Heavens no! Besides, I use "Dad" not "Pop" to refer to my father.

It's more of a regionalism kind of thing than anything else. Where I live is one of the few areas in the US (if not the only one) where drinks like Coke and Pepsi are commonly referred to as pop, so whenever "soda" gets used my first instinct is to say, "You mean pop. You use soda for baking and getting rid of bad smells in the refrigerator." LOL

Over here, believe they are called 'fizzy drinks', or maybe 'soda-pop'
