Base Off: Places Wild CELEBRATION!

And so the first part is completed... as always, the community of builders did not let us down and all the bases are beautiful... and as always, I came to the stream with adventures (this time I didn’t oversleep ... I forgot my connection to Twitch (to be honest, I didn’t remember if I even have it ...), so I watched the stream, but I didn’t get to participate in the conversation
By the way, I thought that Lycan would also participate directly in the stream...

Definitely a great first showing for the night, and I'm happy you could join in! Even if it was just to watch.

As for stream participation, the guest judge spot is a way to collaborate with other members of the DCUO community but in a more laxed way. For touring, I usually like to go the solo route since more bodies can be cumbersome, especially in tight knit bases and the cameras in the game being how they are. Also, if the participant has something set up, like their own narration or interactions, I want that to be reflexed as smoothly as possible. I just know from filming with multiple people at once that the touring aspect kinda takes a backseat to the people moving around, which I wanna avoid since the night's mainly about enjoying the entries first and foremost. The judge guest gets to set their own rules for judging, their prize pools, and even gets to help in the theming sometimes, as well as have a blurb in the conclusion video.

So last night during the stream, We entered the study and you opened and closed the secret door to the Cave.
I didn’t realize that from your perspective, the door was invisible and you were doing that to show it.
When I went in and spent time making last minute tweaks before your arrival, I made sure to set the door so that it would be seen!
You said you were playing on PS5 early on so I wonder if that had something to do with it.
(I had considered putting a genuine large mysterious bookcase there as a “just in case” but decided against it!)

And so the second day is over... although I couldn’t watch the whole stream ;( since today I became a self-proclaimed chef... I had to take a break to cook lunch and an “experimental” dessert (at first glance it worked out... not bad.. .)... but what I managed to see looks phenomenal

Well, I’ll add “a few” clarifications about my base

Firstly, as I mentioned before... the conditions of stay are very dependent... on the bribe... someone was able to provide themselves with a very comfortable cell (studio, jacuzzi... gym...) and someone was able to get a cramped room in which there is not even places will turn...and somewhere someone gave a bribe to add additional security measures, as happened with someone like "Darksaid"....

Further, as you yourself noticed in the base there are many references to other bases... and sometimes to something else (for example, a camera with bats is at the same time a reference to both my other base and to Dracula impaler with his vampire brides...). ..

And finally, the scenes in the cells are not entirely clear... and what will be taken there largely depends on the beholder... perhaps there is a pillow fight... or perhaps something much more gloomy (perhaps even more gloomy than it seemed at first glance...), perhaps "Brainiac" is having fun playing ping-pong with himself... or perhaps this is a form of psychological torture... perhaps "doomsday" has secured a cell with training equipment for himself... or perhaps the "administration "conducts underground prison fights without rules...

And yes, it was past the entry date, but since almost everyone got an extra week to tweak their entries (from my own irl delays) I don't think that'd mind the company. Besides, Base Off's pretty lax for a contest and is more about the community coming together to celebrate what we've made.

That being said, you were definitely featured last night and we all very much enjoyed your entry! The spectrum fractal world of varying emotions and their environments was great! The Zamaron crystal cavern was amazing, but that wrathful artifact room was amazing. Really nice work! Thank you for sharing with us, and if you'd like to talk bases whenever, we have a Base Crafter's discord as well as an in-game custom chat too that's always looking for base decorators and enthusiasts alike.

Oh really? That's interesting! I can't remember if I phased or warped into your base. I know if you have a load screen the glitch persists but if you phase it tends to stay how it was. Wonder if that's what happened, haha!

First two nights of streaming done and it has been AMAZING so far!!! Some truly inspiring bases. Out of the box thinking, each one has been unique and really well thought out. Not making any comments on the bases here about specific bases as I don't want to scew opinions of the judges before all the bases have been previewed.

As for the CorruptPrison, aaaah.. the ol' 'pay to win prison system as well as 'is the glass half empty or half full' mentality for the story. Very interesting and intriguing. Though I have a feeling I know which way all the cells probably lean towards, I do appreciate you allowing me to choose which route it is and given the theme of that first cell, I'm probably gonna almost always choose pillow fight. >_>'

Either way though, the execution of the base was phenomenal and the build up to that pentagram water ritual room was amazing! I really loved the mad painted throwback too, as well as the visiting area. Really well done, sir. Thank you again for sharing your creativity and amazing use of statuary with us!

Ya! I mentioned that in the tour, how the more serene lanterns had a ethereal, heaven aesthetic, there was a terra level for the more grounded lanterns, and then the infernal depths for the more volatile emotions. It was a delight, and I cannot wait to see what you do with it knowing you have a ton more spots left to embellish everything!

I like your interpretation of what happens in the first cell ... although I’ll be honest, initially I included 3 scenarios in the scene (one scarier than the other...) but now this scenario will also be an integral part of the possible story

Initially, the fairy tales of the Grim brothers were not intended for children at all... and had truly terrible and frightening things in them... then they were adapted for children... the idea of ​​the base was to scatter scenarios that could be interpreted in different ways... well, yes I am more inclined to the “bad and worse” option than to the “good and bad” option, but as I already said, it all depends on the beholder

I KNEW there was a fairytale aspect somewhere in there! Haha! And yes, the true Grimm tales are pretty horrible at times, down right vile in some, so I totally get that. And hey, that's how fables evolve too, right? Passed down and altered slightly between generations. I just happened to jump to pillow fighting preemptively instead of waiting that long, haha!

And no worries at all! I've been having good turnover with the HD VODs so long as editing/rendering isn't needed, so it should be out 5-6 hours after the initial stream on YouTube.

I did wanna ask too, and this goes for any other people who watched live kicking around, was the Friday night stream better than Sundays? I'd assume yes given the usual work week, so I was thinking of scheduling future Base Offs with Wednesday being the cut off and livestreams on Friday nights.

so your baseoff streams would be Friday Saturday and Sunday if needs be? btw i think splitting it up was a great idea might wanna consider keeping that for all baseoffs (depending on entries of course but lets face it this is getting pretty popular).

I looked on Twitch while there is such an opportunity, YouTube is good for a second viewing, but for the first it’s better on Twitch because you can see the comments of other people with whom the interaction is taking place The bases are great as always... but it couldn’t be any other way, a community of builders put their heart and soul into their projects and in principle can no longer fall below the level of “wonderful”.

achikah, thank you for the kind words on the base. i worked hard on it (and am still in the process of finishing) and i consider it hands down my masterpiece. once i had the basic concept i decided to play with curves and angles in such a SQUARE base and i think i quite pulled it off. the only other project i've been working on is our league hall and that's aaaallllmmmmoooosssstttt done, just one more room to go but i've hit The Wall and now i'm just trying to come up with something for the room with the training dummies in it. if you would like to tour it i'll get with our permissions guy to put you on the list for that as well.

Well folks, the wildcard is turning out to be a bit more wily than anticipated, so the Base Off: Places Wild winner video will be delayed yet another week. Again, so sorry for the inconvenience with everything. Good news is, the next few months were scheduled to be a break for myself to hammer out the upcoming year's Base Offs, so this won't delay future contests, only shorten that break duration.
