While I think it's unreasonable to ask that chat be permanently fixed, how about when it's reported someone acknowledge it and actually try to fix it?
Well, I see in the GU30 Update Notes that an attempt has been made to correct the issue of mics not working properly if not turned on before the game starts. I tested this yesterday twice. Both times my mic did indeed come on when I turned it on (using an earbud and the stereo headphones - both wireless, both manufactured by Sony for the PS3). Unfortunately, as soon as I joined a group my mic turned off, and players voices started coming through my television.
