Community Misconception?: It Is Not Weapom Mastery Combos Vs. Awesome Mechanics

    If anything Tunso's tests showed that WM is incredibly strong. It sounds like he just used a power to get the WM crits but he didn't list a rotation.. then he compares that to a full 6 power build with clipped rotations and they STILL almost do the same damage. You'd use wayyy more power and effort doing clipped rotations without WM for only a tiny bit more damage. If Tunso had used WM along with a decent rotation or even the awesome mechanic rotations he would have blown both tests out of the water.

    So you'd rather Tax the troll make the game so unfun for the roll of Troll there is a Defense debuff to speed that damage up. Every single player should be doing damage from the DPS straight down to the Healer. A dps isn't the only person doing damage. You just stink at your job if you have to relay on a power to do Damage. Do you not know how many Trolls went DPS after they were Taxed so much or just said I'm not feeding you anymore you power hungry DPS. You want the Top slot fight for it. Every power every weapon should be equal and that's just what they have done. If you don't like it stay at the bottom of Damage with your might based damage only. You need to use both put a Supercharge in your load out that's were the really Damage should be coming from any way. A weapon is just as good as a Might power with the exception of making the game not fun for the Trolls. Trolls step up your Damage to don't just pile on the Vit put some might and Precision in you Sp build. Same goes for Healers Celestial was made to be a Damage Healer use this ability. Find the weapon that you like not for the damage but for the fun of using the combos. Back in the days of Kahn people were using there weapons are you so hung up on Might out you can't go back? WM is a work in progress its not going to be perfect over night. Hell I see so many weapon combos that can be expanded its not funny. Don't hide in the back have one DPS that is Melee come up behind the boss and rip him a new one use a shield in your load out every power has on for a reason don't ignore your movement trees Acrobats use your perfect Pose its not just for PVP. They have Armories for a reason have a close range build and a range build. Don't be afraid to get in close pick your moments. Team work should be happening more out there don't leave it to a Troll or Healer to pick some one up. Add some Dom to your SP or even resto to make a stronger personal shield every power pretty much can heal itself too. Don't worry about the score board worry about getting the job done. How many DPS's are melee in PVP bet its all of you. Pick your times as long as your on the back side of the boss. Use your back up and your Orbits too use everything as a weapon even supply drops have a Damage buff drop that not use to give yourself power. Time your attacks like a pack of wolves.

    What I want to see out there is 1 Heal focused Healer and 1 Damage focused Healer or rotate back and forth talk to each other. Trolls should always be doing Weapon Damage don't be afraid to get in close too. Range has been expanded in every melee tree via Weapon Mastery use this. Even your Tank or Tanks should be damaging. If your a Tank tanking the boss the second should have a Damage build that has your Damage jacked up. DPS's stop the crying it takes hours to cook dinner and usually a home cooked meal is far more tasty that a nuked one. Time is not your enemy if you have to work don't log in play DC after work same for Teens play DC after you do your home work not a factor since School is letting out. If you take an hour to finish a raid that's all good. Why do you want it over in 20 mins have side conversations during the fights don't just complain about the game talk to talk talk about how crappy your mom dad or boss treats you or even how great you day has been. Get to know people online too find out the reason they are a Tank Troll Healer or DPS. enjoy the time you have togather don't begrudge time. Its as simple as that. What did you dad always say growing up don't cry suck it up and take your licks.

    Next time I see a healer go DPS in the new Alert I'm going to wipe the Party and walk out. I asked for a Healer for a reason when doing the new Alert. I'm here to have fun forcing me to be more defensive when I have no healer is dumb you would never do that to a Tank in Raids don't do it in Alerts. All your doing is making the game less fun for Tanks by taking away our insurance policy when we do open up to do damage. Further if I do have a 2 dps run use your Attack Debuff Trolls if not I'm wiping the party and walking out. There is a reason I don't shout for the new Alert cause its not balanced you drop your defense roles for Damage this has to STOP! Support is there for a reason I really don't want to see the Dev drop Resto again I depend on my personal heal when the Healer is Damaging. Support Roles use your POWER CORE to increase Damage.

    I really have to Thank the Devs when they do join or build a player party on live at least when they put to gather a T6 Alert they actually use a Healer. Thank you for the Balanced runs guys.

    Indeed, but it didn't seem to prove anything. When I read it, I was like, that doesn't prove anything. Especially since you can still use a straight up WM combo while using the special power mechanic.

    I reread the test, he didn't say he used a power at all. Just WM. So it's missing the might crit and damage modifier.

    This is why I do think it IS WM vs AM, because it seems the devs think it is. When the real problem is that you can use BOTH, even if you don't get the crits and the fact that there is a lot of exclusion that just imbalances things more.

    Nature's DoTs are strong. I get that. I can even see that if they were inclusive, both Nature and Electric would be way too imbalanced compared to all the others and we would have another true FotM. They caught it before it hit live. I get that. My problem is, there are way too many things that just use WM and deal way too much damage.

    Kara gets it here in this post. There are way too many variables and issues with a straight comparison.

    In a post that was pulled by a moderator, I mentioned that my Briar tossed after a successful WM combo hit for 29 against a blocking opponent on the first, largest hit... against a Harpy of all things. Had I used say Transmute or Resonating Gale against that same blocking opponent I would have at least received a yellow number upwards of 200. Maybe even much higher.

    Off to my second WM combo, maybe the harpy releases block and I get a 100 DoT tic for two or three more tics. The tics from Briar start in the hole and will never catch up to the WM / Might crit combos I am releasing via a non-DoT load-out.

    The "awesome mechanic" is A) Power Hungry & B) takes time to realize. In a good DPS group, mobs are going to die anyway before you can get off a good DoT rotation, unless Boss fighting.

    Something like Nature might have great DoT numbers, but with a FAST weapon mastery selection there are too many other options in the non-DoT powersets to ever compensate for them in a genuine combat scenario.

    Combat logs systematically undervalue the might crit since that comes after damage is already done. That makes it more likely to be overkill that isn't recorded. Also, using the long combos, which are popular, will result in more precision damage.

    Anyone can see that the precision portion does more damage than the might crit. You don't get those odd 15k crits on the might portion.

    what's this conclusion based on? there has been no dev statement stating this. unless you can provide a source, this is untrue since the devs specifically explained that wm is supposed to be comparable to the ams and they are intended to be alternatives to eachother.

    because AM don't cancel WM combos... They cancel WM crits.......

    At no point did the devs say that WM crit is being balanced with AM. The op is just trying to pass off a theory as a dev fact to stir up some controversy and get people talking about awesome mechanics.

    The devs have said many times that they will look at WM combo damage. Tunso also did "tests" showing that WM rotations are on par with clip rotations. Yeah right, he also said that HL was doing 2.5x more damage with jump canceling then it does without JC.

    So why test clipping vs WM just like Tunso tested a week ago. Why say that WM will be a equal form of clipping?


    This thread does give me the idea that just getting rid of the WM might crit bonus for all powers would just be better

    They probably will, but not yet. Not until they go through the remaining 5 powersets to give them the Power Mechanics necessary to keep up. WM does give them a chance to somewhat keep up. Though, I do think while the Power Mechanic is in play, they shouldn't get access to crit chance to might attack.

    At first I though WM was the alternative to clipping for those who couldn't clip. Okay. I was able to deal with that concept due to the notion that not every player was able to clip.


    The mechanics,....I'll admit,....no clue on this end.

    Right now,....I see the other extensions on the skill trees and say to myself "Yay,....I can boost up some of those much needed stats on my character."

    So for those of you who are gonna see this post and make the criticisms that I'm not using anything to full potential,....meh. I'm not worried. It's just a game,...not a competition.

    Ugh, at this point I say screw it.

    So many powers are being excluded from the Might crit bonus that I just don't even care anymore. That crit bonus doesn't even do as much damage as the combo finisher, so I'm content with the decrease in damage just to be able to use my powers in the way I see fit.

    Like Avatar said, eventually I see them just getting rid of the Might crit bonus anyway. At this point it would be welcome just to avoid the damn confusion.


    WM was an awesome idea in theory, but the single fact that the combo finisher dwarfs the might crit bonus afterwards completely unravels the entire concept that it was trying to achieve, IMO.

    The only way it could work as advertised is if they took away all that precision damage from the combo and instead put it all into the might finisher. Then it'd be a really tough choice between using awesome mechanic or WM mechanic.

    Edit: It would also encourage skillful timing a LOT more, which is another thing Spytle pitched to us.

    That would favor powers with high burst or big precision hits. IE, gadgets, rage HL.

    One thing the devs have done well is to make sure every powerset gets a fast AoE burst move (they're typically in the range of 30-40 base damage). I believe the only powerset still lacking one is fire, which is getting a revamp next.

    I'm not sure what you mean about the precision part as they're not affected by the big crit from nailing the WM timing. If anything, pushing all the damage into the might finisher would encourage everyone to spec might instead of precision.
