Back From the Hack Feat

Probably wanted to avoid two types of threads like this and just have the one. Chances are the complaining of the people who didn't have the Hack feat made them decide not to do another one to avoid more out cries at a later date.

This is why we can't have nice things.

You calling a deliberate concerted attack, a 'glitch'?

That '10 day glitch' of yours occurred when you didn't have to pay for continued play (or even pay anything at all)

Your 'opinion' is not reasonable at all, nor does it have anything solid to back it up, that is why it's a 'whine'

The way folks lose their ******* minds over a few hours of downtime, can you folks who werent around please try to imagine how it must have been for a five week downtime?

On the PC side, whole leagues fell apart when players just didnt come back. In that five weeks time, players moved on to other games. I personally tried out Champions Online and City of Heroes, and even fiddled around with Freedom Force and its sequel, and I'm sure I'm not unique in that regard. Others went back to WoW or left for Rift. The most populous US pc pve server at the time was Zero Hour, and even that was a ghost town. It was horrible after the hack.

This was after paying 50bucks for the game and when there was no free-to-play or buy-dlcs-as-you-go model. Folks flip the **** out now for just a few hours if downtime. We talking about 30+ days of downtime, and a sizeable portion of the playerbase simply didnt come back.

Think about that.



PS - I don't really care about half a skill point either way. If I were at cap, I might care but I'm not. I would gladly give up half a skill point for the title "OG". That would a good trade off. Then, we'd see these threads every 3 months anout the title instead.

Man you sure love to nitpick. Fine, a 10 day glitch versus 30 days of downtime for a hack. Happy now that i worded better? Either way in both cases the game was unplayable.

And my opinion is absolutely reasonable. If it wasnt then you wouldnt be so defensive about it and telling me to "shut the hell up" like a child. So once again, youre the one here whining, not me. Im not here begging for the feat to be deleted from people or just given to everyone. Youre the one here begging for people to shut up though lol.

Sorry but that whole situation you guys went through and it's consequences still don't justify that free 50 points feat mostly because all of you got to play for free for the amount of time the servers were down and on top of that the whole idea behind these feats is that you have to earn them not pay for them or get them for free. If the devs wanted to give a feat as bonus for those who bought the game then i'm pretty sure they would have announced it but that's not the case so i don't see why people keep bringing this up as an example or argument.

Giving away unique cosmetics is one thing and a lot of game companies do it via pre-order or collector's edition. Giving away something for free that you would normally have to work for in order to get it is entirely another thing. As far as character progression is concerned i believe everybody should have the same chances and i think this is what bothers most people about that feat. If the devs have any common sense they should take into consideration some of the feedback here, but we all know the chances are slim at best.

1.Remove the feat and give the players a title instead called: "Hack Survivor".
2.Give all the rest and all the new players a similar feat called: "Back for the Hype".

"Back for the Hype" - Feat description: Login again to the game after 30 days.

Sorry for being a bit sarcastic but that's pretty much what all of you had to do to get this feat.

It was a "thank you" for coming back. Does that make sense to you? It actually said that in the announcement. I could probably find it online if you'd like.


Also, lol@ at ALL feats being about skill. Doing 500 alerts is not skill. Picking up 10,000 exobits is not skill. Doing 100 Toyman missions is not skill.

Nowadays, I can random queue an alt into a 3 year old raid and get feats galore, unrelated to my skill or the skill of the 162 players in there who were probably carried to their CR by players with actual skill.

I already knew it was a thank you gift, the point i was trying to make was the fact that the gift itself is related to character progression and that's where the biggest complaint lies with most of us that don't have it. Read my post again maybe you'll understand it a little bit better.

Even most of the farming feats require more skill then the "Back from the Hack" feat.

Sorry for not agreeing with the developers to give people free character progression related stuff.

It was simply a different game back then. They don't offer Feats anymore as those type or rewards, it was a one time thing. And they aren't going to remove it from existing players.

So all this discussion or complaining is for nothing.

You are absolutely whining. You used the word 'punished' when you commented on not having this feat, a little perspective.

What do you want exactly? Do you want 17 points for your 10 days of issues. Do you want the feat stating you're back from the hack even though you weren't there? Do you want the devs to use resources retracting the feat & devising other ways to show gratitude to the players who hung in there, at the detriment to other things?

The decision was made back in the day, it done, get over it, stop whining & move on. This feat is of zero consequence for anyone who has a life

I still don't know what 10 day outage for PS3 he's even talking about. It's not like the whole game was down, if PS4 and PC were working.

Also, I remember one Christmas where PS4 couldn't get on for a few days, but PS3 could. It's all just peanuts compared to the PSN Hack / Outage.

This will continually be subject to debate and in the overall picture, nothing about what happened back when this was given will ever change. There is no reason, in either instance -- for or against -- to get worked up about those characters still in the game who have this feat and those who do not.

Remember:

1. All of the characters who have this feat were created and on the various affected active servers prior to April 17-18, 2011.
2. At that time, all accounts were subscriber accounts -- there were no subscriber tiers and the current subscription model was not in place until September 2011.
3. The reward was only given to characters which had already been created on a given account; new characters created AFTER the servers were restored on May 14th, 2011 did not receive either the hoodie or the feat.
4. The progression reward was likely given because at the time, even playing casually, it might have been considered that all of the affected players would have earned at least that many feat points over 27-28 days if they were playing instead of sitting.


The reward was those subscribers who'd been forced to miss almost a full month of their paid subscription time. In addition, all accounts that existed at the time of the outages played for free for roughly 40-50 days (July) before subscription payments were resumed AND those who maintained those subscriptions were also gifted with the Fight For The Light DLC as a permanent entitlement.

This really shouldn't be a debatable thing and this discussion should have been put to bed some 5 years ago considering it was a time when the overall survival of the game was most in jeopardy. The outage did give way to overall better communication between the developers and this community.

These type of discussions are here to remind them of something called common sense. I remember when Marks of Merit feats required money to be completed then they suddenly removed that requirement. It's their game sure they can do whatever they want but that don't make it right.

Really, do you see me asking for the feat to be given to people? Do you see me asking the feat to be deleted from people that have it? No, i am asking for nothing in return. The only time a person whines is when they want something. So far others have whined because they wanted me to "shut the hell up" because they had no other valid points to give.

I simply stated that its a silly feat to be given to people who did not earn anything with in game skill (or grind), and then thats when others started to whine about what i said. Using the word punished means nothing regarding the matter, so theres no perspective to be had there. I only used it as a comparison for people who also had to deal with the hack, but were playing other games.

Im guessing they didnt come back because of the downtime and what happened with their info. If i was playing back then yea it would of been really hard for me to stick around with what happened.

Personally, I HIGHLY doubt it caused people to flee in droves, like the way you describe it, much less cause new players to stay away. -but if ANYBODY was ever so great a freakin' WHINER that they'd left the game over a single stupid feat, we're all much better off without them. Good RIDDANCE!

Obviously the glitch was a big deal to PS3 players and the devs too if they felt the need to compensate those who had to deal with it. They gave us loyalty points for it instead.

And i dont know how many times i have to write it. Yes, its not as long as the hack, but if they wanted to continue rewarding feats as compensation for downtime then if 30-37 days equals a 50 point feat, then 10 days equal 10 points. Its simple math. Like i said, its silly to reward feats for compensation for downtime.

So having your financial info out there for people to grab, use, and take advantage of isnt justification? Lets give your credit card info out on the net and see how u feel about that.
