A question about Sorcery Summons

Heya guys, I was thinking and wondering and pondering and finally my curiosity couldn't take it anymore and so I am here to ask. I was wondering if a Summoner based Sorcery character does well as for dps? I've been itching to make a Summoner type character, but I can't find any recent information on if it's ok or not since everything I've found is about a year or so old and say that summons are complete and utter waste.

So, does a Sorcery Summoner dps work well or is it not worth doing?

It is impossible to dps as summoner alone. You need the destiny tree and even with that your dps won't touch light/celestial/mental/gadgets.

If you have your heart set on it level him up and hope to god the revamp is halfway decent.

Nah, I was just curious, since I love being a pet classes in other MMOs, I was gonna give it a go, but if it's not a worthwhile endeavor, then I'll probably try out Celestial once I'm able, though I hear that is rather tricky with the combo system, but meh, I like the idea of a light/dark type of power.

Pretty much all powersets require you to spend points in both trees in order to produce an effective loadout.

    Deathmike out.

I know that I'd need both trees, it's the aspect of being able to spec to the Fury pet along with whatever relevant skills and perhaps even that summon super power that I was wondering as to the effectiveness of. Basically it's me asking if having a pet as a Sorcerer worth it as a dpser or is it not and one just goes for all the non pet summoning spells with the except of the forced Guardian one to get skills from the Summon tree.

If being a petless sorcerer is the better dpsing option, then I'd not worry about it in favor of the Celestial light/dark mechanic since that is my next favorite thing after being a pet class. If having a pet in addition to powers works for sorcerer and lets sorcerer do worthwhile dps that does not hinder the group, then I'd prefer that route. Hopefully I explained better, if not, I dunno, it's hard for me to convey what I'm wanting without citing examples of classes that I love and hoping that someone knows what the heck I'm talking about. :(

I'm not an expert in Sorcery DPS by any means, but I've never found the pets to be very good for damage. They're too fragile and burn power rather quickly, though I suppose you could just resummon them. Either way, I'd say they aren't worth the power slot.

Alrighty, thanks for the info. ^_^

I'll just try out Celestial when I'm able to and give it a whirl. If it doesn't live up to my hopes, I guess I can go back to Quantum or Mental. :)

You could think of summoning a pet as a cheap way to get DoTs. So far, the only pet powers in Sorcery that are worth having are Watcher and the Grand Summoning supercharge. Guardian and Fury have currently stupid AI which cause them to sit idly while you attack on your own.

The problem with Watcher though is that it's also extra squishie. It attacks in close to medium range, which means it's susceptible to close-medium ranged AoEs. If that AoE hits hard, your Watcher would die very easily. This makes the Watcher good in lower tiered instances, but not so viable in later games.

For the dps you are correct, the fury doesn't work like its supposed to, but the OP wants to use a pet, the Guardian is better to use as dps, at least until they revamp sorcery.

For healing the watcher is great, but depends on the instance, if there are a ton of adds, watcher won't last long, but single boss fights it works great.

From what I've heard the watcher is actually the best pet for DPS, while the fury kinda just likes to float around a bit. Either way, the pets don't really do much damage. Until the revamp, I couldn't suggest using a DPS pet.

Sorcery is my main power and I'm almost always in healer role, so I know how useful the watcher is. There isn't an instance in the game where I wouldn't want it. Even if it gets one-shotted often, it's a cheap resummon and gets a full power bar again.

Sad when someone wants to be a Sorcery Summoner with a tree called summoning and the best pet that they can use is Robot Sidekick.

If you want the best dps pet to into the iconics tree and use the little floating sentry guy. It's free dps and he shields himself. I use him on my HL guy in t4 and he's awesome
