I agree with you here. Why did they ever put those stupid little symbols above peoples heads. So instead of haveing to learn how the different weapon combo's work in pvp you simply had to play a game of rock paper scissors...so stupid.

I've played other games, too. And have tried other MMOs. Though they were fun I much prefer playing the big orange bird. Been here since launch.......I'll be here until the door closes.

As of now still a fun game. What I don't like...

    1. Easy mode
    2. The scrub mentality- don't ask because a wall of text will follow.
    3. No consistency. Something is always broke. Gets fixed and something else breaks.

Sorry. Gotta ask. What is the scrub mentality? I'll read your wall of text.

It seems any player better than you is called "elitist jerks".

Can you clarify what an elitist jerk is?

Scrub mentality is easy: a person that dont even run a content and talks badly about it.

    What?

    What?

    What?

    What?

Do you even think before typing?

    You say:
#1. Powers are not balanced so some are weaker and some are stronger
#2. This game is too easy

How about you use said weaker powers to play the game. Wouldn't that make the game harder?

    duh......

A recent example of an elitist jerk...

Someone starts a thread saying how he wants to get into raids at the listed CR.

I agree, saying that I have a CR 76 Troller who has never been in gates.

An "Elitist Jerk" comes in, telling me that I, personally, am what's wrong with DCUO, because I want to get carried and try content "undergeared" when I, being so unskilled (he's never met me but knows this automatically) don't have a chance of beating it -- Yes, he admits, good players beat it at that CR back in the day but, and I quote "You LOL You Can't!" when he's never met me, talked to me otherwise, or played with me ---- but that I will get into the raid and fail, then start hundreds of posts crying for nerfs!

Previous to this, I have never asked for a nerf to anything.

You see, he's so uber-god-like (he explains), and I'm such a lowly noob (after 1 1/2 to 2 years of playing) that there's no comparison between us and I need to learn what PoT is before I do any more raids. He knows this because of his psychic L33T powers???

(NOTE: Now, just to honor his L33t wisdom, I give a thumbs-up to every Nerf request there is because I want to ruin this game for him and that seems to be the thing to do it!)

So, basically, an Elitist Jerk is someone who feels the need to tell me how great he is and how noob I am based upon a number, having never run a single instance with me, when he has absolutely no idea how long I've been playing or what I am capable of.

Oh, and there are many many players who are better than me who are not elitist jerks.
Elitist Jerks lack respect, and as such, receive none in return.

    The scrub mentality
I'm not calling anybody a scrub. This is a mentality thing especially for DPS and PvP players.

The derogatory term "scrub" means many different things. One definition is someone(usually a gamer) who isn't good at something( usually a game). By this definition, we all start out as scrubs, and there is no shame in that. I mean the term differently though. A scrub is someone who is handicapped by their own self imposed rules that the game knows nothing about. A scrub does not play to win or be as good as they can be.

Now everyone begins as a poor player and it takes time to learn how to play and know what you're doing. There is a mistaken notion though, that by merely continuing to play or "learn" the game, that one can become a top player. In reality the "scrub" has many more mental obstacles to overcome than anything the game can throw at them. They've already lost before the game even starts. Why? Because they don't play to win(or be as good as they can).

The scrub will take great offense to this because they usually believe they are doing everything they can to be good but are bound by a intricate construct of fictitious rules that prevent them from ever truly competing. Theses rules vary from game to game of course but let's use dcuo as an example.

In dcuo, a scrub labels a wide variety of tactics, weapons, and powers as cheap. This "cheapness" is always the mantra of the scrub. FOTM items are often labeled cheap. Tactics like jump canceling, clipping, or previous phase dodging are often labeled cheap. As far as the game WAS concerned, these tactics were at one point considered intrical parts of the game. So are fotm items. They were meant to be there yet the scrub believed he shouldn't have to learn these tactics to be a top player. They believe skill shouldn't exist and everything should be perfectly balanced to the point that skill isnt needed. Why? Exploring this notion is futile since it is ridiculous from the start.

You will not see a classic scrub use all these tactics. Why?
What if doing so is the strategical sequence that optimizes the chances of winning or being on top? Because the scrub is only willing to play within their own made up rules. This rules can be staggeringly abbitrary . If you beat a scrub using a Fotm its labeled cheap. If you JC or clip its cheap. Nearlyanything you do to beat them is labeled cheap. I used dcuo as an example but you will see this in any competitive game.

This leads to constant nerf threads, crying and complaining. Even though we all have the same tools to work with. Now some core mechanics that have been here forever are changing because of this. Drives me crazy

After all I read about Nexus and Dox, I once said I may never run them...
I didn't call for changes or nerfs... I just said that I'll skip them and stick with Trigon.

Does that make me a scrub?

Gotta admit it is boring atm. Then again, I have a habit of taking a break from this game every spring and summer. Still, I'm more bored than usual.

    My reasons.

1.PVP has become more dps centric with role debuffs and unbalanced ever since the OP ring and there is a huge difference in starter pvp gear and android gear that it pushes out new players to pvp before they can get their feet wet.

    2. Devs have gave in to the solo healer idea by raising restoration over 5000 to encourage more dps centric type raid formulas.

    3. Content has become less strategy and challenge oriented and more stack dps to steamroll it thus decreasing replay value.
    4. Changes are coming in to combat that should have been here in the first place but now you have so many QQ while there is still no balance between might based powersets.
    5. War of Light short lived and short on feats.

Those are some but there are tons more but thats another thread entirely. Mostly I want challenge driven content and balanced powers and this dps centric content to stop. In all seriousness I want DLC 11 to be DLC of the year.

If you dont talk badly about it, not a scrub by that definition.
  19. Derio 15000 Post Club

No a scrub mentality is someone who likes easy mode and would rather content be nerfed than thinking up a strategy.
Scrub mentality is talking bad about existing content before you even try it. Scrub mentality is hoping that every piece of content the devs gives us is steamrollable.

This is not what you prob want to hear but it always mystifies me when people say the game isnt challenging:eek:

Sure, if i sat on my main every time i play i'd get bored of it because ive already grinded almost all the good stuff I want and ive learned how to beat all the alerts and raids the way theyre supposed to be.

But the game has 16 character slots.

Anytimne i can put down my main long enough to have some real challenge on my alts I have literally way too much left to do and donte even know where to begin. This toon's gear is different and doesnt have the utility belt yet so i cant use 4 trinkets like on my main. Challenge accepted. This toon is a level 23 controller and I have to power a complete noob toon run. Challenge accepted. This toon is a nature healer and im just now learning nature and im not that good a healer yet but I gotta not let people die in t5 raids. Challenge accepted. This toon is a villain toon that cant seem to solo anything at all and I don't know how to find the hall of doom. Challenge accepted:p

Point is, [Challenge] Anyone whose main is worth spit the game should be easy to after you are geared and experieced. Try something new. Roll a new alt and make it beast.
