The previews alone make it look weird
Every interview with gadot makes me cringe

My reaction to some people who actually defend it XD

I took Phantom Menace and the rest of the prequels for what they were, not what I thought they should be (as more than a few fans have done). Never really had a problem with them. They were not flawless, but the same could be said about the OT. After all, if Jar Jar hadn't come along I'm sure Star Wars fans would still be complaining about the Ewoks. ;)

As for BVS, I'm going to try to do the same with BVS that I did with the SW prequels, but it may be challenging. Between Marvel setting the bar pretty high and Man of Steel missing more than it hit, it could be tough setting those factors aside.

And 7 was as bad and in many aspects - *cough* speed of light *cough* - even way worse. They hype is just too fresh for the fanbois to realize yet.

    1. Was the movie over-hyped?
Yes, but I don't care about that. Blockbuster type movies are always over-hyped.

    2. Were people being short-sighted by knocking casting (Ben and Gail) before even seeing them act one line of the movie?
Yes, but I also don't care about that. Some people have always had it fixed in their minds that being factually ignorant will somehow convince others that they're intelligent.

    3. Will this movie establish DC in competition to Marvel?
Maybe not, but I don't care about that. Let the accountants sweat over that.

    4. Will this movie entertain me?
I'm thinking yes from what I know so far. And that is all I ever care about in an action movie, because, let's face it, that's what it is and that is what its role is.

So I plan to watch it, enjoy it and let all the other chips fall where they may. That's the beauty of living your life on your own terms. :)

Don't just look at the final score. Try reading the actual reviews and see if the likes, dislikes, and/or criticisms are warranted and similar to what you expect from a good movie. There's no harm in getting more informed, especially when it comes to your money. Just watch out for spoilers.

The "go see it for yourself " is how movies like the Transformers continue to thrive. I'll just say you don't need to eat poop to know that it's going to taste like poop.;)

The reviews for Man of Steel were terrible too. The same people that review movies for a living also gave thor 2, Iron man 2 and 3 higher ratings than MOS.

People are still somehow shocked about the darker tone. "Superman should be fun!" "Why did so many people die when one superhuman being with literally zero training took on a Kryptonian army bred for combat?" "Marvel movies are much more humorous!"

I don't know, because I haven't seen the movie, but I don't get worked up over reviews because generally they're from people looking for something incredibly specific from a movie. I only care that it's good and gets the characters right.

I will always contend that MoS was a decent superhero movie, it just wasn't a Superman movie. Being inexperienced is one thing, causing the deaths of thousands is another and all that destruction made the last scene with Zod moot. Superguy with the x-ray vision and super hearing now that there's a family in front of you in danger, now is the time to end it? And not when there were 5000 other people dying?

And then destroying that drone just because the army was watching him was super lame as well. I'm pretty sure he could of just brought that down without destroying it.

Making Superman so oblivious just to set up a sequel is a disservice to the character. For all their faults in those Marvel sequels, they are never confused when it comes to the characterizations of the main hero.

I thought it was a great superman movie. It dealt with deeper issues that hadn't been covered in really any superhero movie before. The concept of, how would people react if they found out an alien who could fly, tear down buildings and shoot fire from his eyes was amongst them is a cool one to explore.

He didn't cause the deaths though. He was stopping the plan Zod had put in motion. He was stopping the world engine in the Indian sea when Zod was decimating metropolis. When he got there, he took down the general of one of the most advanced civilizations in history with no training at all. He did everything he could to NOT kill him and couldn't bear to see one more life taken that day and killing Zod delivered a huge blow to him (hence the breakdown in the building). Thats how I view it at least.

The drone was to make a point, that they can spend all the money they want, but they won't ever find out who he is. The ONE thing I wish they'd done differently is show him clean up the mess in Metropolis. Other than that, I thought it was an outstanding Superman movie.

I can get behind that, but at any time, they could of shown him caring about what was happening around him during the big battle. They didn't even have to devote a whole scene, a glance here and there of him being upset would of sufficed and actually build towards the final showdown. Grit and determination is fine but It's like he becomes a robot with only one goal in mind for the third act, which seems out of place from the depiction of him earlier in the film.

After all that death and destruction, that's a bad time for Superman to take a stand by causing more destruction.;)

For me, with Man of Steel you had all the talk in the promos (particularly the one with Jor-El's voiceover) about inspiring hope, which fits in perfectly with Superman. But the end product wasn't what I'd call hopeful, and it gets tougher to see any signs of that when you look back on the film.

One review I looked at for BVS says it has more of a "Watchmen" vibe than an "Avengers" vibe to it. Watchmen is good every once in a while, and I did enjoy the film adaptation of it. Snyder did a good job with that. But that doesn't mean you need to fit ALL the DC characters into that mold/setting for a film.

To anyone complaining about the end battle in Man of Steel, yet praising Marvels movies... Isn't that what Civil War is all about? Collateral damage?

Also... I rarely listen to critics. If I want to see a movie at the cinema, I will. I go to the cinema to be entertained, treating it like a fairground ride.

If a movie requires anything more than slight concentration to follow, I'd rather wait and see it at home, where random talk, popcorn munching and cellphones won't ruin it.

Watchmen the comic is always good. Damn good. The movie gets the visuals but lacks the character and depth of the source material.

Apparently there's some people that believe Disney paid critics to write bad reviews on this movie. You guys think thats what happened or are they being genuine?

The movie says it's about hope. It's really about super dudes punching each other over and over but it doesn't matter because they're invincible. It's sci-fi disaster **** that takes itself incredibly serious but is actually just mindless action.

    Edit: lol can't say p o r n

thats possible, I mean you can look at game reviews and clearly tell that some are being paid for. But Disney shouldn't have to worry since their movies are coming out later this year.

Watched the movie before watching the reviews.

I enjoyed the movie. However, Superman is a bit to detached for me to really feel some of the stuff that's happening. I mean, I can understand what may be going through his head but I don't have the emotional connection to really feel for him as much as I may feel for Batman's emotions (anger over feeling powerless while watching what he perceives as a ticking time bomb) and Diana (trying to keep away from it but driven by innate nature).
I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who grew up with Superman (Dean Cain) from the Lois and Clark television series. I feel Superman's plot in the movie could have been sold even better if we were given a bit of insight into his home life before everything comes crashing down on him. Show us more of Lois and Clark's relationship outside of the tights and superheroics. It would make the ending a lot more heavier and make the whole honest heroism vs punishing heroism plot theme more padded.

One of the reviews note that this movie is a thread tie in for the other DCEU movies and I agree. This movie may become more deeper once the other movies come into play (Batman, Wonder Woman).
