every 6 secs to refresh), then blessing, renew, divine light, consume soul, and whatever you want your 6th power to be, i use to run consecrated ground but annoit would work as well. Again, the only power you clip is the group HOT, everything else is stand alone so theres no need to spec anything but consume soul from cursed tree, Hope that helps.

If a person heals an NPC that results in interference in an opposing faction player's ability top complete content and/or objectives while not being in PvP phase or having their PvP flag on, then it is a reportable offense.
  18. DrkBLADExx Active Player

You have been Celestial for a while now, at least from before Love and War come out from what you said in the post. Haven't you played or fooled around with your loadout? Havent you tried out all the powers? However, i'm reminded that you use powers to fix your character role play. If you have never used Consume Souls before then i understand completely... but if you have use it before.....you should know. ....just from watching what it does. Places like TD are a good example of power observation. Tons of friendly NPCs getting attacked by enemy NPCs. No need to heal them at all....completely unnecessary but those who use the move will see what it does. Divine Light also heals ally NPC but they have to be in it or move thru it. CI and Sacrfice work too but i wouldn't use it for just NPCs. Its not needed in DC (reg or elite). However, like i said, if its the Healer who is responsible for Raven's life, then Consume Souls is the only (or best) option. However, I dont see why its not the DPSes who are responsible to burn good or fast enough to keep Raven alive. While its true.......the best thing about Celestial Healing is its variety; So many good and beast loadouts to create unlike other powers where there is only 1 good loadout option....... Sticking to moves you only see your character using role play wise is limiting. Especially since some moves work better than others. Your loadout is a battle healer, not dps. (Reg heals plus extra heals from the damage you cost) If you dont wanna change your loadout, i suggestion using Divine Light when you are near Raven (pretty much on top of) or when a team mate is near raven (pretty much on top of) so that she might get heals as well. once again ....its not really your fault if raven dies. Sure a healer can save raven...but i could also ask... Why is the fight taking so long that Raven even has the time to die in the first place.
  19. Black Jaq Devoted Player

Consume Souls is a guaranteed HoT that does not need combos, which is what makes it a staple of most Celestial healer loadouts, regardless if they are battle healing or not.

As a benefit, it heals pets. During raids, Fury and Crystal take a lot of damage. If you don't help out your pet DPS players, you are actually hurting your group. Fury and Crystal respawn with an empty power bar in case you didn't know. Henchmen need love too. That's lost DPS.

I took out anoint and added consume soul. My normal methods would hurt the team; even so, this seems to be a sly way for players (or the game itself) to commandeer one of my slots or power point (permanently).

Note: I do have armories but that shouldn't override my point.
