Yeah I can see your point with that. A suggested minimum (possibly with a brief description in red saying that certain mechanics cannot be completed without X number of people) would definitely work better rather than a forced minimum.
If having to watch cutscenes in the few duos it's able to be passed on, is the biggest price we have to pay to get AQS (or whatever the end result is), I'll pay it gladly....and I'm one of those that NEVER misses the skip button. Besides most DUOs pop pretty quick, I'd guess most will still just queue up for those unless they are very old ones.
Just playing devils advocate with my own opinion, but here are my thoughts on your questions...I'm sure (because they have come up when this idea is brought up in the past) there are others who have differing opinions.
I think as a whole the community will benefit. There are a LOT of users who can and would run solo or duo on a lot of runs...right now they can't. That means either a slog through LFG to get 7 others OR they queue into a run. If they queue into a run they are going to meet up with either A) a bunch of people who are similar CR/skills who would also have run solo. B) low level people who are fine with a carry or C) low level people who are going to be mifffed they are basically watching someone else kill everything.
The change would help groups A and C directly(IMHO) as the other As could get in as they want...solo, duo whatever. Group C could either put together a short group of like minded people (as you mention, the older content is hardly a struggle anymore) and go in properly at level or with a higher level who is 'helping' them to the extent that is needed...but still allowing them to have some fun. Group B can still get a carry, but they will have to either wait in a longer queue for it or find an escort to get them through the content. All of the groups benefit by not having to wait for 7 other people...either to join a group or queue up.
I don't think content will need to be adjusted other than if they wanted to simplfy cogs or extend timers to make them doable with solo/duo players vs the 3 or 4 that are needed today. I'd say you don't have to do this and you let the users figure out what the required number is by either looking it up on YouTube or figuring it out by trial and error like everyone did our first runs. Again, as I mentioned in another post, no one should be looking to run solo or duo on a raid their first time.
As far as the Dox glitch, my understanding of the issue was that it was tied to walking in to that particular raid, so they shut down the walk-in. There are several walk-in points you can use today and solo or duo a raid if you want. If the 'walk-in' or ability to solo something that is NOT designed for solo or anything less than 8 was a global issue, they'd have shut all the walk-in points. As someone who used to solo Paradox every week (didn't realize there was a glitch...so I guess I missed out) I can tell you its harder today than it was before they shut the door...not easier. I used to be able to finish it in under 2 min solo....now if I solo it (meaning I go in with 7 otherwise non-participating 'fillers' it takes 6 or 7 minutes most times....much longer if the Tyrant gets into his 'shield' phase. And my CR is much higher than before the walk-in was shut down.
For the impact on people learning their roles, I don't think it will change. Most people in the game who join, do so to pew-pew-pew and only learn a role out of necessity or because they become invested in the game enough to WANT to learn, so they find someone (or use YouTube....or here in the forums) to teach them. That's still pretty much a 1 on 1 process. I'm not sure how many people have 'learned' their role by jumping into a queued up group and discovering they could heal if needed...or troll or tank.
As far as solo-centric challenges, it kind of comes with the territory. The ability to solo something that was built for a group is something people already do for a challenge. Go watch any of the vids posted with people solo running world bounties or alerts...4 man Elite raid runs. Yeah, they could put in some more, but let's get that down the line. Let's just get the change in first...then start tweaking it for fun and prizes.
Just as a little follow-up, I tried doing the Flashback duo by myself recently (loaded in with two characters on two accounts, sent the non-active character out of the instance after loading in) and I got an onscreen message that I couldn't progress through the tunnel without my partner. Didn't try to see if it would actually stop me or not (I just left and loaded in with both characters) but that's what I based my comments on.
I may give it a go again sometime, just to see if it does stop me from progressing through the instance.
And I didn't know that about the cogs there, it looked to me like they were too far apart to pull off hitting both.
It's a valid concern, but we used to have walk-in portals for everything up until T5. The T5 ones were removed because of a crashing glitch, not because of the content itself. The devs actually enjoyed watching player made challenges, to the point they really did develop FNL PvE Challenge because of it. It wouldn't cause any difference than what we have now and it would help the concept of carry that a lot of players get twitchy on, where a high level player goes into lower content and smashes it.
Spytle was the dev you are mentioning and they didn't adjust OC because of the exploit and/or glitches that came with it, but because of the punishing aspect of the mechanics pushing away players. It was an entire DLC that walled a very large portion of the community and drove them away, money included. So they fixed quite a few glaring issues. One being lowering the difficulty.
There were a few glitches/exploits that trivialized the content and rewarded a significant number of players free loot. And if I remember right, could only be reproduced on the PS. They actually made the content harder when they fixed them, especially for PC who didn't benefit from the glitches and exploits.
That would be cool to have. A lot of games do this. Where do X content with just 1.
The tunnel part is iffy, I believe you may be right about that. It was an early attempt to make sure both players are together and to allow the behind the scenes load. We know that the onset of hand of fate allowed for this to work more effectively and now we have the cut scene skips that just fade black.
As for the cogs, it's been a moment, but I remember you can hit one and just go to the other. I don't know if it was changed, but I remember finding this out because my partner was not coming forward.
Like you, I'll have to try that sometime, but the tunnel part might be a hard gate.
I get the attempt and all, it just has misinformation all over your response.
I actually witnessed back then a group of 7 league mates actually kick someone for just getting high enough to queuing in to gates back before OC.
I know it was because they were under geared, I saw with my own eyes them unlocking gates and prime, seen them walk in, watched as 1 by 1 they walk over, which was so funny being you didn't have to do that to inspect them and watched as she got the loading screen after queuing in.
Before any of the newer players say anything about how easy gates was, back then groups would still be inspecting and struggling in full T4 gear, raids would take over an hour to complete even with a full T4 group and that was FOS 1 and 2, groups needed a healer just to complete South Gotham Courthouse.
I say that because I don't disagree that it will certainly help some complete content carry or not.
I also see how it will further isolate others though and will only lead to more whining, but I don't know maybe not.(shrug)
Many mmo do this. FFXIV is one that comes to mind, which is one of the things I like about it. You can go back and get old gear for your other low level classes. In WoW, it is a way to get styles you may have missed.
You are right that from a practical standpoint it would be better than a portal. However, there is something Nostalgic about meeting by the portal to help your leaguemate boost their alts so we had more roles available at any given time.
Any update on this? It just seems weird to need 4 or 8 people for a boss far weaker than the player lol.
It's not weird at all when the game was designed that way on purpose. They never envisioned a day when players would have this much trouble finding others to run that content with (no crystal balls and such). Plus the original team were not thinking this far ahead.
As for updates, if they were ready to reveal anything they would announce it as per usual, likely even do a livestream for it an all.
you dont need an crystalball or anything to see were the game was going the last years more and more ppl quit here bcs they get simply overbored... why?? the guys that are still here run this stuff mosttimes with there leagues... well tell me if im wrong but if i dont see that i do stuff that only a hand of players be able to do isnt it very obviously that this makes the group of gamers smaller and smaller? and tbh with all this (wonderful) content and ignore ppls problems with this game dont even listin to us and if they do they say yh we do in the future ..honestly who knows if we ever get a usefull changes in this game again..or if they just be to busy with do the next timecapsule no one even wants to see anymore..the thing i see is if they not finally wake up and say the time is now the game is dead in 2 o 3 years!!
im just sick of this excuses we dont got time bla bla bla why they get dimensional ink (witch cares ONLY about this game) why they get an company like EG7 if NOTHING changes here
but let us comeback to the point here yes im 100% behind the idea that we should get a chance to run all raids and alerts sooner or later alone bcs im sick of waiting and waste time with begging for help from ppl that only care about themselfs
Queuing myself up on this waiting list/line whatever
blimey. I should probably point out that was a really bad day.
Heck yeah! Vilken Irongate im comin for your feat
I was speaking about when the game was originally being designed. The person I quoted stated that it didn't make sense that people need other players to play GROUP content with...a group. It was designed that way. You're trying to start a different conversation (which is legitimate, but clearly not the point I was making).
Secondly, if you want to be taken seriously, stop repeating that bs line about them "not listening". Just because they don't do what we tell them doesn't mean they don't listen....and you know this. If you insist on continuing with that obvious lie there's no point in addressing you.
By the way, the portal to Dox was closed because it was causing bugs in other areas, which is what was said.
I can see why people are skeptical about what we are told, but the walk-ins didn't end with dox, they closed it after SOT because of other issues.
There were 3:glitches to Dox that I was aware of and having a walk in or not really didn't matter for all 3 by the way.
Wouldn't adding a teleporter mod or 2 be a quick and dirty solution?
