Community Misconception?: It Is Not Weapom Mastery Combos Vs. Awesome Mechanics

That is exactly what I am arguing above. PM + clipping in a rotation without WM are supposed to be equivalent to WM in a rotation without a PM. A player using solely WM and no PM should not out-dps a player using a PM + clipping. A player using WM + PM + clipping should out-dps anyone who is using a PM + clipping or WM.
  2. Karasawa Loyal Player

Players using WM with no PM are out-dpsing PM+clipping. Tunso's test didn't include WM crits, which is a part of WM, and Remander has shown in his own tests that WM is doubling the effective dps of PM+clipping.

If you'd "extrapolate" a bit more you'd realize the OP isn't wrong because he's saying the same thing you are: there's actually a third option involving WM combos + PM which is better than either flow chart option. Therefore, the flow chart is wrong. It's not in the flow chart but it's reality, so stop quoting the flow chart as if it were the bible.

Now here's why the concept of a third option is a problem: the third option is the best so there's really only ONE option--WM combos. As long as you're using WM combos it doesn't matter if you're utilizing WM crits or PM, it will still be better than PM + clipping. There is no option that does not involve WM in some way.

Now this is further complicated by the fact that some power mechanics aren't actually providing more damage than baseline. For example, nature and electricity's power mechanic (harvest and voltaic bolt dot-combining) don't actually make the combined dots do more damage than simply stacking the dots--combining dots is more power efficient but does not provide more raw damage.

Nature's total dot damage is 90% the same as some other powersets like Sorcery. This means other power sets can leverage the SAME damage as nature's power mechanic without losing WM crits. So what ends up happening is some powersets getting WM combo + PM-level damage + WM crits while other powersets don't get WM crits.

What can we do to resolve this? (1) Push the damage away from wm COMBOS and into wm CRITS then balance it with the power mechanics from there. That eliminates the possibility of getting the majority of WM damage and PM damage simultaneously. (2) Having a single dot active should not eliminate nature and electricity's wm crits.

Well-stated. They should have balanced WM from the beginning. Doubt it will happen now, because the balancing is all going in relation to the WM combos being the base damage. Shifting the WM balance now would mean having to go back and adjust all the PMs currently in game (assuming they're balanced already, which I still don't think they are). Selecting DoTs as a PM without adding some burst damage boost leaves them permanently behind in the majority of content. That was just a bad move overall.

It also means that the optimal build for every powerset and option is full precision. WM combos are expected and have a much greater damage potential than all other sources.

I was not quoting the flow chart as if it was the bible; I was merely pointing out that what the OP is saying, and what we as players have discovered, is outside the realm of what the developers have told us. Also, there is supposed to be an option that does not involve WM but still does awesome damage. It just will not be as competitive as WM + PM + clipping.

If you read TrueOlympus's posts, you'll note that he did not have a full understanding of the chart, which is what I am trying to help clarify. The following post shows that:

Overall, I'm on your side here... Each power mechanic (PM) that we currently have is not enough to compete with WM by itself, so PM + clipping is currently not able to keep up with WM despite what the developers have promised. That makes the whole debate a bit moot. Even the option that the developers have told us we will have is not an option right now. WM is stronger than everything else available.

I think (2) is the most fair option, personally. I've advocated that in a few posts along the way in other threads regarding this topic.

    WRONG!

It's not a community misconception... It's straight from the devs.

So it's a devs' and community misconception?

Seriously: Using weapon mastery, a power mechanic, and clipping in your rotation is going to do a lot better than weapon mastery by itself or a power mechanic and clipping by themselves. Weapon mastery provides an increase in damage to mastered attacks and permanently increased critical strike damage.

I don't think that is a wrong on my part..... seems to be a miscommunication imo....

Okay This is clear enough I Hope, shame reality tells a different storry.

This doesn't even make logical sense because clipping by definition requires the use of a power. If Mepps is saying weapon damage+power damage is supposed to equal WM combo damage alone then I'd agree and also point out that it's ridiculously unbalanced because a WM combo requires less effort and no power; only skill points.

I agree they should be equal. That's the whole point of this thread.

These "should" be equal but are NOT equal. Using weapon mastery with the bonus crits more than doubles the effective dps of clipping with awesome mechanic.

Not to mention clipping with awesome mechanic uses much more power and effort than WM with crits, even after taking into account the new power efficiency interactions. They will never be equal with those imbalances.

Well, I don't blame you for seeing things that way since on live the actual numbers tell a different story... I just hope the end result will equal what Meeps stated today. I can't wait to clip with quantum/mental and "advanced interactions"

this is truly a sad time in dcuo

This can be true, but if it is it's still unbalanced. How? If AM is replacing Might crit buffs, why do I see people that don't use an AM, and still Out DPS them with twice as much as the AM user( they both have the exact same skill level and stats). If this were true, that wouldn't happen, in that scenario. This is also happening because people don't care about the Might Crit buff at the end of the combo, They care about the Damage the WM combo does, which then makes the WM combo itself the reward.

May aswell scrap Might and make everything Precision since our powers don't do jack. You would think they would buff Might in order to match Precision in damage but noo...

Yep, some people might want to be Superman, Wonder Woman, The Martian Manhunter, Lantern, etc. type hereos/villains, but instead, we're all relegated to Batman, Robin, Flash, Lex Luthor, Joker, etc. type heroes/villains that have to rely on weapons instead of powers. My DC Universe has thrown me into a parallel universe where superpowers no longer matter; who else joined this game for the superpower side of it?
