I compiled a few active population statistics about DCUO.
Data is primarily for USPC Villain range CR106 to CR115 but some other populations were sampled.
I only queried the data for the last month.
There has been no DLC (Episode) for the last month although Munitions became available at the very start of the month.
This only counts characters who have logged in. It doesn't have how long they logged in for or how many
    instances they ran.
Alot of the numbers look similar for the different worlds, just different sizes.
EUPC Villain is about half as big as USPC Villain.
USPC Hero is about 4 times as big as USPC Villain.

The following paragraph is for USPC Villain only:
An average of 806 characters (CR106-116) log into USPC Villain every day out of around 2640 total characters in that CR range.
The median is 806, the mode is 841, max is 867, min is 719
I think this corresponds to 400 real live people based on my personal observations.
There isn't a lot of difference in population day to day. Even on a low day, it's close to 806 average.
Around 262 of these 806 characters log in every single day.
Around 307 of these 806 characters log in only once a week.
Around 1457 unique characters (CR106-116) log in every week.
For the entire month, 73 characters logged in every single day of the month.
Every day, on average 6 new characters move above cr105
    The vast majority of CR106-116 characters logging in are CR114 (30%), CR113 (23%), and CR112 (17%).

Every day around 786 new characters are created on USPC Villain.
About 17,300 new characters created every day in DCUO total.
About 4,240 new characters created every day in USPS Hero.

Of the top level characters, a very high percentage of them log in every day.
For CR114, an average of 257 of around 500 possible characters log in daily.
Having a CR greater than 113 is still rare, less than .5% of total population.

The higher the CR, the more active the character is.
For example, for USPCV, 74% of the CR115 characters log in daily.
For CR114, it drops to 57%.
For CR113, it drops to 43%.
For CR112, it drops to 35%.
For CR111, it drops to 23%.
At CR106, it's 13%. So an average of 27 characters log in daily out of around 207 CR106 characters on USPCV.

    At CR70, 4%
    At CR56, 3%
    At CR43, 2%
    At CR26, 2%
    At CR23, 2%
    At CR1, 0.7%

At CR43, it's 2% but maybe you say these are percentages of bigger numbers.
No, far more CR114s log in than CR43s even though their total character created numbers are close.

    Other servers match this:

    For USPS Hero CR115, it's 72%.
    For USPS Hero CR114, it's 57%.

    For EUPS Hero CR115, it's 72%
    For EUPS Hero CR114, it's 57%

    For USPC Hero CR115, it's 75%
    For USPC Hero CR114, it's 57%.

    For EUPC Hero CR115, it's 73%
    For EUPC Hero CR114, it's 58%.

Even though all the worlds are similar, there are a few differences. USPS Hero seems to have an abnormally large number of high CR players and it's growing and USPC Villain has a below average number and stays flat.

Wow thx for info. This just confirms my claims that less than 1% will be tier 7. People who have spent lots of time and money already tend to login more. New player retention is very low. Even with PS3 and its "issues" it's much more profitable than pc will ever be.

In conclusion- gu 47 will make these numbers more discouraging

    Interesting, and weird.

Main query; why Tuesday? Prominently figured as a more active day of the week.

Trend seems to be upwards although given the data range and recent munitions that could just be more people hitting 106 or above without more new people actually playing the game as a whole. Still, seems positive.

    EUPC villain here.
I can tell you: We are just a few hundred endgame players who log in regulary.

Crossplay could multiply that amount by 4.

Hmm, looks like the active population of this game is very, very low, even if you combine all servers its every low for an MMO from my experience of playing them. This game seems to find it extremely difficult to retain new players, and the lack of new players is hurting this game. Really bad.

Combination of too little content per tier, out of whack gear scaling quickly reducing the need for coop, and a lack of more MMO centric designs reducing the competitiveness of this MMO vs others. Well have to see if 47s changes came too late or just in time. Cross plat with xbone could be another boon.

I quit reading after these completely nonsense statements.

How did you compile these numbers? Did they add in historical log in information to the census API?

Wow the fact that that many players are still on PC amazes me.
However the end game population retention is low because of the lack of endgame content. Compared to other MMO's DCUO Episodes are on the same level as a regular MMO monthly patch.

The Data API was changed recently to provide a hash that will change when a character has been saved.

I saw that but how are you pulling it by date? Or are you doing daily snapshots of data then comparing them to the previous days to see where the hash has changed?

It appeared as though the hash was distinct per character when I looked at it so I am not sure how you gather date data from it.

For instance when I look at my hash it's 56f8f428f7ca8ff2165318a77d93466e. I don't see anything in there that denotes day of the week, date, etc. so the only thing I could think of was querying for all characters then snapshotting that to a table, then tomorrow doing it again comparing any changes. That seems horribly cumbersome when there are over 24 million characters.

Hopefully in July you can run another one of these to see how bad the new games hurt this one. WoW lost 3 million subscribers to 2 games and one of them was Destiny.

Another thing I noticed is during times of long maintenance like yesterday, I would assume the numbers would go way down. But this doesn't happen. In fact, yesterday's numbers are through the roof. Maybe people are just logging in to check their mark conversion? Probably. But other numbers went way up. USPC Villain got its first CR116 yesterday (congrats etMars). EUPC Hero got a CR116 yesterday (congrats Exquisite). The numbers of people at CR115 on USPCV only increased by 1 but many more logged in. The previous day 288 CR115's characters logged in. Yesterday it was a whopping 380. And it wasn't just USPCV. The CRs of quite a few people went up but percent logging in went way up. If the numbers go down to average tomorrow, I guess it was just people logging in to check marks conversion.

lol me and six toons were one of the ones to check login conversion and see GU madness .. seems like the villains freaked out more .... on USPS anyways.

    Wow...

    Crossplay needs to come sooner.

My villain logs in only once or twice a week if I feel like it, but I don't play her. Left her alone. It's sad.

The first jump was due to update47. The next jump was due to Halls of Power Part 2 episode. There seemed to be a problem with PS around the 15th leading to a one day dip for USPS Hero and villain.

Nice charts. I thought this data being charted was the reason the developers removed the date stamps from our toons.... Maybe with people able to check it other ways they'll finally give that information back to make it easier to track...

We have a bunch of people in the league that I would love to see when their last login was so we can make room on the roster if they're no longer playing.

Was I the only one that didn't read this; and went.. look at the pretty colors and charts?

Where did you get log-in data?
    That's not on census...
