Boss attack warning messages, badly thought out?

I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned, the warning messages are pretty poorly thought out/displayed. I noticed this with the last boss in DUO, sometimes I don't notice it or pay attention to it, because on PC we are closer to the screen and on some screen sizes it shows up too high when I am visually focused on the boss itself and not what is going on around my screen.

I guess the experience is not the same for console players, as they are much further away from the screen than a PC player and this is not the first time I've been fooled like this.

Surprisingly, because it's the only game where this happens to me, yes I see that something is displayed, but I don't focus on it and especially to read it, since doing this as an elite, one second of inattention and you all know as well as I do where it can lead us and I'll even go so far as to say, that the message actually thought is rather disturbing

I think this alert should be reconsidered, the idea is not bad though.

Reassure me that I'm not the only one in this same situation! :D

I'm on PC and I think it's fine, if you're entirely focused on the boss and nothing on the periphery then that's an issue. Every part of the HUD is further away from the center of the screen than the warning messages. And there are other tells for those attacks, not just the message.

I wish the messages appeared in the chat box, that way I could just include it in my private chat and not miss it or having it go too fast to read.

In the heat of a fight sometimes it's fast and quick so you gotta pay attention. The issue I always see is many players more so new ignore it completely such as following directions not to attack etc .

I wish i would get a black screen with white text for 3 seconds whenever a mechanic happens so i dont miss it.

Its meant to be overseen! If it wouldnt be, it would annoy you after the 3rd time you see it. Failing is part of the learning curve and over time you wont even need to read those prompts.

Its big red text in the middle of the screen, just slightly above the center. It doesnt get more prominent than that without blocking the view.

Personally I'd be more in favour of a skull and crossbones type icon, but icons that are adapted to certain things, for example an icon that could represent an action that tells the players that they're going to have to block or an icon to say maybe avoid the area.

Another point that I'm going to slip in here is that the attacks where the boss points to where he's going to go, sometimes I don't see that very well because a situation where you're busy looking at something else at the time, I think this type of attack should be more visible with maybe a marking on the ground, I think especially the tank or the latter have a lot of things to watch out for, plus sometimes adds to manage.

The only one I've had an issue with in the newest content is for when Brimstone is going to explode. I've missed the message occasionally and ended up dead because I wasn't paying full attention. I WILL say I am VERY happy with the new indicators they've put in with the green arrows to group up to split the damage of an attack, and the big red arrows meaning "get the heck away from me." The main issue is...people just see an icon on them and run away from the group, no matter what the icon is, so it might take a while for people to get used to better messaging. They have these kinds of indicators in FFXIV and I had suggested them a while back, so I'm glad we're finally getting some better messaging for this stuff rather than just universal indicators used for different types of attacks. There's still room for improvement (such as audio cues along with the indicators), but it's a start.

They could just get rid of that “hand-holdy” crap all together so players learn to actually figure out instances the hard way an fig out me hanics an fig out tells etc.
They’d “git gud” then maybe, just a thought…….

I found it very effective in the past to say "I don't usually do this, but I've come across this new nutritional supplement, that's not sold in stores"

i mostly play ranged/flight, but i was doing LPVE today and i couldnt have told you WHAT the boss looked like or WHAT was on his head for an attack icon, because i was in full on close up melee mode :(

made me wonder how tanks do it :p

It wouldn't change much, because most of the dps on DCUO don't have a brain, because for them, it's just, tap tap tap and tap and nothing else...

Yeah, not a fan of Brimstone's 'oh my head hurts' being the only tell(at times) on his one shot in the Eduo. If you are in melee range, it's a pretty big PITA to try and angle the camera up constantly to watch for that tell. Even ranged, generally his head is off the top of the screen unless you angle back pretty hard.

Agreed, thats why i say the devs dump this “hand-holdy” crap an make good content again. They’d be forced to learn to play then or find themselves leaguless an groupless.

The amount of players who would cry an quit would be hilarious tho

The complaint I hear a lot from people running the new duo is that Brimstone is white and the warning text is also white so it fades into the character and they don't notice it until it's too late. If the text were a different color for that instance I think it would alleviate a lot of people's issues.

It wouldn't help you as much as you think, you know.

I remember on my early days of RL wing chun training. Whenever I got a partner I shook my right fist and said "I'm totally going to attack you now, okay? Get ready to defend". 95% of the time they failed to defend.

So, yeah, even if Mepps enters the game and sends global messages saying "ROLL AWAY FROM THIS AREA NOW!", people will still be hit.

I don't know, this duo have pretty easy ways to tell you the bad things are coming. The furies have you marked for quite a while before delivering their hits, Brimstone not only have those red markings but his explosion is also marked by his HP. Every third HP lost he "explodes". As for Darkfather, just lunge when he says "Omega Beams".

What if, when a mechanic is about to happen, we just take control of your character to perform what's needed? :p

Figuring out and managing ideal camera angles is 50% of tanking. At least for me anyway.
