Armory Switch Timer Why?

Is there any real reason why if i switch roles in a raid i shouldn't be able to switch back once said role i'm standing in for is picked back up? is there any legit reason why this timer needs to be in game?

More annoyance than for balancing reasons.

What I do is getting knocked out and before accepting the revive, switch so the "in-combat" timer doesn't apply. I don't know it that only works on PC or if it works on PS too.

I guess it was so that things wouldn't be made too easy. If you're only switching because someone is knocked out (and not yet actually out of the fight) you could just wait to see if the person gets revived or not before switching. It's only about 10 seconds, and barring a catastrophe most groups should be able to survive that long if only one person is down, even if it's the tank or healer.

Someone hasn't been into panopticon elite.

Because it would be abused and things would be easier then they already are. Idky anyone would switch roles because someone is down. Switch when a role is lost and out. And imo panopticon elite isnt even that tough. Escape elite is clearly the tougher elite raid.

I believe it's for technical reasons, since the animation lasts for 1 second. Insta-switch would mean animation and sound stacking, which would lead to a very loud sound and laggy/glitchy graphics, not to mention lagging.

    Wow..nice response.
FYI when they launched armories they specifically said they did this so it wasn't abused (ie making things too easy)

I guess someone hasn't been around long enough to know this.

Unless it's been changed since August, all you need to do is move out of the area of combat and switch.
As long as you're within "range" you can't switch but once out of it (even with the timer still active) you were able to switch roles/armories.

Er, yes I have. If you read my post again I said "barring a catastrophe, most groups should be able to survive long enough..." If you're in elite and a boss wipes your members pretty quickly one by one then that falls under the "catastrophe" category in my book. Can't say that really happened in Panopticon elite for me though aside from the first time we ran it when we were learning how to deal with it.

    Someone shouldn't assume things.

I always chalked it up to this (along with the possibility of abuse).

I must've deleted my old video I recorded way back when armories first launched. Luckily, I found someone else's. I believe this was one of the reasons why they "restricted" armory-switching. It was so bad that you could even use it in legends pvp. Although, it shows the timer in the video. Hmm. Someone tell me if I'm remembering things wrong or something.

did you switch roles in the middle of combat? cause there is a combat switch lock down if you did..
  14. SirTanksAlot Level 30

Fair enough, my apologies for assuming. what happened in my case was that all 3 dps we had went tank when the tank died, so while we beat it, it took a while.

Because it would be easily abused. Oh I'm a dps, Oh I'm a DPS that's about to die; *Switches to healer* alright I'm fully healed.

*Switches back to dps* now I can do moar burn. Oh I'm about to die again.. *switches back to healer*

No worries, I get how frustrating it can be when a group wipes. And we're all probably guilty of assuming things from time to time, no harm no foul. :)

switching won't stop you from dying if you're actually about to die, it still takes time to swap.

Out of combat, there is a minor delay which is there just to keep armory switching's impact on server performance reasonable.

In combat, we felt and feel like the opportunity for extreme switching would trivialize or make armories required. Everyone go DPS, everyone go tank, back to DPS - just in the course of how a fight proceeds and really making certain phases of fights easier. With the timer and the normal length of boss fights, it's a one-way trip, and that's by design.

  19. BumblingB I got better.

The problem with the in combat switching is that if you switch roles, you are also switching gear. In doing so, you are essentially naked and die rather quickly. Has there been any headway on that fix?
