A little too much "maintenance"?

I've been on several times a week for a really long time, but have seen FAR more "world shutting down..." messages on days other than the usual Tuesdays. This past weekend started off like that on Saturday and again today (Monday).

As a member, could someone get to HR and hire coders who can fix whatever has prompted all this down time I pay for?

Same for me every time I try to login it says the connection to the world was lost

They're done every day at the same time. Sometimes they'll do unscheduled ones in case something is wrong.

You've probably just been lucky with your gaming schedule. It has been daily at roughly the same time for a long time now. It's always while I'm at work or during breakfast/ dog walking/ house cleaning times for me so I rarely even know it's a thing

The servers go down for a restart every single day, and it has been like this since the game launched as far as I can remember. There was a period where they experimented with doing it only two or three times a week, but I think we're back to daily restarts now.

This isn't WoW, DCUO has daily scheduled maintenance.

I play other MMOs that don't have daily kick outs. Should I just not bother complaining?

When they experimented with doing maintenance every other day it caused severe lag issues and was almost unplayable. The daily maintenance is necessary.

You can complain if you want, that's your right, but it's been always been like this (minus the mentioned time they experimented with doing it every other day). It sucks that it happens at the time that you're playing, but it's not done to aggravate people on purpose. People play at all times of the day and night, so there will never be a perfect time for it to be done, but I'm sure they do it at the time where the least amount of people are playing so that as small a number of people as possible are impacted.

The servers have been shutting down for maintenance every single day since beta. Instead of telling the dev team to hire people, maybe get some sleep instead of gaming until the early morning hours -- then you won't be bothered by the dev team doing their jobs correctly.

But they SHOULD hire staff, i mean thats 15 days of time lost a year. From a manaditory restart, not including patch day or unexpected issues.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe some people work second or third shifts and are up at early morning hours? That is their only time to play?

I'm not saying his complaint is valid or not. But this was a very ignorant thing to say.

What's "under the hood" is a game engine heavily modified to do something it was never really intended for (Unreal Engine 3 was not specifically made for MMOs, the original Dev crew made that happen, and it has been further modified over the years).

You've only now, after ten years, noticed that there's a daily shutdown and restart at the same time every single day?

They do maintenance at the same time every day. I believe 10:00 AM EST. Most days I’m either at work or in zoom classes at the time so I don’t even really run into the issue.

I’m pretty sure it’s just to restart the servers, and again they do it every single day. Find something else to do for 1 hour. You’ll be fine.

The reboot is every day....has been for a long long time. Not sure why it takes an hour, but servers do need maintenance and a reboot is a general part of most maintenance tasks.

First line of the IT handbook...."When in doubt...reboot". I do think they could move the time back some to 6AM CST vs 8AM, but it will always be at the wrong time for someone. The best they can do is play the averages, and I'd guess that the 8AM time was chosen due to work schedules at DBG and maybe based on normal user population at that time.

Let's be thankful it's not 8PM.
