Amost every year dcuo is reinventing itself

This will be like the third time the devs have fully rearranged a part of dcuo. First it was pvp, then how weapons work, and now the new system in u47. I don't know if the new system gonna be good or bad, but i want to know why do dcuo seem like a different game almost every year? I played ffxi for 4 years, so all mmos don't work this way, in my experience dcuo is the only one.

I wish the devs figure out what they want dcuo to be and stick with it

Frankly everytime the devs re invent something it gets worse pvp for example.

It does slightly bother me that the game came out over 4 years ago, there's been 46 game updates and 4 DLCs, and they still don't seem to know their long-term plans.

But I just kinda sit in the boat and enjoy the ride down the river I suppose.

Maybe next year they'll reinvent themselves again.

    That's a fair criticism.

Inconsistency is something that could really turn players off.

This I very much agree with.

I can't imagine what playing this game is like for someone that doesn't visit the forums every day. With how poorly things are explained in game, it's no wonder we have so many bad players.

How would you know about Weapon Mastery, Advanced Mechanics, not needing PVP gear, needing all pieces of a PVP gear set to move forward, etc. And this is all in the past year.

I wonder, how do they intend to inform players what "bracket" they are in to receive Marks for the content they are playing? Will they continue to just let people figure it out on their own? How many threads will there be like "Hey I just ran X instance and received no Marks, WTF?"

Enough with trying to reinvent the wheel. Why not spend some time on the hundreds of QoL issues and some player retention for a bit?

Change is the essential nature of all things.

the question u shud be asking is. what exactly do the gamers wants and not what the devs want

For the tier brackets, they'll be shown in the on duty menu when queuing for an instance. It'll say if you're over a certain combat rating you'll only gain the loot drops and no marks.

But otherwise, all of this could be solved with a proper help section, organising a paragraph or two to explain the ins and outs of the game. You could split it into pvp and pve and how the roles work etc.

Should only take a few hours to type them up, and it would help so many new players get into the game.

I hope you never get married and/or have kids! /sarcasm

I see an MMO like DCUO to be a commitment. Just like a contract, you can't be changing it, else someone will feel cheated. The OP mentioned these changes: "First it was pvp, then how weapons work, and now the new system in u47", but changes come from way before then! We had a dozen marks (krypton, momentum, etc), shared loot, "influence" and other different systems/currency in the game. I can see the appeal on the developer for keeping things "fresh", but I can't condemn players for having enough of it.

I suppose in the long run it doesn't matter... they are going to do what they are going to do.

I feel the same old urgency that I should be logging the hours and getting ready for this update... but I'm not doing it.

As I said in another thread:
I'm at a point where I just don't care. The game changes too much.
It's like the Dev team doesn't know what to do - so they keep trying stuff.

I don't have any trouble paying for the game - I just want a stable, consistent product.

Unfortunately for them, and in-turn us, they are trying to please the masses. If you've ever tried doing that, you'll quickly found out that it doesn't work very well. I doubt you can even decide on dinner for your family and have everyone be happy with it every night.

And change and evolving is a good thing. Otherwise we would all still be living in caves and playing with sticks and dirt.

First I am married with children which has taught me that change is indeed always happening. Poor attempt at sarcasm. As to the game we have no contract with the creators as to the direction the game takes. We have the option to voice opinions and leave if w don't like what they do. Nothing more. They do not owe us anything in that area. Every MMO a I have ever played has undergone fundamental changes at one time or another.

On one hand, I can certainly see how the inconsistency would be infuriating for some folks - especially people who come and go a few times a year.

On the other hand, I think that it's a great sign of the health of the game. If the devs were planning to shut it down any time soon, they wouldn't bother trying to make it better. :D

3 major changes in 3 years happens to every mmo? I played ffxi for four years and it basically stayed the same except for new content. From what i hear alot of changes has happened since i left in 2008. Dcuo need to find it's identity and stick with it.
Forums are for debating opinions, no where did i say dcuo owed me anything. Life changes and game changes are 2 different things, one can be controlled for the most part, and the other can't

That's subjective, and a personal opinion.

Not all change is good. Drastic change in the real world on many different levels often results in the loss of life. In this case it could mean the loss of many players, and their money.

I remember when I started playing nobody had any idea about anything like it was all a big secret and that was back when everybody paid to play to me that's always been one of the problems with this game .

Insecurity by the current team and the fact that the original design team had a philosophy to deliver a uniquely DC experience celebrating the IP source whereas the current team seem only interested in arbitrary and generic additions around time sinks with story and character tertiary considerations at best....more shiny collectibles rather than more substance is a sad trend.

Everything changes. Everything. No two ways about it. I'm not saying all change is good ...but it is inevitable. New company decides on a new direction...change.

Nor is it good for the company who had the bright idea to make a change. Ask Coca Cola how New Coke worked out for them. Change isn't necessarily inevitable when it comes to people, it's usually forced upon people against their will.

change is always inevitable. Inevitable means it happens whether we want it to or not.
