Anyone get past the 'follow suspicious civilians' part of intro mission?

Stuck on the mission to follow the civilians to the demon hideout. They have the same symbol as the eavesdropping mission, so I'm guessing it's the same mechanic...get close, but not too close. However they keep resetting to their original positions after about 10 steps...or if they do walk a while, they walk through a building and disappear. Anyone get through this part yet, or is it just bugged out?

Yeah if you find a witness and they want to show you a clue they can glitch and wall thru a wall and you can either not get the clue or lose them. Best to totally stand aside and give them room so they can walk freely. Pets can block them too. Don't engage adds on the way or you'll lose the witness. Also be careful I think other heroes and villains can swoop in and take your clue and you might not credit. Don't do the beginning missions in a full phase. By the way lf you do 3 of JCon's missions you get credit for Event but you can't open the Open World until you complete them. Gonna be fun on alts huh? Goodluck!

They should walk towards a cellar at the side of the building and disappear. When the do, an entrance should appear for you to go inside.

Yes, but i'm not talking about THAT glitchy mission...this is another glitchy mission that comes later. The civilians aren't disappearing so much as resetting to their origin point, so they never make it to the spot they are supposed to. The disappearing is just an added bonus. This comes way after the 'talk to witnesses' nonsense.

Talking to a ton of NPCs, endless fetch quests, escort mission....it's like all the worst things from every other game all rolled into one...then glitches thrown in for flavor.

Andy yes...super fun on alts to re-run and 'experience' the same hour long glitchy mission.

So I take it you DID make it through? So far none will walk further than about 10 or 15 steps before setting back. I'm probably going ot bail on it for today and hope a fix is put in tomorrow. I've already got my point for today, so what use is there in playing any more?;)

I also got through it with no issue. First NPC I followed went straight there.

I hate that other players can interfere with the eavesdropping mission, though. That was getting aggravating...

Yeah sorry I swear I talked to witnesses only to talk to more witnesses it all blends together. Oh do you like we saved local heroes only to save local heroes again? :D

And don't forget the many MANY trips back to the Pub. I think I spent more time in this pub than I did the IIRL bar over the weekend.

NOTE: It does work, but ideally follow a civilian who is directly in front of a cellar door. The ones up the street will fail to get there.

switch phases and hope that phase isn't glitching.

When they walk through a building and disappear, *that* is where the cellar is. Go to where they vanished, and a portal should appear, but it took several seconds for it to materialise - so long that I nearly missed it and was in the process of moving off to try another Civilian.

After doing this a couple times I just ran around to everyone till I found one that gave me a portal. Again this has to be the worst waste of time mission. Imagine waiting for NPCs to do something so you can progress to the next subjective? It's just a test of patience.

I had the same issue and stumbled across the entrance more or less by luck (I kind of figured the direction they were travelling before snapping back, and looked around). But my OH didn't have any problems.

I tried that, although it could be I didn't wait log enough. These were civilians who didn't do the bend down and disappear part of the animation, but just popped backwards 10 feet and started walking again. I don't think the portal was activated. I've since got it figured out by picking only ones who are close enough to just take 2 steps and open the door.

It took about ten minutes before the NPC finally went around the corner. Then another player dropped down right in front of the NPC and waited for the "!" to appear over her head, then left. Fortunately, she was close enough to the entrance that when she went back to "oblivious mode," the entrance appeared.

So yeah, you just have to wait until the NPC stops glitching enough to proceed. And hope some griefer doesn't come along and make it take longer.

Once I did find it on one character, which was a bear because of the bugginess, I knew where to go. That specific citizen near the entrance seemed to trigger the opening, regardless, when I stood a couple of yards away on my second character.

    Yes. I did.

Another method I used was just keep switching phases, and I found one with open portals.

Remember when we could just beat up demons to get what we wanted instead of just standing around hoping the instances don't glitch? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

I have done the story twice so far and I have had to switch phases a couple of times in each play thru to complete that instance properly.
