Sorry to be so annoying, but I've hit a new level of confusion after doing some more looking around and watching powers in action to get a better idea for my character. After asking another source for powers that would be better as ranged as opposed to melee, I was informed that melee greatly out damages range which now has me wondering if I should just accept being melee instead of range. The main hesitation I have is the new raid that was released since I keep getting so many mixed messages. Currently my two main issues in my journey in the game are 1. Melee vs. Range: I keep hearing the dps of melee outweighs the benefits of ranged so ranged is worst dps in the game. 2. Power Selection: After looking at more videos of powers in actual combat, I'm down to Earth and Mental between the two I've actually initially tried myself and Fire as the only power left I've yet to give a test run to. At the same time, I'd prefer to play a power that would best benefit from combat style, as in if I'm melee then I want a power that is best used in melee range and if I'm range, then I would want a power that best benefits from being ranged over melee. I dunno, I'm just so indecisive when it comes to being given such a big choice selection since I'm so used to games where you basically choose either range, melee, or magic and then the rest is basically pre-set so you are always rogue/archer, warrior, or mage.
Well, does Earth offer enough ranged attacks to keep it relatively equal? It's currently what's getting my interest the most since after having watched a dps guide video of it as well as a video of a person using it in a instance of some sort, it looks like the power I could enjoy the most, especially with the aftershock mechanic and whole being more reliant on power management than other powers from what it looked like. Mental's been fun, but I can't quite put my finger on what about it irks me that I keep shying away from it.
1) The reason why melee's benefits outweighs ranged benefits is because of the rock, paper, scissors style combat that this game uses. Interrupts (melee attacks) beat blockbreakers (ranged attacks), blockbreakers (ranged attacks) beat blocking, and blocking (which hardly anyone does except in PVP) beats interrupts. 2) Power selection is completely up to you and should be based off of your style of play that will benefit you most. If you want more of your damage coming from your loadout powers, go with a might based power, If you want most of your damage coming from weapon attacks, go with a precision based power set. If you like having and using pets to take some of the stress off of you, there is a 1 class with a pet per role (Sorcery for healing, Gadgets for trolling, and Earth for Tanking). Don't like pets and want to feel in control of everything?, then go with 1 of the other powers. The power is completely up to you. (note: i'm basing this entirely on the assumption you wanted to be a dpser, if you want to do one of the group roles you shouldn't be thinking about doing damage as your #1 priority)
