A Harley Quinn animated series has been ordered for the upcoming DC digital service

A Harley Quinn animated series is in the works for DC’s digital direct-to-consumer service, according to Deadline. The service has ordered 26 half-hour episodes for the Harley Quinn animated series, which is targeting adults. The show comes to us from Warner Bros. Animation and Powerless producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker and Dean Lorey.

The DC digital service already has the high profile series Titans, starring Anna Diop, Lindsey Gort, Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly, as well as the revival of the animated series Young Justice. Harley Quinn has always been a fan favorite character, created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, first appearing in Batman: The Animated Series. She was played by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad, and she will reportedly be approached as the first choice to voice her in the Harley Quinn animated series.

The above pic is reportedly concept art and the series may end up with a different look when it finally airs. The Harley Quinn animated series will feature Poison Ivy and a number of familiar DC villains and heroes. The series will be written and executive produced by Halpern, Schumacker and Lorey and will focus on Harley after she finally ends things with her love/partner in crime the Joker. She attempts to become the “criminal Queenpin of Gotham City.”

The Harley Quinn animated series will be executive produced by Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series. DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year‘s Jennifer Coyle will produce with Halpern and Schumaker’s Ehsugadee Productions with Warner Bros. Animation.

So the pricing for the digital service has been released. An annual sub will cost $74.99 or you can go monthly at a cost of $7.99. No other payment plan is available at the moment. However, they are accepting pre orders which will grant 3 free additional months

The Next DC Universe Streaming Show Will Be Stargirl



Thought that Titans trailer was the only DC Universe show we’d be hearing about today? Think again: Geoff Johns just revealed one of his myriad upcoming projects is a show based around Justice Society of America superhero Stargirl.

Johns, who revealed the project today at San Diego Comic-Con, will write and executive produce the 13-episode series, following the adventures of Courtney Whitmore, the original Stargirl, as she inspires an unlikley group of young heroes to come together and form the original superhero team, the Justice Society of America.

This isn’t Stargirl’s first live-action rodeo, of course—an iteration of the character made an appearance in Legends of Tomorrow’s second season, played by Sarah Grey (and appeared on Smallville even before that.) But Johns said this will be a younger-skewing re-imagining of the character, meaning DC will most likely be looking for a new actress to play the hero. Additionally, the producer promised a lighter, PG-13 tone for Stargirl in comparison to what fans saw of Titans earlier today, describing the vibe he was aiming for as “Superman the Movie and Wonder Woman.” Sounds good to us!

We’ll bring you more on Stargirl and Johns’ other projects as we learn it.

So in some SWAMP THING news, actress, Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf, Gotham) has been cast as the female lead, Abby Arcane. In the series, Arcane will be a CDC doctor whose strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown where she faces emotional demons from her past, while a chance meeting with scientist Alec Holland takes her into a world of horror and the supernatural, and of the elemental creature known as Swamp Thing.
