To add to another low effort detail Daybreak tried to shortcut… … they spliced TWO different voice actors for Superboy in the cut scene. The first is very obviously Game Over Greggy (whatever his name is) from the Kandor DLC, and the new actor they chose to use. Just another hilariously low effort addition to this trash heap DLC. Honestly, what took so long for them to put this DLC together. We have a re skinned Bizarro and Brainiac, and a couple new styles. With literally every map being reused, it really is something to consider as to why this DLC took 8+ months to work on this.
Shazam aka ex-Captain Marvel (tm) also had two voice actors for JLD the old one and new one which I didn’t mind because in my head canon they were the voices of both Shazam and Billy Batson but yeah it is kinda funny when the game does this. I think in certain missions you can still hear the old VA of Harley too oh and Ivy? What I find baffling is the nonsensical plot this episode has which to be fair is part of the charm of DCUO. So in the Duo we investigate Area51 run by Cadmus cough cough Lex Luthor but Superboy and Bizzaro have been tortured by them so much they temporarily go nuts and you need to punch them hard enough to make them stop and see reason? Gotta love DCUO logic.
That's just basic comic book logic in action. When all else fails, solve your problems by hitting things hard enough. LOL
I loved when SJ would brag about her research into comic storylines to make compelling stories for the game… like., WHAT STORY??? They pretty much could just be like here’s some harder content with random characters and it would still be the absolute same
In the Belle Reve map for the Stabilizer Duo Solo, you can hear the second VA they managed to get for Harley Quinn playing in the background, yet if you also get her as one of the random Bosses (Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn) she has her original VA playing. She obviously has many VA's playing her throughout the game, but its quite amusing when they have different VA's in the same instance (as with the OP) Another such instance is the Pub Crawl Duo with Shazam. Has the newer VA in the cutscenes, but for combat has the original VA for combat.
I have a theory. This was not the Episode they intended to release at this time. This is an Episode which has been put together to train the new staff, using existing assets to make the job easier and quicker. I think the Episode that would have been released is the one we are getting in September (which is why they are able to bring the anticipated release date forward a month - the majority of the work is done, but it wasn't going to be releasable as it stood in the time frame available, due to staffing issues). It's just a theory, as I say, but it fits the facts as we know them.
Weren't you there when we had the open world map for the second time? They claimed it was to allow the new team to learn the DCUO code, but how much do you bet it's still the same for the latest arrivals?
Can you elaborate. I’ve been active here and playing since 2012, but what you’re referencing is a bit foggy
I believe he means when they reused the DC Map for the Dark Knights Open World - the last time they had some new Devs in employment.
I turned off the game sound when they switched to the new Harley VA in BoP. I didn't even know about different VAs for anything else since I've played with the sound off since then. I unfortunately have to turn the sound on to hear the voice prompts for 1 shot / skull mechanics in elite raids. Just hoping they don't put Harley in an elite raid ever again.
They’ve used the Washington DC map a total of 3 times in 2 and a halfway years. That’s kinda a record for using a map in this game that often but to be fair I’m gonna assume they had every intention to use it that much. I wouldn’t be surprised if next year they use it again for episode 49 or something. Wouldn’t shock me at all.
I also believe it's intentional- these things aren't slapped together with a few month's notice- there's too much coordination required between story writing, set and character designs & modeling, programming, VA recordings, etc... To me, revisiting sites makes sense for comic book story lines- a series of major events will occur within the same setting/locale and DC is a primary target of earth's adversaries in any entertainment medium- pretty much every megalomaniac has it on their check list. The community has a lot of valid criticism of the game at the moment, but I do not think reusing DC is one when the environmental design team has not been phoning it in at all- it's been visually clear our toons are visiting DC on different points on the timeline or alternate universes. Do I want every episode based in DC? Not at all! But when there's been significant alterations to a landscape to suit a new plot, and it's been several episodes since we were there last, I'm at least one player who doesn't mind revisiting a place when a new chapter unfolds there.
The Washington map threw me off a little as well. I don't hate it but it doesn't exactly scream "DC" to me to merit using it so much. I'd rather use or just section off a part of gotham or metropolis or expand central city.
