    This is just completely wrong.

This isn't inhospitable environment though. You can easily find a group with whatever sp/cr you have for any type of content.

I can level up a toon from 1 to 106 in 2 weeks, in that time i can run races, get the briefings and investigations, and get someone to let me into mentor instances for those few ones, get the explorer feats from alerts and open world, get the completion feats on alerts, raids and events (if available), get gear feats for T1 to T3 (since t4 is 4 pieces it takes longer). Within the same time I get 106 CR, I can easily get 100 SP, like I said it's not about SP or CR, it's about the player ability to do things right.
  4. The God New Player

Well, I thought that by saying, getting sp, you meant maxing it.

They get carried or they glitch.

    Can't tell if sarcasm.

The devs make the rules and have already put into place the guidelines they feel are appropriate and fair for players to run certain content. If your CR is at a certain point, you are eligible to run that content. Period. End of story.

Some players, however, feel they should be able to make the rules and have tried exercising this as best they can by asking for overinflated, outrageous and even ridiculous CR levels AND skill point totals, regardless of what the devs have already determined. In fact, one of those numbers doesn't factor into the devs' determination of content eligibility, yet people are determined to use it as a measuring stick of worthiness for running content. And they try to do all this without being able to actually see the numbers they think are so important.

Give players the ability to see those numbers and you've just given players the ability to set the rules as they see fit, which gives them the actual power to deny other players the chance to run content that the devs have already determined the players are eligible to run. Worse, you give griefers a whole new toy to use against other players. If this kind of ability were available, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear of someone (or worse, groups) being petty, vindictive and cruel enough to use that info to decide someone isn't qualified (in their eyes) to run a seasonal instance, content that is aimed at ALL PLAYERS.

And making the info optional wouldn't work because in this thread alone you have people jumping to the conclusion that people who didn't show the info would be liars or have something to hide and wouldn't even give a player a chance at all because of it.

Players have the right to ask for a lot of things, including the people they group with. That doesn't necessarily mean they're entitled to get what they ask for.

Your walls of text are always a wonder to read! The level of understanding you display is unreal in this day and age of entitlement minded children. And I actually learn something.

Usually when I see a mountian of text I roll my eyes, but yours I just fill up my wine glass and enjoy!

Sorry. Just had to give you kudos. :)

I have completed most all content of this game. In all my 3+ years I've only been kicked once. I even run in groups outside of my league. I know how to form efficient groups. I know how to insert myself into efficient groups.

I don't need to know any numbers whatsoever. That knowledge is useless.......completely useless. It person behind the keyboard.....or controller....is all that matters. And that is a complete 100% fact!

So why are we being restricted? Why aren't we allowed to show our sp? I fail to understand how that's any different from forcing anyone to show his sp.

That may be the case for veteran players who have friends, support groups, or know their way around. But victims of elitist exclusion are rarely those who've invested years into building themselves up in this game. They tend to be more casual players or just starting out, trying desperately to catch up in the great rat race. Those people don't tend to know the raid mechanics or boss fights very well, few people are patient enough to teach them, and low end content is underpopulated. They grind through to the upper tiers only to find even more barriers to content, mostly because people always demand maximum gear-SP for even 1-2 content tiers ago, never mind the most recent one.

I'm not saying anyone has an obligation to extend a helping hand to those people. It would be nice if you did, but you don't have to. However, as much as possible, I think it is upon us to curb the insular culture that we've developed and all games tend to develop. It's bad for the community and frankly, it makes us a bunch of jerks. And no one in their right mind should be proud or defensive about being a jerk.

I like easy street just as much as the next guy. I love to steam roll content. If I find myself queued up or PUGing with a beast group as overgeared as I am, I'm relieved that there won't be any problems. But on the occasions where I end up with weak links, I try my best to carry my weight and pick up the slack if possible. And if it doesn't work out, so be it. But this whole prejudicial process, kicking people, or making them feel self-conscious by interrogating them about their SP count, or inspecting their gear and second-guessing their fitness. That clownery should be out the door in a hurry.

Let's be honest now. Most people aren't going to be using that system to "show off" their SP so much as discriminate against those who don't have them. I think doing whatever we can to avoid more instruments of exclusion is worth the price of not allowing people to show off.

If you think that every person who wants visible sp is selfish, then you are wrong. Whenever I'm running anything with my league and we know we are enough to assure victory, we take anyone regardless of their sp/cr/gender/footsize. And visible sp wouldn't change that. If you want to change something, change the community instead of restricting everybody. I have as much right to show my sp as anybody has to not do this, and whatever we do with that information is up to us.
  15. The God New Player

As I already said, if you want to change something, change community. The tool isn't a problem here, it's entirely harmless.
  16. August Wisdom New Player

I understand that you yourself are not being discriminatory, but I think it's a bit much to ask for something so you can show off when that very same thing can be very harmful and hurtful to others. If you want to brag about your SP, by all means you can shout it out into every channel. It doesn't hurt anybody. But a system where SP can be inspected, even if there is an option to hide it, will severely and negatively impact a large swath of players in our community (for reasons discussed by others above). I hope you're understanding enough to put up with the inconvenience of not having another piece of swag, in order to shield those people from that harm.

I honestly don't think that visible sp would be as harmful as most of you are saying it'd be. But if so many people oppose this idea then it doesn't have to and won't be implemented. I'd rather have difficulty settings for raids so there'd be something else to do in this game than farming sp.
  18. August Wisdom New Player

Believe me, it would be awesome if an entire gaming community were filled with decent people. But that's not the reality and it's implausible for us we could make it so. The best we can do is to mitigate bad practices as much as we can, and as players, set the tone for decency and tolerance. Unfortunately, SP inspections are among such bad practices. Or would be, if it was instituted.

To be honest, gear inspection is already a terrible bane. I wish they'd remove it. If people can enter content, then they can enter content. Now speaking from experience, I don't think everyone who is eligible to enter content is capable of completing it. In that regard, I think DCUO needs to tweak the requirements so that people who enter content are not utterly overmatched. But it would have been better from the beginning if people could only rely upon the success and failures of their partners, rather than being given means to prejudge them.
  19. Feenicks New Player

Why would you WANT to show your SP?

We try to help when we get a PUG into our group. We fully realize that each and every one of us was once that lowly ....uh......noob.
